Bipasha: A BlackBerry For The Black Beauty From Ajay Devgan
July 1st, 2009 - 10:25 am ICT by sampurn By Subhash K Jha
If you have a problem getting through to Bipasha Basu it’s not a network problem. It’s her new phone, a swanky Blackberry gifted by her producer and co-star Ajay Devgan this week as a wrap-up gift for his leading lady.
And though Bipasha has lost all her numbers and she can’t identify any caller she just can’t get enough of her new phone.
“I love it! I’m going totally crazy with it. Though I’ve no numbers on it and am trying to figure it out, I just can’t get enough of it,” says the actress who finished shooting for Ajay Devgan’s comedy All The Best in Goa this week.
Devgan gifted the phone to Bipasha out of the blue (or shall we say, black?) on the last day of shooting for working round the clock including late nights and early mornings. In fact Bipasha kept off the phone to the extent of not even connecting with her boyfriend John Abraham who was limping around on crutches in Mumbai trying to promote his new film.
Apparently Bipasha also agreed to do an additional role in All The Best without charging a single penny extra.
Devgan known to be a generous prouducer had heard Bipasha mention she wanted a Blackberry.
Says the actress, “Yeah, Ajay knew I wanted it. In fact it was he who got me interested in. It is actually a gift in appreciation for working long hours and changing at lightning speed between shots when we had loads of work to finish. Ajay is a fabulous co-star, producer and co-star.”
Bipasha soon leaves for Hyderabad to shoot the songs for All The Best. On Saturday she also watched her boyfriend’s new film New York finally.
... ... ... Lastly, what is the status of your forthcoming films?
I will be starting Anees Bazmee's No Problems next month, which should be out early next year. Then, there's an untitled film with Priyadarshan which has me and Ajay Devgan in it and is being produced by Ajay himself.
Diwali has always been the most preferred time for filmmakers to release their movies. Om Shanti Om created history when it released during the Diwali weekend two years ago.
This year five films are hoping to encash on the festivities. Among these one is a small-budget flick titled Rama: The Saviour starring Tanushree Dutta, Sahil Khan and Khali, the wrestler.
Then there is Aladin starring Amitabh Bachchan, Sanjay Dutt and Riteish Deshmukh among others. Sujoy Ghosh, who has earlier directed Home Delivery directs this film. Aladin has been in the making for quite some time now but it is believed that the makers have locked on the date.
Salman Khan's Main Aur Mrs Khanna is also supposed to hit the screens on the same day. The film stars Kareena Kapoor opposite Salman Khan and also has Preity Zinta in a cameo.
Adding to the crowd is Akshay Kumar's Blue starring Lara Dutta, Zayed Khan and Sanjay Dutt. The film is also said to have some breathtaking underwater shots.
If reports are to be believed, Sanjay Dutt will have yet another release on the very same weekend. His film All the Best also stars Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Mugdha Godse and Fardeen Khan. The movie is supposed to be based on a popular play by the same name.
New Delhi (IANS): It was hard not to fall in love with the nutty Circuit and his brainless antics. Now Arshad Warsi, the Bollywood actor who played the character effortlessly in the two hit Munnabhai comedy films, says part three will go on the floors in 2010.
... ... ... Asked if there were any other actors he liked working with, he said: "I have fun (onscreen) with Riteish (Deshmukh), but Ajay (Devgan) and I are completely mad when we are together."
... ... His other future projects include "Ishqiya" and "Kaun Bola" and he is also waiting for part three of "Golmaal".
Thanks to Ajay Devgan, one of our most talented cinematographers, Aseem Bajaj, was in England this June to shoot an independent British film.
"It's a British production called The Dreaming Spires directed by Shamim Sarif. It's about the first American boy Joseph Connors who came to Oxford University to serve as a reader to a blind British female professor," says Aseem who has served as DOP to Bollywood films as varied as Chameli and Golmaal.
And to think the Dreaming Spires might have never happened for Aseem! He explains, "After U Me Aur Hum, I was supposed to shoot Ajay Devgan's next directorial project. But now he's busy with Rohit Shetty's and Milan Luthria's films. He's also doing Priyadarshan's next. So that left the rest of the year free for me."
Earlier Aseem had served as DOP on Shamim Sarif's I Can't Think Straight, a semi-autobiographical film about lesbianism which starred Lisa Ray and Sheetal Sheth. "But that was a partly Indian film in the sense that it dealt with the life of Indian characters. The Dreaming Spires has no Indian characters."
