Ajay Devgan and others work for free to help friend, Dinesh Patel Tuesday, March 3, 2009 23:59 IST
It's not news that Anees Bazmi's film titled Benaam (now called Naam starring Ajay Devgan, Sameera Reddy and Bhumika Chawla) has been lying on the shelves for quite a few years. But little do people know that the movie has been shot completely and that producer, Dinesh Patel, has no money left for the post-production.
In the past, Patel had given a break to actor Ajay Devgan in Phool Aur Kaante. So, in order to help the producer who had once-upon-a-time given him a break, Ajay Devgan requested good friend, Anees Bazmi to come to Dinesh's rescue, and now, after so many years after the movie has been shot, the film is being worked on once again. And for free!
Director Anees Bazmi confirmed the news saying, "It's true that the technicians including the dubbing, background music and the sound effects guys, assistants, Ajay Devgan and I are working without being paid money because the producer doesn't have money. We'll get it later on when the movie releases." Bazmi also reveals, "We got 12% of the remuneration that we were supposed to get when we agreed to work on this movie. But now, we just want the movie to be released because so much effort has been put into this."
Patel says, "Yes, it's true that Ajay, Aneez, all the artistes and the technicians are working for free for me. When the film releases, I'll pay them."
People are making an extra effort to complete the film and for that, they are also getting rid of anything that's obviously negative. Apparently, the film's name has been changed from Benaam to Naam because, "Lots of people thought Benaam is a very negative title, so I suggested we remove the 'Be' from the title. But I don't know what difference it makes because in spite of having a negative title, my movie No Entry still did well," ends Bazmi.
Will travel to and from Goa via a chopper for shoot
Sanjay Dutt seems to be getting special treatment from his producers, especially after his entry into politics.
For Rohit Shetty's untitled next for Devgan Productions, which goes on floors March 10 onwards, Dutt will be given a helicopter to fly him in and out of Goa.
A source from the unit reveals, "The producers have hired a helicopter for Mr Dutt's Goa schedule. Since Sanju is busy with his election campaigning and has to tour about to various places in India, it will become difficult for the team to shoot.
Thus for the smooth operation of the shoot and to save time, Sanjay Dutt will be flying in and out of Goa using the private helicopter hired for the schedule.
They have a one-month schedule in Goa and don't want to waste much time since there are a lot of joint scenes of other actors with Sanju."
The source continues, "The extras and junior artists who only have few days of shooting are also asked to give their dates for the entire month.
This is because they can adjust their dates according to Dutt's availability.
The producers understand Sanjay's importance in the election campaigning and have decided to co-operate.
The cast is being put up in Taj Village in Goa."
Producer Kumar Mangat denies it. He says, "We haven't hired any helicopter and haven't got any instructions for the same."
The movie also stars Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse.

It seems like Bollywood is still desperate for fresh story ideas and for the very few unique ones that exist many filmmakers are trying their best to make their film before anyone else does on it. According to ilovebolly. com, a new mega controversy is brewing in Bollywood nowadays in regards to one of Marathi theatre’s one of most all time successful plays called All The Best.
The success of the play got many Bollywood producers lining up for its Hindi film remake rights. While Deepak Tijori lifted the basic theme of the play and made a pathetic comedy called Tom, Dick and Harry (2006), presently there are three more Bollywood’s biggest producers who are making a film on the same subject of three friends one of whom is blind, one deaf and one dumb.
Golmaal series maker Rohit Shetty’s forthcoming venture produced by Ajay Devgan having Sanjay Dutt and Fardeen Khan in the lead along with Devgan himself is also based on the same play. But the makers are keeping the story idea hush hush and denying that the film is based on the same subject. Producer Sangeeta Ahir (Apne) was earlier planning a film on the same lines which was to be directed by Mahesh Manjrekar but he backed off at the last minute. Sangeeta then produced the film in Tamil, Telugu and Kannada with Prabhu Deva and his two brothers and all three versions turned out super hits.
Yet another producer Deepak (Vaastav) the brother of underworld don Chota Rajan was learnt to have acquired the remake rights of the play and had approached Hrithik and Shah Rukh for the film but it never got made. But he still has the rights of the film. Now ironically, Producer Boney Kapoor has also acquired the rights and is planning a film on the same lines. To add more confusion the Khan brothers Salman, Sohail and Arbaaz too are keen on making a film on this subject!
