Rajkumar Santoshi is infamous for announcing big projects and then shelving them. But this time however, things seem to be flowing in the reverse order since Santoshi is planning to revive a shelved project of his. The film in question is the ambitious musical London Dreams that Santoshi had launched a couple of years back starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in lead roles.
However, soon after a few scenes were shot on Salman Khan in the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the film was shelved due to some financial problems between the producer and the director.
Sources inform that Eros International had acquired the film for a record price of Rs 40 crores. On learning this Santoshi, who was signed as a director for a fee of Rs 3.5 crores, raised his remuneration to Rs 8 crores. But reportedly producer Param Jeet Singh met with a financial crisis and couldn’t match Santoshi’s price. So the film got shelved.
Now sources inform that Singh is keen to revive the project. Reportedly the producer even met lead actor Salman Khan at his Panvel farmhouse and expressed his desire to revive London Dreams . He also informed Salman that he had to sell his two bungalows to repay his financers. Salman who is known for his kind nature, immediately called Rajkumar Santoshi to revive the project. Now it is believed that Salman is willing to fund for London Dreams as the producer is going through financial problems.
Meanwhile Santoshi who was supposed to make Ashoka with Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu seems to be facing problems with respect to that project since his deal with PVR Pictures has apparently fallen through. Now Santoshi is looking out for a new producer to back him. He recently shelved one more film.
Since there is no film in Santoshi’s hand presently, sources claims that he may revive London Dreams soon and might start shooting sometime this year. While Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan are still the choice for the lead roles, there might be changes in the remaining star cast as the makers have to check with the availability of the stars.
London Dreams is about a rock band in England. Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan were supposed to play childhood friends in the movie who are musicians. The film is supposedly loosely inspired from the Hollywood musical Amadeus . Just last year Suneel Darshan too remade Amadeus as Shakalaka Boom Boom starring Bobby Deol and Upen Patel as contending musicians.
It took the launch of a film to finally put an end to the rumours about problems between Ajay Devgan-Kumar Mangat and Karan Johar.
The Kaal producer took time off from the shoot of his television show Say Shava Shava to give the mahurat clap for Mangat's next project on Tuesday morning.
Toplining Ajay Devgan and Kajol, with cartoon characters, Toonpur ka Super Hero is an animated fantasy .
"I just had to call Karan and he readily agreed to give the mahurat clap for the film. We've always been amicable. I hope this puts an end to all the speculations about us," asserts Mangat.
Kireet Khurana, who has over 300 ad films to his credit, makes his directorial debut with Toonpur ka Super Hero, where real characters venture into an animated world, and get caught up in a war of toons.
Kid stuff Dismissing comparisons with the Hollywood blockbuster Who Framed Roger Rabit, Devgan states, "This is a different story Of course, kids are our primary audience."
Kajol reveals that she has been watching shows on Disney channel, Cartoon Network and Pogo for a while now.
"I prefer watching cartoon shows. They are a lot more fun," she enthuses. On being quizzed when did she develop interest in kiddie stuff, she laughs, "Jabse maine beti paida ki."
Although their daughter Nysa isn't really clued into their proj ect, the Devgans plan to feed her with details and take her on the shoots once they commence.
Inki awaaz suno Like most Hollywood animated movies, Toonpur ka Super Hero will also have voiceovers by our Hindi movie stars. Mangat says, "We'll be negotiating with top stars to lend their voices for the animated characters. It's too early to reveal names right now."
The film's approximate budget is Rs 40 crore.
"The release date will be finalised after the animation work is complete. The work began eight months ago. This is a first-of-its-kind movie in India. We intend to match international standards," concludes Mangat.
It's now official. Tamil superstar Rajnikant 's superhit film, Chandramukhi is being remade in Hindi.
Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan will play the role of the psychiatrist Rajni did in the Tamil original.
Kajol will essay Jyothika 's role while her husband Ajay Devgan will enact her husband's role on the reel too - a role that Prabhu did in the Tamil version.
The film, shooting for which will start as soon as Big B is back in operation, will be directed by P. Vasu, who wielded the megaphone in ‘Chandramukhi’.
The producers' first choice for the heroine's role was Aishwarya Rai . But since Ash is too busy to give dates, Kajol got the nod for the film, says the buzz.
The Kollywood grapevine has it that the plan is to release the movie by the end of the year.