This time the casting was far more impeccable. Says Aseem, "In I Can't Think Straight, the accents of the two principal leads were all wrong. This time we're being very careful. Since The Dreaming Spires is an independent production, the budget is merely 200,000 pounds. So we couldn't afford big stars."
Aseem, who's currently shooting his wife Leena Yadav's Teen Patti, is naturally kicked about the British project. "I don't know whether I'm the first Indian DOP doing a full-fledged British production. But other DOPs like Madhu Ambat and Santosh Sivan have shot international projects. I'm happy to join their ranks," says Aseem who has recently shot a short-film on child abuse.
"It's an 18-minute British film on child abuse as seen through the eyes of a 21-year old man, who has grown up with memories of murdering his mother and crucifying his abusive father. He kills both the parents because while the father abused him the mother would watch and even encourage the abuse."
The film entitled Dissociation is directed by a young filmmaker Ish Thapar who's the son of the famed documentary maker Navin Thapar.
Says Aseem, "The film is obviously based on a real life incident. When I asked the director, he said it was a friend's story. I'm just happy doing something that talks about a very real incident and how it scars the individual."

After the success of Golmaal Returns, Rohit Shetty has completed another comic film, All The Best
You have completed the shooting of All The Best and you seem to be enjoying making comedies. Yes, because it is working for me. My comedy films have fared better than my other films. All The Best is a fun film, more like Golmaal. There is utter madness and lots of things happening to make it very funny. I am certain that it will also be enjoyed.
For the first time you have Sanjay Dutt in your film. How was the experience of working with him?
It was a wonderful experience working with all these dedicated artistes. Sanjay plays Fardeen Khan’s elder brother. As always, he has done a good job. Moreover, he is looking very good after having lost oodles of weight. He has also performed a rock number for the film.
Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse also feature in your project for the first time.
Fardeen Khan is superb as an aspiring singer. Mugdha Godse plays his girlfriend. She is also good considering this is her second film. I had earlier worked with Bipasha Basu in Zameen so there is a comfort level with her.
Why is Ajay Devgan a permanent star in your film?
He is the best. We are an old team having been friends for so long and have worked together in many films. In the film, he plays Fardeen’s best friend. Ajay is also the producer of All The Best.
How is Ajay Devgan as the producer? Is it true that he spent over Rs 6.5 crore for a song that was picturised on Sanjay Dutt?
He is the best. Ajay gives a freehand to everyone, be it the technician or the artistes. He also takes care of his unit personally. And what is amazing is that he knows each person by their names. A huge set was erected on a beach and there was a crowd of over 5,000 people. Sanjay Dutt performed a rock number and it was a sight to watch. Managing the crowd was a tough task but we are happy that the song has turned out very well.
When did the film get rolling?
We started shooting for the film on May 7 in Goa and completed it on June 25. We have been staying in the best of hotels and working at a leisurely pace and yet have managed to complete the film within the time- span. Two songs are to be shot in Hyderabad and the film will be ready for Diwali release on October 16.
Is Goa your favourite shooting spot?
It is the best place to work. It is comfortable. Travelling time is saved when everyone is staying in close quarters. Moreover, there is bonding amongst the unit which makes work more simpler.
Is it true that the shooting was delayed because of the elections and the demise of Feroz Khan?
These things were unavoidable. But once we got rolling we finished at the scheduled time.
After the success of Golmaal and Golmaal Returns, why did you start All The Best instead of Golmaal Part 3?
I wanted a break. And I thought even people wanted something different from me. Also, I thought since both the films are being telecast on satellite channels and everyone is enjoying them still, it would be advisable to wait to start the third part. Otherwise there will be no novelty factor to the film if it comes one after the other.
Tusshar was loved for his character of a speech-impaired guy. Is it true that he would be playing a double role in part 3?
Tusshar’s was a lovable character. As for the double role, I have yet to start working on the script and nothing is decided as yet. I plan to go with the flow.
If all goes well, Sanjay Dutt will fly to Singapore to meet the ailing Amar Singh who is there for a kidney transplant. Says a source close to Sanjay Dutt, "Sanju is very close to Amar Singh and was keen to visit him in Singapore but unfortunately, couldn't get his visa on time. Sanju consideres Amar Singh to be like his elder brother."