When all these films get simultaneously on floors one wonders what it would lead to? Does anyone of them not remember the Bhagat Singh medley when four Bhagat Singh themed films released on the same date and flopped badly. -Sampurn Media

Films take a backseat as Sanjay Dutt will stay in Lucknow for 45 days due to the forthcoming elections
Even as Sanjay Dutt has lost oodles of weight to look every inch the heartthrob we’ve known over the years, he will now have to give more time to his political career, provided the courts clear him to contest the elections.
Sanjay is quite confident that the courts will give him the required go-ahead.
Sources close to the actor say he has already chalked out a coherent and clear-cut election campaign according to which he will be stationed in Lucknow for 45 days. That leaves him absolutely no time for his film assignments, at least for now.
In fact, Sanjay’s production house volunteered to opt out of Ajay Devgan’s comedy All The Best and offered to rope in Anil Kapoor instead.
“But Ajay insisted on Sanjay. He said Sanjay would bring something special to the project,” says a source. “So Sanjay has now allotted dates to Ajay Devgan from May 1.
He’s now quickly wrapping up his work in Mumbai and will be in Lucknow from March 15 to the end of April. He’ll return to Mumbai only after elections.”
Meanwhile, wife Manyata will shuttle between Mumbai and Lucknow during the time when Sanjay will be campaigning and contesting elections.
The couple is being allotted a house in Lucknow, which Manyata will be stocking up with all the healthy food especially for Sanjay.
And there will be no alcohol since Sanjay has stopped drinking.
“From the time Sanjay stopped drinking, his energy level has increased. Now, he is confident of simultaneously managing politics and cinema without skipping a beat,” adds the source.
Once Upon a Time in Mumbai could possibly be Kangana Ranaut’s magnum opus as she is slated to star as the veteran actress Madhubala who was also Haji Mastan’s love interest. The film deals with the real story of the underworld don of the 1960’s, Haji Mastan.
Once Upon a Time in Mumbai will be produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji films and directed by Milan Luthria. Before zeroing in on Kangana, Luthria had also considered Katrina Kaif and Priyanka Chopra for the role. Our source said, “Kangana’s selection is a good thing as although Ajay Devgan and Emraan Hashmi were on board, the producers couldn’t shoot for a long time because Luthria was unable to select an actress. Only recently did Luthria and Ekta settle on Kangana.” Now, with cast in place, the film is scheduled to go on floors in April and will be shot across Mumbai.
Although Bollywood has made films on Haji Mastan before, like Deewar, this film will concentrate on the romantic angle between Haji Mastan and Madhubala. Ajay Devgan will play Haji Mastan and Emraan Hashmi will play the young Dawood.
übersetzt von heike925/bollywoodsbest: Kangana Ranaut wird Madhubala in Once Upon a Time in Mumbai spielen.
Actress Kangana Ranaut has been having a good year. Her film Raaz The Mystery Continues, did fairly well at the box office and she has already been at the receiving end of praise for her work in Fashion. Well the actress now has signed up a film with Ajay Devgan. The actress has signed up for Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, which is being produced by Balaji Motion Pictures. The film explores the growth of underworld in the city, in the 70s and the 80s. Ajay Devgan will be playing the lead. According to sources, his character in the film is based on the notorious smuggler Haji Mastaan, who was the then don of the underworld in the city. Kangana is romantically cast opposite him. Beisdes these two, the film will also star Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai. The shooting is expected to start in May. Most of the film will be shot in the city itself, except for a few sequences which will be shot in Dubai and Bangkok. Incidentally, Kangana is also cast opposite Hrithik Roshan in Kites. She will also be seen in Samir Karnik's Roshan opposite Bobby Deol.
MUMBAI: Producer - director Vipul Shah made headlines when his film, London Dreams was sold to Indian Films (Studio 18) for Rs 1.20 billion (Rs 120 crores). However, as was first reported by Businessofcinema.com in November last year, the two concerned parties mutually decided to re-evaluate the deal once the movie's shoot was complete.
The shooting for the film has now been wrapped. “We have completed the shooting for London Dreams. It was completed in two big schedules and as earlier announced, the release date for the film is 14 August,” Shah told Businessofcinema.com.
On being queried whether a distribution deal had been inked, Shah informed, “We will evaluate all the offers from 1 April, after the start of the new financial year.”
