Despite the Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag debacle, Ram Gopal Varma is still one of the most respected directors in Bollywood. But his bouts of unreasonable behaviour have irked some unit members of his latest film Go.
A member of the unit said on condition of anonymity: "Ram Gopal Varma used to arrive on the sets late. Then he would say that he wanted to discuss a few things with leading lady Nisha Kothari. The two would enter Nisha's make-up van and come out only after 2-3 hours. This happened for 4 to 5 consecutive days, resulting in a delay in shooting of the climax of the movie by four days."
The delay used to disturb everybody on the sets as all preparations had to be kept on hold for hours. Each delay would add to the previous day's delay and put more and more pressure on the cast and crew of the film, which has newcomer Gautam Gupta opposite Nisha. The source added: "Every time RGV used to disappear into Nisha's make-up van, things would get worse outside as Gautam and the rest of the unit members would be ready for the shot. Reportedly, Ramuji and Nisha's parleys haunted their shoot at Goa too. "Everybody had then dismissed it as a one-time incident which won't recur. But then it did, not once, but many times," the source lamented.
Nisha has been one of Ram Gopal Varma's favourite heroines. Rumours were also doing the rounds that Varma is picking and dropping Nisha home a bit too often. What's cooking between the mentor and his discovery?
Whirlpool had endorsed the star couple Kajol and Ajay Devgan for their wide rage of home appliances products. Kajol visited the company in New Delhi before the coming festive season in the current month to promote the Diwali offer given by the company to the customers.
So when he was busy shooting in Delhi for Rohit Shetty’s Sunday, he was so curious about the soaring temperature — a solid 48 degrees, that he tried to see if an egg would cook under the heat of the sun.
Actor Ajay Devgan is known for his pranks and creativity on the sets of a film. So when he was busy shooting in Delhi for Rohit Shetty’s Sunday, he was so curious about the soaring temperature — a solid 48 degrees, that he tried to see if an egg would cook under the heat of the sun.
“What Ajay had in his hand was half an omelette,” informs director Shetty.
“The entire cast and crew were in splits, when AD actually took an anda and set off to work.” Egg-ad!
Rumours are rife that Sharman Joshi lost "Dhamaal" as well as "Golmaal Returns" -- which now has Shreyas Talpade -- because of his high fee.
Sharman, however, denies asking for Rs.15 million.
"I wish I had the guts to ask for that kind of money. And I wish somebody would actually offer me that much. What I charge is nowhere near that amount. So I don't know who's spreading these rumours and for what purpose," Sharman told IANS.
"I didn't do 'Dhamaal' because I didn't like the role. As for 'Golmaal Returns' I'd have loved to do it. But my dates were clashing with another project. If money was an issue, how am I doing another film to be directed by Neeraj Vora for the same banner (Ashtvinayak)?"
The actor, who has accepted some non-comic roles, says he is not making a conscious effort to move away from the all-boys' comedy mould.
"The industry conveniently forgot that I started my career with a serious role as Shabana Azmi's son in Vinay Shukla's 'Godmother'. They latched on to my comic roles in N. Chandra's 'Style' and 'Excuse Me'. Not a problem because I enjoy comedy.
"My new release 'Dhol' had me working with Priyadarshan for the first time. I've learnt a lot about comic timing from him. My co-stars in 'Dhol' were friends. So there was no attempt at oneupmanship. I can't work in a tense competitive atmosphere. Of course, Tusshar Kapoor, Kunal Khemu, Rajpal Yadav and I were competitive in 'Dhol' when the camera was on. But we were happy in our individual space."
Talking about the serious roles he is doing, Sharman said: "In Anurag Basu's 'Life In A Metro', I was seriously appreciated. Then in 'Raqeeb', my efforts at a non-comic role went to waste.
"Now in two of my films, Farouq Kabeer's 'Allah Ke Bande' and Sourabh Narang's 'K11' (the title of this thriller refers to the seat number in a multiplex), I don't have a chuckle to waste.
I've yet to look my best in my films: Vidya Balan - October 12
She's back in town, hair styled short. Bhool Bhulaiyaa is her fifth release of the year. It’s been pretty hectic, living in and out of hotel suites and suitcases. Aah, so now there is trade talk that she’s cutting down on work and focusing on one project at a time. That has her gritting her teeth though. En route to a studio, Vidya Balan clears the air with Roshmila Bhattacharya. With Halla Bol scheduled for release soon, that'll be your sixth for the year.. so how's it been? Busy and fulfilling even though not all the films were women-oriented... or even had me in the female lead. That's a good thing actually because seeing me in six Parineetas would have been unbearable.
Is it true that you will now concentrate on one film at a time? Like Aamir Khan, huh? It's a huge compliment to be compared to Aamir but please, it's not true. I've only just started out. It would be foolish to cut down on work at this point.
Why the fleeting appearance in Eklavya and the two-three scene role in Guru? Even Salaam-e-Ishq was just one track amongst six while Halla Bol is reported to be Ajay's Devgan's film. I didn't want to miss out on the opportunities of working with Raj Kumar Santoshi, Mani Ratnam or my mentor Vidhu Vinod Chopra.
Well, Vinod Chopra's Eklavya is off to the Oscars on a wave of controversy. It's a matter of pride for any film to be in the contention for the Oscar. I hope we win. Mr Chopra's films have always been way ahead of the times, even Khamosh and Parinda. On the court case, I don't want to say anything much since the matter is sub judice, except that in a creative field, things are always very subjective. You can like Shah Rukh Khan and I could be an Aamir fan, but that doesn't make either of the Khans any lesser an actor. Despite the denials, the references to Rajnikant's Chandramukhi or the original Malayalam film Mani Chitra Thazhu still crop up in connection with Bhool Bhulaiyaa? Your performance is bound to be compared with the National Award-winning one by Shobhana in the Malayalam film. Meena Kumari was Bimal Roy's Parineeta, but no one dared to compare my performance with hers. It's the same with Shobhana. She's special, in a different league altogether. If I can come up with even 10 per cent of what she did in Mani Chitra Thazhu, it'll be an achievement. We've tried to make a good film, and despite what everyone says it's original.
