After both picked up a much-needed victory to begin the week, the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames look to come out of the holiday break with a second straight victory on Friday night in the third installment this season of the Battle for Alberta. The Oilers were in the midst of a season-high six-game slide before knocking off the Winnipeg Jets 6-2 on Monday. Taylor Hall had a goal and two assists as Edmonton put the game away with a three-goal third period. Hall set up David Perrons goal with 3:20 to go in the second period that snapped a 2-2 tie and joined Jeff Petry and Nail Yakupov as the third-period goal scorers. Jordan Eberle and Sam Gagner also lit the lamp. The Oilers had scored just six goals and been shut out three times over their losing streak. "We stuck with it and were finally rewarded for our hard work," Edmonton head coach Dallas Eakins said of his teams perseverance. "We had a good start and we were able to maintain it." Ilya Bryzgalov made 18 saves in Edmontons first win since Dec. 10. The Oilers have not won two in a row since a three-game run from Nov. 16-21. The Flames brought an 0-2-2 winless stretch to a close on Monday with a 4-3 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues, getting a game-tying goal from defenseman Mark Giordano with 5.1 seconds left in regulation. After St. Louis Patrik Berglund was called for roughing, Calgary pulled goaltender Reto Berra and Giordano ripped home a one-time feed from Jiri Hudler. "We felt like the last three or four games weve been playing really well, but we havent been getting the results," Giordano said. "Against one of the best teams in the league to come back and win in that way, it leaves a good feeling. Its going to be a nice Christmas break for sure." Hudler and Mike Cammalleri had a goal and an assist each, while Berra ended with 32 saves. Calgary center Matt Stajan did limp into the dressing room in overtime after getting hit and his status for tonights second contest of a five-game homestand is unknown. These two rivals have split two meetings this season, with the Oilers notching a 4-2 victory in Calgary on Nov. 16 before the Flames responded with a 2-1 overtime decision in Edmonton on Dec. 7. Calgary has won 12 of the previous 17 meetings overall and 11 of the last 14 at home. Berra was in net for the first two meetings this season, posting a 1.97 goals against average. Bryzgalov is 10-7-1 with a 2.69 GAA in 18 career meetings with the Flames, while Devan Dubnyk is 5-4-2 with a 2.46 GAA versus them. He started the previous two encounters. It is unknown which goaltender will start tonight as Edmonton is also set to host Bryzgalovs former Philadelphia Flyers club on Saturday. Roark (7-5) allowed four runs on 10 hits and one walk over six innings in a 7-2 setback in front of several friends and family members, as the Cubs snapped his personal streak of four consecutive victories on Friday.TAMPA, Fla. -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers upgraded their struggling offensive line, trading for six-time Pro Bowl guard Logan Mankins instead of offering a contract to free agent Richie Incognito. That doesnt mean, however, that the Bucs have closed the door on the prospect of giving one of the players at the centre of the Miami Dolphins bullying scandal a chance to resume his career. After acquiring Mankins in exchange for second-year tight end Tim Wright and an undisclosed draft pick on Tuesday, coach Lovie Smith and general manager Jason Licht said Incognito remains an "option" if they decide to make more changes to an overhauled line that will begin the regular season with four new starters. "We try to not to talk about putting a period behind many things. Everything is ongoing. If a player is available out there, theres still possibilities," Smith said. "But we like our football team where we are right now. Weve made a lot of improvements. We feel like were in pretty good shape going into the season." The deal came less than 24 hours after the Bucs met with Incognito to try to determine if the 31-year-old whos coming off serving a suspension for his role in last seasons bullying scandal might be an answer to their problems at guard. Smith described Incognitos visit as "informative," adding that the 2012 Pro Bowl selection with the Dolphins was able to answer "all of the questions I had" in the face-to-face meeting. While its unclear what will happen with Incognito moving forward, Smith and Licht stressed they felt fortunate to be able to add a player the calibre of Mankins. "He has a history of a certain type of play in the league," Smith said, adding that the 10th-year pro will bring leadership on and off the field. &quuot; We got better, kind of simple as that," the coach added.dddddddddddd. "I like the direction our football team is heading." Mankins was a first-round draft pick of the Patriots in 2005 and has been selected for the Pro Bowl each of the past five seasons. He appeared in two Super Bowls and started all 130 regular season games and 17 post-season games hes played in during a nine-year stay with New England. "Its very sad. Hes been here for a long time," Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis said. "Ive only been here for a couple of months, but Mank is known around the league as being one of the best offensive linemen in the game," the cornerback added. "Hes proven that, and hes done it for a long time." Revis played with Tampa Bay last season, so hes familiar with what New England is getting in return. Wright joined the Bucs as an undrafted free agent in 2013, starting eight games and finishing with 54 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns. Despite a productive rookie year, Wright became expendable after the Bucs signed veteran tight end Brandon Myers in free agency and then selected Austin Seferian-Jenkins in the second round of the draft. "Hes great, man. He started for us down in Tampa Bay. ... Were getting a solid player who can catch, who can run and run great routes," Revis said. "He was a wide receiver coming in and they switched him to tight end. He has a lot of speed at the tight end position." The Bucs will enter the season with at least four new starters on the offensive line, including both guards. Oniel Cousins and Patrick Omameh were listed as the starters before the trade for Mankins. Tackle Anthony Collins and centre Evan Dietrich-Smith joined the team in free agency. ' ' '
