Ajay Devgan, who just turned 40, is set to wield the megaphone for his second directorial venture and says it won't star his actress wife Kajol.
"It will be a dark comic thriller. And no, there will be no Kajol in it. For those who want to see us together, there's the animation film 'Toonpur Ka Superhero'," Ajay, who celebrated his 40th birthday Thursday, told IANS. Ajay admits the animation film is taking longer than expected.
"But that isn't because of recession. Animation is a very time-taking process. It needs lots of patience," said Ajay whose first directorial debut was "U, Me Aur Hum". He teamed up with his wife in the movie . Life at 40 for Ajay means more work.
"'All the Best', the comedy directed by Rohit Shetty that I'm producing, is currently being shot. So I was busy shooting that. For me there's no life as satisfying as work and family. "Is 40 really a special age to be? I don't feel anything special. It's like any other day. I shot the entire day. No celebrations, nothing that I don't do normally," he said.
Nudge him a little more and Ajay admits there was a family get together. "My entire family, my parents, sister, brother-in-law, my wife and daughter (Nysa) were all together for a dinner. But that's something I do every time I get the chance. Yes, there was a cake. But I didn't cut it. My daughter did."
Any new promises to keep at 40? "None! I feel physically and creatively fitter at 40 than I did at 30. The only new resolution is to devote more time to my blog. It has been renovated. I had been neglecting it. But now I intend to devote time regularly to it. Otherwise everything is the same. I still refuse to work with those I don't like."
Ajay Devgan, who turned 40 recently, has decided to present himself with a directorial venture. The actor disclosed that he will renew his passion for directing. This time, the actor-turned-director says, he will not cast his wife Kajol. Ajay had Kajol as his leading lady in his first directorial venture U, Me Aur Hum. Disclosing further about his new venture, Ajay said that it will be a comic thriller that will bind the audience to their seats.
The good news for those who want to see the husband and wife pair up on screen is that their animation film Toonpur Ka Superhero will be releasing sooner than expected.

Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan starrer 'All The Best – Fun Begins' launched Posted on Montag, 6. April 2009 (EST)
Rohit Shetty helmed action comedy All The Best – Fun Begins, headlining Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse began filming on March 27.
An Ajay Devgan production, the film is an adaptation of the Hindi play Uncle Samjha Karo (2003), penned by Paritosh Painter and Balwinder Singh Suri.
Following the opening schedule in Mumbai, the film unit will move to Lonawala and then for marathon schedules in Goa and South Aftrica.
Rohit says the film will be a mature comedy with serious stunts, unlike the slapstick Golmaal.
The story revolves around hilariously mistaken identities. Sanjay Dutt plays the doting big brother of Fardeen Khan, who has yet to show his worth anywhere and is entirely dependant on Dutt for his survival. Ajay Devgan is a close friend of Fardeen.
When Dutt suddenly decides to check on his younger brother Devgan is at his home visiting with his wife, who Dutt mistakes to be Fardeen’s wife…
Cinematographer Dudley will lens the story and screenplay penned by Robin Bhatt, Yunus Sajawal and Farhad-Sajid.
The film is co-produced by Kumar Mangat and executive produced by Vikrant Sharma.

Dayashankar Pandey who is now essaying the role of Shani dev in Mahima Shani Dev will now be seen in Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. Interestingly the actor would be playing the role of Ajay Devgan’s father.
We spoke to Dayashankar Pandey about this film,
“Yes I play Ajay Devgan’s father in Rajneeti which sounds very difficult to accept but everyone will be surprised by my new character. This film’s subject is quite unique as it deals with Political parties of Northern India and how elections affects the rural India.”
Further he told us, “It was really great pleasure to work with Prakashji and Ajay. I am sure that the film is going to be the talk of the town.”
Its speculated that Katrina Kaif is essaying the role of Congress head Sonia Gandhi and the story revolve around Northern politics. The shooting of the film has taken place in Bhopal and other interior parts of Bihar and UP. Rajneeti is set to release in Jan, 2010. -

On the eve of the 90th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, FOX History & Entertainment brings The Legend of Bhagat Singh.
As a child, Bhagat Singh, witnessed numerous atrocities committed on fellow Indians by their British rulers, such as General Dyer who massacred thousands of innocent men, women and children in Jallianwala Baug. The movie tells the story of all these incidents that left an impact on young Singh and motivated him to wage a war against the British. Starring Ajay Devgan as Bhagat Singh and directed by Rajkumar Santoshi, the film has won two national awards.
The Legend Of Bhagat Singh will be aired on Sunday, April 12, at 2 PM and a repeat telecast on Monday, 13 April , at 11 AM on FOX History & Entertainment.