London Dreams stars Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in key roles. The female lead is being played by Asin. Asin said, “I have had a dream run in Bollywood. My first film with Aamir and my next release is with Salman. After the Filmfare Award, I am just so excited about my roles and I promise to do a great job.”
London Dreams had its first schedule in London, in August last year. Some portions with Salman were also filmed in Paris. Post the 40 day schedule, Shah shot in Punjab in January. The film is about the musical journey of an aspiring Punjabi boy who makes it to the underground music scene in London.
Meet B'wood biggies who've gone from love to hate to love
Ajay Devgan and David Dhawan
This one is downright funny if you picturise this. Industry insiders and spot boys will tell you of a time in the late '90s when an angry Ajay Devgan chased David Dhawan around the studio floors for reasons unknown.
The two were shooting for their respective films when something went drastically wrong and Devgan was out to get the roly-poly director's blood. Poor David ran to save his life and managed to save his skin.
For the longest time David Dhawan stayed away from all events that Ajay Devgan was to attend.
Just as mysteriously, things got resolved and Devgan starred opposite Aishwarya Rai in the filmmaker's Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin.
To this day, both the men refuse to let anyone in on the reason behind the infamous chase.
No points for guessing, this Vipul Shah directorial is a copy of a Hollywood hit
Juicy Mausi is at it again. The other day she heard someone talking about Vipul Shah's latest London Dreams and Mausi was all ears. Buzz is that this Salman-Asin starrer is a remake of an old Hollywood hit Amadeus. The film is based loosely on the lives of two musicians Wolfang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri who lived in Austria in the later half of the 18th century.
Vipul has changed the setting a bit. Here, Salman and Ajay hail from Punjab and later go to London to pursue their dreams.
The film sees Salman as Mozart, while Ajay Devgan plays Salieri. The film starts with Ajay narrating the story of their friendship and jealousy.
His role will be as long as Ajay Devgan’s in 'Once Upon A Time In Mumbai'. So will his share of publicity footage.
Emraan Hashmi is flying high and how. The success of solo-hero starrers, Jannat (2008) and Raaz - The Mystery Continues (2009), has ensured Emraan such a standing in the film industry that his demands are met, despite the presence of an established star. For Ekta Kapoor’s Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, where he plays the role of the young don Dawood Ibrahim, he has laid down a condition in his contract, that he should be given as lengthy a role and equal publicity as his co-star Ajay Devgan, who plays Haji Mastan in the film. A source close to the production house said, “Emraan’s uncles, Mahesh and Mukesh Bhatt, were not in favour of him doing Ekta’s film as they feared that he might end up playing second fiddle to an established actor like Ajay Devgan. However, Emraan loved the script and was very confident about his role. The film’s story revolves around how Haji Mastan passes the mantle to a young and emerging don Dawood. Nevertheless, in order to ensure that everything that was promised to him will be delivered, he laid down a condition in the contract saying that he should be given equal prominence as Ajay Devgan in terms of footage and publicity.”
Confirming the news about the contract, Emraan Hashmi says, “Well, it’s true. The film is based on the shift of power from Ajay Devgan to me. Obviously, I don’t do films for the love of anyone or to be just another name in the credits. It is the central character besides Ajay’s character in the film.”
Mumbai, March 10: Looks like the only thing original about Salman Khan is his raw rage and bad boy antics! The actor who has acted in a series of desi dud remakes of Hollywood films like ‘God Tussi Great Ho’ which was a rip off from ‘Bruce Almighty’, will now be seen in remake of yet another Hollywood classic.
The actor’s forthcoming film ‘London Dreams’, that has been kept under wraps for long with neither the actors nor the directors willing to divulge about the film, is touted to be the remake of Hollywood flick ‘Amadeus’.
Grapevine has it that the film that stars Salman, Ajay and Asin in lead roles in an-out-an- out copy of ‘Amadeus’. Based on the lives of 2 musicians, Wolfang Amadeus Mozart and Antonio Salieri, the Hollywood hit is set against the 18th century.
What’s interesting is Salman plays the role of music maestro Mozart while Ajay essays the role of Salieri. The film begins with Ajay narrating the story of their friendship that lived long enough to be turned into bitter rivalry.
Adding the Indian touch, Vipul has changed the background of the film with Salman and Ajay hailing from Punjab. They later go to London to realise their dreams.