Buzz up! Last Friday, when Amar Singh was in Delhi for a short time, Sanju rushed to meet him. The next day, he flew back to Hyderabad for a shoot of All The Best. Producer Ajay Devgan would have postponed the shoot and allowed him to go had Dutt's visa come through." Though Dutt was very disappointed that he couldn't get his Singapore visa, he kept trying.
Now Sanju is hoping to get a visa in the next few days and leave for the island city with his wife Manyata." Dutt says, "The visa will take 20 days. Maana and I will go to Singapore after my visa is done." After Dutt returns from Singapore, he will head to South Africa for a 40-day schedule of Anil Kapoor's No Problem.
She stood her ground against the likes of Priyanka Chopra and Kangana Ranaut and is now one of the most sought after actors in Bollywood. Mughda Godse, Madhur Bhandarkar’s current muse, is in the city shooting for her upcoming movie All the Best. “I love Hyderabad,” she chirps. “I can’t believe how good the weather is. This is the first time I have come here to shoot and I am thrilled about it.”
The 23-year-old actress is brimming with optimism after her performance in Fashion gained accolades from critics and audiences alike. She is playing an interesting role in All the Best, an out and out comedy and is also doing her first solo lead role in Madhur Bhandarkar’s next, Jail opposite Neil Nitin Mukesh. And though she is on the look out for more solo leads, she also enjoys multi-starrers which are a great learning experience.
“Working with veterans such as Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan is a treat,” she says. “They are great teachers. I have learnt a lot from them.” “Even Bipasha Basu is sweet,” Mughda adds. “She is outgoing and has a great sense of style. I am learning new adayes and jalwas from her.”
Appreciated as much for her looks as her acting skills, she says the secret to her figure is her mother’s genes. “I know it sounds cliched, but I am lucky to get her genes,” she quips. Mughda is now confident that she can do well in films. “I am a learner and there is a lot to be said about the film medium,” she says. “It is a great way to reach out to the masses.”
But the leggy beauty has her priorities set and item numbers do not feature in her agenda. “People have different preferences and mine is acting,” she says. “It does not matter whether the films are commercial or parallel. I will only do roles which demand acting. So, item numbers are definitely out.”
Mughda is also keen on doing a Tollywood film. “As long as the industry does not find me too thin I am game for Telugu movies coming my way,” she chuckles. For the time being, her priority is to have a taste of the famed Hyderabad biriyani. “I am wrapping up the shoot and then heading to eat as much biryani as I can,” she says.

The shooting of this mega-budget film started on 7th May and has just finished in mid-July.
The laugh riot stars Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu & Mugdha Godsein the lead.
While music is by Pritam, Lyrics by Kumar and the film is co-produced by Kumar Mangat.
After the mega success of GOLMAAL RETURNS last diwali, the successful duo of Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan have teamed up again for another laughter riot. We wish 'all the best' to the duo!!!
Wir wünschen den beiden "all the best"!
All the Best, directed by Rohit Shetty, starrs Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu in the lead roles. Other cast members include Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Mallika Sherawat, Mugdha Godse and Asrani. The film has been shot in the locations of Mumbai and Goa.
The movie, said to be a complete entertainer, is produced by Ajay's home production. U, Me Aur Hum, his earlier film produced by his home banner, proved his talent as a good director. All the Best will be released on October 16 as a Diwali treat.
For her next film, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai, Ekta Kapoor wants everything to look exactly like Mumbai did in the 1980s. To this end, she has hired art director Nitin Desai, and added Rs 7 crores to the film’s art direction budget and even shot at a gangster’s house. “I am totally involved with the making of the film. I want the roads, clothes, hairstyles of the 1980s to come alive,” said Ekta.
However, Ekta is against shooting the film’s derby sequence on the sets. She said, “We’ll be going into actual locations to recreate the Mumbai of the 1980s. But, no matter how good Nitin Desai is with the art direction, he can’t recreate the race course ambience on the sets. So, the film’s derby sequence will be shot at the Mahalaxmi Race Course. Just like Om Shanti Om recreated the 1970s and the flower-power culture, we’ll be going into the next decade to recreate the early 1980s in every detail.”
Ajay Devgan, who plays Haji Mastan, will also have a characteristic gangster get-up. Ekta said, “During those times the derby was the most ‘in’ thing, thanks to Feroz Khan who introduced horses, stud farms and stallions into our film culture. Haji Mastan used to dress up flamboyantly and hang out with film stars. He loved going to the derby.”