übersetzt von Foxy-X: Am Vorabend des 90. Jahrestages des Jallianwala Bagh Massakers, zeigt FOX History "The Legend of Bhagat Singh".
Richard Gere might do a cameo in the Amitabh Bachchan starrer Teen Patti directed by Leena Yadav and produced by Ambika Hinduja. Peirce Brosnan was earlier slated to do a cameo in the movie, but opted out and that is when the Pretty Woman actor was roped in. The movie also stars Madhavan, model Saira Mohan and Ajay Devgan in important roles.
Sanjay Dutt is busy with the elections, and his political aspirations have left a lot of producers and directors wondering: Is Sanju baba coming or going? While Ajay Devgan has signed him up for his home production All The Best, we now hear that Dutt has opted out of the film, all thanks to his newfound political career.
However, Sanjay was quick to negate the rumours: “Ajay is like a younger brother. I know him for many years. I’m excited about working with him, and am very much a part of the film. I’ll be joining the unit in Goa in May.”
About hiccups in shooting schedules thanks to Sanjay’s political turn of events, Devgan said, “There are rumours that Sanjay’s campaigning has resulted in the delay of my film. However, Sanju wasn’t needed for the first schedule. Only Bipasha, Fardeen and I were required to shoot. Sanju was always to join us in Goa in May.” Chalo, at least Devgan and Dutt seem to be on the same side of the podium with this kahani.

Vipul Shah's forthcoming magnum opus London Dreams starring Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin will be the first ever film to feature a blue-colored lit Eiffel Tower. In case you are wondering if the Eiffel Tower has actually been painted in blue, let us tell you that the blue colour is courtesy the special lighting which was on the Eiffel tower for a certain period to mark the beginning of France's presidency in the European Union.
Vipul Shah obviously is elated that not only did he get to shoot his film at the world-famous Eiffel tower but also got a chance to be part of this rare specially coloured look for the historic monument. He states, "When we were initially planning to shoot a scene and a song in front of the Eiffel tower, we had no idea that we were in for a pleasant surprise. The whole of France was celebrating the country's presidency in the European Union and as a special tribute the Eiffel tower had a special blue lighting which gave it a spectacular look. I am lucky that ours would be the first and probably the only film to feature this special blue look of the Eiffel tower as the lighting was on only for a limited period."
Quiz him on whether London Dreams would still arrive in August and Vipul replies, "Shooting of the film is complete. As for the release date, we will have to wait and watch how things shape up considering the on-going strike."
Meanwhile, Vipul is already busy with the shooting of his next film Action Replay starring Akshay Kumar and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. There were some reports in certain section of the media that the film's storyline is similar to the Brad Pitt- Cate Blanchett Oscar nominated film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. In fact, Warner Bros. had even issued a public notice threatening to sue anybody who tries to remake the film without their approval. However, Vipul is quick to dismiss any such rumours about his film. "My film Action Replay is based on a play of the same name that I had done nearly 15 years ago. We had performed around 200 shows of the same play. So there is no question of me violating the copyrights of The Curious Case of Benjamin Button when there is no similarity whatsoever between the storyline of the two films," signs off Vipul.

Ajay Devgan is known to be the most chilled-out person on the sets, but he too apparently lost his cool on the sets of London Dreams when he found out that the outfits he needed to wear for some crucial scenes in the movie were not fitting him.
DNA has learnt that the situation was saved by Salman Khan's timely intervention who gave Ajay outfits from his personal collection which was luckily similar to those that Kajol's hubby was supposed to flaunt.
A source close to the development informs, "Ana Singh is the costume designer for the film and she has worked with Ajay for many years now. She had made all the outfits for the actor but the goof up happened when Vipul Shah (the director) while strolling in London suddenly loved something from Zara, picked it up for Ajay and did not check with Ana thinking that since the size was the same, it would fit Ajay well."
The insider adds, "On the day of the shoot, to everybody's shock Ajay's wardrobe was found to be ill-fitting. Nothing could be done about it and it was upsetting, but thankfully Salman came to the rescue and became Ajay's stylist for those shots by giving his personal clothes. He saved the day."
Confirming this, Vipul says, "Ajay is always cool as a cucumber and so we did not have any problems from his end as he was willing to go ahead with the shoot if alterations made things better. The problem was with an overcoat which we thought would fit Ajay fine but after Ajay wore it, the coat was hanging on him. We were upset as without it the look that we wanted to stick to for the film was getting ruined. At that moment Salman rescued our film's scenes as he gave Ajay something that he was carrying and it was quite similar to what we wanted. He became Ajay's stylist for all the shots. Ajay too returned the favour. He gave his own clothes to Salman during shooting."
übersetzt von soulsurfer: Salman Khan rettet Ajay Devgan! Mumbai.