Well, Salman playing Mozart is sure to make the music prodigy turn in his grave.
Kangana Ranaut can sure be optimistic towards the box office result of Hrithik Roshan’s latest movie ‘Kites’. There is a buzz doing the rounds that this flick is going to be one of the biggest blockbusters to come out of Bollywood, and is going to take Hrithik to greater heights.
Now to make this year brighter for Kangana, one more role with a great scope to perform has come knocking. Kangana seems to have signed the dotted line to be the female lead for the gangster movie ‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbai’ that will be directed by Milan Luthria. She will be playing the love interest of Ajay Devgan in this flick.
Although many movies deriving their concepts from the underworld stories have come up before, this new flick is going to be unique say the folks who are involved with this project. The novelty will lie in the depiction of growth of the underworld in Mumbai during the 1970’s and 80’s.
This is one area that has never been touched before by Bollywood.
Reports indicate that Ajay Devgan’s role is based on the life of the biggest smuggler of Mumbai of that time- Haji Mastaan. Emraan Hashmi’s will also be seen in this film donning the role of the then young Dawood Ibrahim. Prachi Desai who shot to fame in big screen with her performance in ‘Rock On’ will also be seen portraying an important character in this flick.
‘Once Upon a Time In Mumbai’ is to be produced by Balaji Motion Pictures and will hit the floors in May.
John and Ajay are involved in a serious tug of war to get hold of director Milan Luthria of late.
While Milan was always to direct Ajay Devgan-Ekta Kapoor's film Once Upon a Time in Mumbai first, few budgeting issues made Milan proceed with John's home production.
However to John's disappointment the director has now solved all possible budgeting issues with Once Upon a Time... and has again given preference to Ajay's film!
After Taxi No. 9211 John was keen to get the meter moving. But sadly, Ajay Devgan is now saying Horn not ok please!
It looks like the new Vipul Shah-Akshay Kumar film that would also have Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in the lead won't be able to get its chosen title "Action Replay" that easily, as it is the property of his arch-rival.
Remember the war of words, and worse, when director Shah and producer Gaurang Doshi parted ways after "Aankhen"? The two swore (and cursed) and promised the world they'd never work with each other - and kept their word.
Akshay Kumar had also parted bitterly with Doshi and went on to form a hugely fruitful alliance with Shah.
Since the film is based on the play of that name, Shah wants to call his film by the title "Action Replay" and nothing else. However it seems unlikely that he'll get the title since it's now Doshi's property.
"And Doshi," said a bemused former associate of the producer-director duo, "would prefer to sell the title to the devil than to Shah. There's no way Shah would get that title out of Doshi".
Shah has little choice but to opt for another title.
Shah said: "The title suits my film perfectly. But I haven't really thought of how to get it. I'm busy with the last schedule of 'London Dreams'. I'll sit down to figure this problem only after I finish 'London Dreams'."
Interestingly, Shah had wanted to name his debut film "All The Best", the title of the play that the film was based on. However he was unable to get the title and opted for "Aankhen".
Even more interestingly, producer Ajay Devgan and director Rohit Shetty want to name their new Dutt-Devgan comedy "All The Best". Apparently they've secured the title after much pursuit and persuasion of the producer who had obtained the title.
ALL THE BEST nennen möchten.
After saying good bye to the liquor bottle forever and a new found enthusiasm to be in good health, Sanjay Dutt is preparing for a new battle. The actor is gearing up for the coming elections where he is in the fray as a candidate from Lucknow representing the Samjadwadi Party.
Come March 15 the actor-politician will be busy stationed and rallying in Lucknow for the various election campaigns and related activities that have been organized till the end of April. Due to this Sanju is frantic to complete his work schedule in Mumbai ASAP. Assuming that he will not be able to finish off the shooting for the film ‘All The Best’ in time, Sanjay even recommended Anil Kapoor to take his place.
The reason for this was because the dates allotted by the star for the film was clashing with the days during which he will be busy campaigning in Lucknow. But Ajay Devgan, the producer ‘All The Best’ did not want a no from Sanjay as far as this film was concerned. Without another option, Sanjay agreed and has reportedly allotted fresh dates starting from May.
So will this new role of a full-fledged politician fit our Munnabhai? Sanjay is quite optimistic that he will get a favourable verdict.