But isn’t Ekta taking the ‘real’ deal a bit too far? “Even during these times of recession we’ve decided to scale up our art direction budget from Rs 8 crores to Rs 15 crores, after seeing the rushes,” said Ekta, “It’s a high-concept film and it can’t look tacky. We have to create a distinct difference between Dongri, which was poor and underfed and the derby culture which was opulence at its best.”
Bipasha Basu rushed from Hyderabad to Mumbai for a day to spend time with beau John Abraham, who was leaving for London for a month-long schedule. She returned to the Charminar city the following day, to finish a pending song for All The Best. As a result, she missed the film's wrap up party. Producer Ajay Devgan had requested her to stay back for the wrap-up party. She says, "I had to come back for John as I won't be meeting him for a long time now."
Buzz up! Bips says, "When you are away on an outdoor shoot for a long time the co-stars and crew become like an extended family. We all hang out together and even have our meals together. I will miss them all when we finally wrap up this last song." Another reason Bipasha had to return was because her Khar apartment is almost ready. "I had to come back for some final work on it. I was homeless until now and was in a dilemma whether I should stay in Andheri (she also has a flat there) or Bandra. Though it's exciting to move into a place completely done up according to my specifications and taste," She laughs, "Though I wish someone would pay the bills for me or at least someone rich like a king adopts me as a child."
Though Devgan gifted her BlackBerry, one person that Bips has come away impressed with is Fardeen Khan. Bipasha says, "Fardeen is a very philosophical person — very well-read, intelligent, well-behaved and chivalrous. I found him a most impressive talker."
The buzz is that when there was talk of Bipasha learning belly dancing on the sets, Fardeen had excitedly jumped up and asked when? He had added that he was even ready to sponsor Bipasha for her belly dancing classes. Bipasha had quipped that after learning she would show her dances to Devgan and Fardeen. Bipasha laughs, "Yes that's true Fardeen did say that and it was sweet of him. But I haven't started my classes yet."
Mumbai: Here's a new story of bonding in tinsel town. DNA has learnt that actors Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu gelled very well on the sets of their forthcoming film All the Best in Goa over gym sessions as both are fitness freaks and worked out for hours together.
A source present on the sets of the movie says: "Ajay had his personal trainer Sheru (Sherveer Vakil) with him on the sets as usual as he has been a fitness freak for years. He got a great partner to work out with and she was Bipasha. Bips has taken a keen liking for yoga and has also become a complete water baby as she is swimming a lot now. She works out more than Ajay actually and puts in around 4 hours every day. But they had a great time as they worked out in the same space and had fun sessions together."
The insider adds: "It was a gruelling schedule and Rohit Shetty (director) was filing very quickly and the actors had to give in everything during the entire filming schedule. But Ajay was amazed at Bipasha's fitness level.
She used to go on and on and on. From running to swimming to yoga she is relentless in keeping her body in shape and that too every day. Ajay too sweated it out regularly while the others on the sets mostly chose to chill on the beaches or their hotel rooms. Bips and Ajay are very diet conscious and they were particular about that too."
For a long time he’s been missing from B-town’s forever buzzing social scene, for obvious reasons. He spent most of last year with his dad, and after his sudden demise, he’s not in a celebratory mood, anyway. So it’s just home and work for the man. Recently, while shooting in Hyderabad with Ajay Devgan and Sanju, he started running high fever, but he had no intention of skipping even a day’s work. Though Sanju and Ajay were more than willing to hold off on the shoot for him, FK refused to pack up and go home. He quickly called for a doc on the sets, got some shots and went on with work as usual. Well, in these hard times, there’s no point in wasting producer’s paisa, no? Good job, FK!

Vipul Shah's LONDON DREAMS marks the comeback of Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, together on the silver screen, after a gap of almost a decade. The duo moved many a hearts with their superb individual performances in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM and Salman's pre-climax scene in the film melted many a tough heart. And it looks like the audience is in for a similar kind of treat this time too.
The confirmation of our above speculation emanates from the fact that it is none other than lead actor Ajay Devgan who has spilled the beans on the heart-wrenching climax scene from LONDON DREAMS. Ajay says that Salman has put in a very special performance in LONDON DREAMS. He is also full of praise for Salman who he says would move the audience to tears with his performance in the dramatic climax scene.
Mighty interesting, coming from none other than the actor who has won multiple National Awards for Best Actor. This performance by Salman will indeed be worth a watch in Vipul's LONDON DREAMS.
