The film story will be a blend of modern Indian politics with chapters from Mahabharat. The film will also include elements from Rajiv Gandhi's life. The characters in the film will be based on Mahabharat characters. Ajay Devgan will be cast as modern day Karna, Nana Patekar will play the Krishna. Ranbir Kapoor plays Rajiv Gandhi in the film.
Jha is currently looking at three top young international actresses to play Ranbir’s companion. "The heroine won’t be a non-descript model or TV actress posing as a big star for a Bollywood film. The actress opposite Ranbir will be a top-of-the-line name." Katrina Kaif mastered Hindi for her role in the film and delivered full length dialogues in Hindi. In the film she'll go from a young student to a married woman, and beyond.
"As for my character, she's a light-hearted character to begin with. Later she grows serious and ambitious. If it works, it can do a lot for my career," says Katrina.
Viviek Oberoi was offered a role in the film but opted out because the dates were clashing with Rensil D`Silva's Next.