What was more difficult-the dancing or the acting? The acting wasn't half as challenging as the dancing. Like any South Indian kid, I too had trained in classical dance, but then I lost touch. Priyan sir (director Priyadarshan) signed me on knowing this. I worked for a year with my guru Sharada whenever I could spare the time. Two weeks before we started shooting, I dedicated myself to dance. I rehearsed with (choreographer) Pony Verma and her assistant Purnima eight to 10 hours a day. I love the number Mere dholna.. though it required far more practice than Hare Ram Hare Krishna which is a groovy number you can move to easily. It was smart of Pritam not to make it too heavily classical. That would have alienated the lay person.
The film's music launch was different, but didn't its venue - the House of Horrors – give you the shivers? (Laughs) It was a cool idea and I was too busy to be scared. The house we shot in also had a certain eerie ambience, like any heritage structure. But even there, I didn't encounter any ghosts.
Did Akshay Kumar play any pranks during this shoot too? He wasn't as playful as he was during Heyy Babyy!.. the mood was different.

Kumar Mangat and Rohit Shetty have yet again teamed up to start with their new venture, which is based on the Hindi play ‘Uncle Samjha Karo’. This will be an out and out comedy film titled Pocket Money and will be directed by Rohit Shetty.
Producer Kumar Mangat who is excited about this new venture says, “It is a thought which will take six to seven months to shape up in to a story. Interestingly, this play has got its share of inspiration from Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s classic comedy Chupke Chupke.” He also adds, “Pocket Money is an entertainment comedy which revolves around two friends and an old man.”
Without revealing many details, Rohit Shetty says, “Kumar Mangat has the rights of the play; we are on the verge of scripting.”
On asking how different will the film Pocket Money be from the play, Mangat says, “The film will differ from its screenplay and characterization.” He further adds, “As soon as we finalize the script, we will decide upon the star cast.” Pocket Money is expected to go on the floors by next August-September.
The shooting of Mangat and Rohit Shetty’s other project, Sunday, is completed and the film is expected to release in the month of January next year. The film is a comic thriller. Kumar Mangat is particularly excited about his forthcoming flick, No Smoking that is releasing on October 26.
Mangat’s film, Haale-E- Dil is on the verge of completion with three songs pending, which will be shot in Austria. It stars Shekhar Suman’s son Adhyayan and Mangat’s daughter Amita and is directed by Anil Devgan.
Is top director Selvaraghavan on a signing spree? "Yes" seems to be the answer, as he has just now started the shoot of his Karthi- Reema-Andrea starrer Aayirathil Oruvan, in Chalakudy forests in Kerala.
Next on the pipeline is his Hindi remake of 7G, Rainbow Colony, starring Vivek Oberoi, and being produced by Radaan Mediaworks in association with UTV. Recently Vivek Oberoi said in an interview that – "I'm bowled over by Selva's style of film making. I will start work on this Tamil remake in the first week of December."
At the same time a Chennai newspaper has reported that Selva has signed a new Hindi film, which would be a remake of his flop Tamil film Pudhupettai, with Ajay Devgan as the hero! Nothing is revealed about who the producer or when the film will start rolling!
Meanwhile Ramesh Babu ( Producer of Vijay's Pokkiri) of Kanakaratna movies has confirmed that he has signed up Selvaraghavan to do his next film in Tamil, which will have Surya and Trisha in the lead ! The film is expected to start rolling immediately after Surya completes Gautham Menon's Vaaranum Aayiram, sometime in February 2008!
So what does one make of all these happenings? How can Selva, a creative and careful director who takes time over his projects, and does only one film at a time do four films simultaneously? Now the big question being asked in the trade- Is Selva going to be a remote control director, doing a Tamil and Hindi film at the same time?
Da ja angeblich "U Me Aur Hum" ein "Abklatsch" von "Notebook" sein soll, poste ich diese News mal hier! Allerdings bestreitet Ajay es!

Rajkumar Santoshi all set to make a grand comeback - October 18
Emperor Ashoka as a historical figure towers above many of its compatriots but the celluloid story, which was loosely based on his life and times, starring Shah Rukh Khan didn't succeed back in 2001.
Inspite of the earlier film’s box office debacle, director Rajkumar Santoshi is all set to retell the story of Ashoka with a lavish budget of Rs 30 to 40 crore and he is confident that his film will work.
“Everyone who heard the narration of the film was excited. I have watched the last film based on Ashoka, it was very well shot and Shah Rukh did a good job. But my film begins where the last film ended. My film begins after the Kalinga war,” Santoshi says.
The veteran filmmaker's excitement is evident because his last attempt at a historical, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, though a box office dud, won critical acclaim.
But after last year's forgettable Amitabh Bachchan starrer Family, he lied low for a while and his shelved films came back to haunt him as well.
“Saamna got into too much controversy so I decided to shelve it. As for Family, Amitji's health was not good so we couldn't market the film and it failed. So my films weren't seen for sometime. Now I am back with Halla Bol,” says Santoshi.
The director’s upcoming flick Halla Bol starring Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan holds promise. Apart from that, the filmmaker is busy with not just Ashok the Great, but also a romantic comedy starring Shahid Kapoor.
So, here's hoping he does work the Ghayal or Khakee magic once again.