Ajay Devgan and Kajol shot some really stunning action scenes recently in Mehboob Syudios for their forthcoming film, Toonpur Ka Superhero sometime back.
Hollywood action director Jack Gill, whose work repertoire includes big action successes like the Spiderman and Superman series, The Rock and Terminator-2 was at the helm of the affairs.
It is learnt that while Kajol was a little apprehensive of doing the difficult action scenes, Jack managed to convince her to go ahead without fear.
"Kajol is quiet a lot like my wife in the sense that she does not want to do action. She likes love stories and drama. I kind of identify with her. She is a beautiful lady but I had to coax her to do the stunt with Ajay. It was just a single shot and was not very difficult but I could see fear in her eyes. She is not comfortable with it like Julia Roberts who does not like action at all. Julia had this fear of heights and I had to go slow with her. It took her a while to get used to it" Jack tells us.
Jack had Ajay's image as an action hero before he began the actual shoot for the film. "But it took a while for him to get back to action since he has been out of it for sometime. He was sore for the first 3 to 4 weeks we had to work on him. He didn't realize that would get so rigorous." says Jack.
"We had something called the cage and along it the rest piece of equipment to make it believable. It lifts the actor high up in the air 20 to 30 meters and twists his body spiraling him up to the camera. He's looking up at the camera as it is above him. Lifting the camera and actor as one piece of machinery can make anyone feel dizzy. It's tough but he picked it up fast" reveals the action director.
But shooting in Mumbai has not been easy ride for Jack. Jack says, "We got cutting edge equipment from the US, which was first for any Bollywood film. It was a new technique for them and it was taxing too. Especially the manual hydraulic devices which can pull you up from one place and fly you across stage and land you right in front of the camera. It can be dangerous. If you don't handle the rig properly it can break your legs."
Currently shooting for Wild Hogs 2, Jack Gill says that Hollywood style action is fast picking up India. "I always thought Bollywood was just one area in Mumbai but when I came here I realized it was spread all over Mumbai." But then did he have communication problems? "Well language was no issue. I work through gestures. There was no problem communicating with them. I have got used to the food here. But now food back home is going to taste strange since I am so used to the spicy food." Jack concludes.
We're all waiting for U Me Aur Hum, Kajol's second film after marriage. In an exclusive interview, the actress talks excitedly about the film, her husband Ajay Devgan as director and her debut as a producer. Excerpts:
How did it feel being directed by hubby Ajay Devgan? It was an honour and I am proud that my husband directed me as a heroine. He was one of the best directors I have ever worked with and it's going to stay with me for a very long time. He is a true director to the core.
I have worked with some of the very great directors and I feel that at the end of the day, it is a professional relationship.
What areas did you look after in this home production? I don't think credit can be given to any one individual. We have worked as a team. We used to have meetings and brainstorming sessions every night and discuss the next day's schedule. We have all worked very hard. I don't know whether I have contributed or not, but I was always there with the team.
How much input did you give on the sets? Were there any improvisations? Did you ever discuss the film at home? I don't think I have made any special effort. Right from the story idea, to the script and through the entire shoot, all of us worked together. The credit goes to the executive producer, editors, scriptwriters and everyone who worked hard to make it a good film. We used to brainstorm, chat and develop new ideas. So it was a team effort. As far as the improvisations were concerned, we had a bound script and we shot it as it was. We do discuss changes sometimes, but nowadays it has increased since we are in the post-production phase [at the time of the interview]. Ajay speaks about nothing but the film.
Any chances of taking up direction? And how strict was Ajay on the sets? Absolutely none. I am happy acting and I feel I can achieve a lot as an actor. I want to achieve the best in the field of acting but I am not interested in direction at all. Ajay was like a principal of a school and I think if a principal is not strict, the school can go haywire. Ajay made sure everyone on the sets knew who the captain of the ship was. He has a different working pattern. Although he was the director of the film, I was also the producer, so he didn't scold me. He was so clear with his ideas that he never got a chance to reprimand me. Ajay is very easy to understand. I think we would be very dumb not to understand Ajay.
Was there any particular reason you chose Vishal Bharadwaj to sing the title track of the film? I think it is important to bring in new talent. We were also given a break when we were newcomers. He is a great music director and has a great voice and so we asked him to sing the title track. It is my most favourite number in the film. The lyrics of the song are very touching. Over all, the album has lovely numbers. There is a slow romantic number, a naughty number and a fast Punjabi track. So it has a mix of everything.
What is the name of your character in the movie? How different is she from Simran and Anjali? The name of my character is Pia and that of Ajay is Ajay. Pia is very, very different from Anjali and Simran. Pia and Ajay are a very normal couple. There is nothing filmy about these two characters in the film.
