Zitat von BiggestAJDFan!B.O. update: Slow start for 'Halla Bol', 'Anthony'
By Taran Adarsh, January 12, 2008 - 08:22 IST The flow of movies have commenced from this Friday onwards. Rajkumar Santoshi’s HALLA BOL and E. Niwas’ MY NAME IS ANTHONY GONSALVES were expected to bring in the audiences, but the two movies didn’t find many takers on Day 1.
While HALLA BOL fetched a 30% - 35% start, the fate of ANTHONY GONSALVES was worse, with the film opening to 8% to 10% numbers. HALLA BOL is expected to show a rise [the reports are positive], so the weekend is very crucial.

Ich sagte ja nicht die endgültigen Zahlen , sondern die "ersten" ;-)
Zitat von FoxyXThe year started badly with both Halla Bol and My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves faring poorly at the box office.
In Halla Bol, Rajkumar Santoshi stuck to his old formula of masses joining forces with a single honest man taking on mighty villains like in his earlier film Damini. But such stories have been told dime a dozen since and people don't care for issue-based films any more.
E Niwas' My Name Is Anthony Gonsalves was a non-starter.
Note: Films are ranked according to their release dates. The thumbs ups and downs reflect rediff's views.
Halla Bol Cast: Ajay Devgan, Pankaj Kapur, Vidya Balan. Director: Rajkumar Santoshi. Shows Bollywood interestingly, Pankaj Kapur. Too preachy, too lengthy.
Zitat von FoxyXThe much touted Bollywood flick Halla Bol has sensationally flopped at the UK Box Office.
Ajay Devgan and Vidya Balan did not manage to pull in the audiences to the theatres over the weekend as this Raj Kumar Santoshi melodrama made only $71,162. Showing on 21 screens it managed to achieve a per screen average of $3,389. Distributors Tip Top would have hoped for a better entry in the charts than the number 18 it got.
Aamir Khan’s Taare Zameen Par has finally done one better than its rival, they Akshay Kumar multi-starrer Welcome. The dyslexia flick dropped only 4 places in the charts, from 19 to 23. While, Welcome and its comedy frolics went down a massive 8 places, from 16 to 24. Taare Zameen Par’s total collections in the UK now stand at $563,332, but Welcome is still 2008’s numero-uno Bollywood flick so far… with total collections of $1,732,976. The weekend per screen average of Taare Zameen Par was $2,103 (showing on 17 screens) and Welcome’s was $1,223 (showing on 29 screens).
Since its release, the Indian Films-Studio 18 released “Welcome” has only moved from strength to strength. In the 2007 round-up in the UK, where the film has done the most business in the overseas market, “Welcome” ranks at No.2 after “Om Shanti Om”. “Namaste London”, “Partner” and “Salaam-e-Ishq” feature at No.3, 4 and 5 respectively. It follows that “Welcome” is also the biggest of the four Akshay Kumar releases of 2007, and by the end of its fifth weekend, it will have created yet another record by emerging as the biggest UK hit ever of Akshay Kumar’s movie career! “Welcome” has grossed nearly $1.8 million in the UK to date.
The only other Bollywood film in the UK Box Office chart is Aaja Nachle, still being screened in theatres even in its 7th weekend. Its total collections are now $878,198.

The new release, HALLA BOL, has failed to create any impact in U.K. The opening weekend numbers reiterate yet again that hard-hitting/serious themes are an absolute no-no in this territory. Meanwhile, WELCOME has emerged the second biggest grosser of 2007 in U.K., after OM SHANTI OM. At the rate it’s progressing, it will soon emerge the highest-ever grosser of Akshay Kumar in U.K.

Even after the release of two movies in the last week, the box office is not showing any change in results except for the move Taare Zameen Par that is constantly picking up at the box office. The movies last week released was Halla Bol and My Name is Anthony Gonsalves.
The attraction of the movie Halla Bol has been Ajay Devgan and the movie is not promoted as such in the major cities of India. The class of audience who went for the movie, were the ones who watched Gangajal and Omkara. The week did not have holidays in the schools and colleges and the major hindi speaking Northern India is in the grasp of cold that makes it difficult for people to go to theatres.
The results are that the movies Halla Bol could not attract huge crowds. The movie is getting promoted by the word of mouth. Halla Bol got only about 30-40 % openings in the initial week .There are chances that the coming weeks prove better than the initial week.
The other movie My Name is Anthony Gonsalves did not have a known face to attract and the movie is not a crowd puller. The last week gave a bad opening for both the movies and till now the picture is not clear about the two movies. My Name is Anthony Gonsalves got 15-20 % of opening in the initial week of release.
The pervious week movie that got promoted through the audiences itself, Taare Zameen Par is getting to be one of the biggest hits of the year. The movie has been made tax free in many states and this has also encouraged the business of the movie. The comedy movie Welcome is already declared a hit by the trade pundits and a remake of the movie is also getting planned.
The animation movie Return of Hanuman could not prove to be as attractive as the original Hanuman movie and the animation sequel is not successful which has made the movie makers to think twice to get into making an animation movie. Overall the week was not as such encouraging for the new releases.