Ajay is famous for playing pranks on the sets... Ajay did not play any pranks on me or on anybody else on the sets. There was so much fun on the sets that no pranks were required. The entire team was like a family for us. So we never realised that we were working.
Did your daughter come on the sets? Have you shown her your films? Nyasa was with us on the cruise, but not on the sets. She used to get bored. Her school was also starting so I didn't take her with us. When she was around, I got tense about her food and sleep and couldn't concentrate on work. I tried showing her my films, but when she sees me crying, she starts crying too and asks us to change the channel immediately. Maybe I will show her my films when she grows up and can understand the films better than now.
What kind of roles are you looking forward to? We have heard that you are doing Karan Johar's My Name Is Khan... I've tentatively said yes to Karan. I have not yet read the script. Nothing has been finalised yet. As for my roles, it depends on the script. It has to be a good script and a good director. I won't say yes unless I see the script.
Why do you think married heroines are making a comeback in films? It's not a recent trend. Heroines from Saira Banu onwards have made a comeback after marriage. But yes, the audience has changed, their viewpoint has changed.
Films on different subjects are being made and I consider myself lucky to be in an age where I can do different kinds of films. You don't have to be a 16-year-old to do films any longer.
Was wollen Sie in Zukunft für Rollen spielen? Wir hörten, Sie werden in Karan Johars My Name Is Khan mitspielen...
Ranbir Kapoor plays an NRI forced to return home to take over the family business (in this case, politics). Sounds familiar? Abhishek Bachchan played a similar role in Ram Gopal Varma's Sarkar.
And both characters are inspired by Al Pacino's Don Corleone in Francis Coppola's The Godfather. Ranbir of course plays a mixture of Rajiv Gandhi and Don Corleone in Rajneeti.
And as coincidence would have it, both Abhishek and Ranbir had Katrina as their co-star, but with a difference. In Sarkar, Katrina's anglicized voice had to be dubbed although she played an NRI and could've easily used her accented voice for the character. In Rajneeti, Katrina gives long speeches in shudh Hindi all in her own voice.
Katrina Kaif's two-minute speech in front of a 10,000-strong attentive crowd at a public rally in Bhopal for Rajneeti, has whetted Ranbir Kapoor's appetite for getting right the speeches that he needs to deliver for Prakash Jha's film when he starts shooting in August.
There's just one hitch. Ranbir doesn't need to learn shuddh hindi, like Katrina did. He already knows that. He needs to cultivate an accent to sound like an America-returned Delhi boy who suddenly needs to go from monosyllabic rashtra bhasha to full-speeches.
Prakash Jha has planned intense reading and speech therapy sessions for Ranbir for him to get the accented Hindustani right.
To play a Harvard educated US-based NRI who must suddenly return home to look after his mother's political empire, Ranbir Kapoor in a role that Al Pacino would have liked to play, is not just all set to start shooting, he's raring to go.
Ranbir won't play the reluctant politician in the usual khadi kurta-pajama dress code. "Ranbir will be very trendily dressed. He plays a young man of today," informs the director.
Apparently, the character is a mix of Rajiv Gandhi and Michael Corloene from Francis Ford Coppola's The Godfather.
Ranbir who joins the cast in August has been regularly calling and talking to the entire cast in Bhopal.
Says Prakash affectionately, "He even offered to leave whatever he was doing and join us in Bhopal although his shooting starts next month. I remember one day Ajay, Nana, Arjun, Manoj were working together and missing Ranbir. So in the evening we got together in my hotel room and called him. Ranbir spoke to each of us individually. He wanted to leave everything in Mumbai and join us Bhopal."
Prakash starts workshops with Ranbir after the Lok Sabha elections. Says Prakash, "Ranbir is so excited about his look, and dialogues. He needs to play a character who defines democracy in today's world. I wouldn't describe it as a multi-starrer. It's a multi-actor film. Katrina Kaif is such a revelation. She was so nervous giving a speech in front of 10,000 people. After she gave her speech I hugged her on stage and shouted out to the junta, 'Bhopal ka ticket de de kya?' As for Naseer, if I hadn't worked with him I wouldn't have been a complete filmmaker."
Die anderen Schauspieler, u.a.
Apparently, the actor will be playing a Bihari assassin in the film

Aparna Sen's first Hindi film, Gulel, was to star Ajay Devgan and Saif Ali Khan but had been stuck for long since both these stars remained non-committal about their availability. There was also news about Abhishek Bachchan having replaced Devgan but now there is a new twist in the tale. Sources reveal Aparna's daughter Konkona has managed to rope in Ranbir Kapoor for Gulel, a film produced by Ismail Merchant's nephew, Naeem Hafiz. ...
