Even though theres only one true ace, Wednesday is stacked with solid pitchers in favorable matchups. This makes it tough to find strong hitting, but thats what were here for. Find out what pitchers grade out better than the rest, as well as the hitters enjoying an advantage in Wednesdays Daily Notes.PitchingEliteSince we revamped the ranking algorithm earlier this season, its rare that a pitcher lands with a projected Game Score of 70 or above. That takes the perfect confluence of a highly skilled hurler and an ideal matchup. Last weeks blip against the Cincinnati Reds aside, Jose Fernandez fills the skills requirement, with a dominant 13.0 K/9 and stingy 2.7 BB/9. The Kansas City Royals traveling to South Beach takes care of the matchup element. For the past month, the defending World Series champs are the weakest club with a righty on the hill, which puts the Miami Marlins right-hander in a great spot for a big bounce-back effort.Jacob deGrom is also looking to rebound from a rare blow-up after he gave up a season-high eight runs and 13 hits to the San Francisco Giants. However, his matchup isnt as enticing, with the New York Mets meeting the St. Louis Cardinals?at Busch Stadium. The Redbirds hit right-handers well, but for the past month, theyve fanned 25 percent of the time in that scenario. This makes deGrom an intriguing choice for DFS GPP play.Gerrit Cole checks in as the third ace looking to regain form. The Pittsburgh Pirates righty has allowed 12 earned runs and a whopping 31 baserunners in his previous three games, a span of 16 2/3 innings. Last time, against the Marlins, Cole allowed a pair of home runs after not letting a hitter leave the yard since May 20. Starting a new homer-free streak will be a challenge with the free-swinging Houston Astros visiting PNC Park for an interleague affair. If you pay for pitching, Fernandez is the clear choice, with Cole an option for those favoring diversifying with more than one lineup. We have a cameo appearance in the elite tier, as the normally solid Kyle Hendricks gets a bump buoyed by a date against the San Diego Padres?at Petco Park. The Chicago Cubs righty boasts the second-lowest ERA among hurlers with at least 10 starts, checking in at a tidy 2.16. The opposing Friars sport the poorest weighted on base average (wOBA) versus righties, in tandem with a generous 25 percent whiff rate. Hendricks is a top cash game option with the rare upside to be used in GPP tournaments as well.SolidIts a deep, solid tier with an unusually high 12 arms registering a projected Game Score between 46 and 52. By convention, theyre all options for seasonal play. Those standing out for DFS gamers will be highlighted. If someone of interest is omitted, please take advantage of the comments section below or hit me up on Twitter, @ToddZola.Carlos Martinez sets up nicely for DFS cash game play as the Cardinals host the Mets. Over the past month, the Redbirds are the second-weakest club in the league with a righty on the hill, though they dont lend Martinez much strikeout upside.Yu Darvish and his 11.6 K/9 organically provide strikeout upside. The Texas Rangers venture to the Great American Ballpark, which means Darvish gets to face a pitcher a couple times. That potentially pads his whiffs and GPP potential even more. As a club, the Reds are fanning at a slightly above average clip against righties. After three straight road efforts, Zack Greinke will take the hill at Chase Field for the first time since coming off the disabled list. The Arizona Diamondbacks righty scuffled in the desert over the first half of the season, though he seemed to be getting acclimated heading into the break. His first home start of the second half comes against an Atlanta Braves club that has quietly hit right-handers well lately. Even so, Greinke is in play for cash games.Hisashi Iwakuma?is normally considered more for his safety than his upside, but with the New York Yankees venturing to the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle Mariners righty has some stealth upside. Over the past month, the revamped New York Yankees lineup has fanned at a 25 percent pace with a right-hander on the hill. Factor in pitcher-friendly Safeco Field, and Iwakuma profiles favorably for all forms of DFS play.Matt Shoemaker is still pitching well, despite chalking up fewer punchouts in the second half. The Los Angeles Angels are north of the border to take on the Toronto Blue Jays?at Rogers Centre. The hosts are explosive but prone to punchouts with a righty on the hill. This combination renders Shoemaker the slates contrarian option for GPP enthusiasts. The final solid option making the cut is Rick Porcello as he takes on the Tampa Bay Rays?at Tropicana Field. The Boston Red Sox right-hander normally lines up better for cash action, but because the home team whiffs at a 24 percent clip against righties, Porcello is in play for GPP deployment.StreamersAfter allowing two homers only three times in his first 22 starts, Jerad Eickhoff has surrendered a pair of long balls in each of his past three outings. Next up for the Philadelphia Phillies righty is an interleague date with the Chicago White Sox?at U.S. Cellular Field. Despite the homer-friendly venue, the Pale Hose are near the bottom when it comes to home run rate versus righties. Despite facing a DH, Eickhoff and his 27 percent ownership in ESPN leagues are in play for a spot start.Tyler Andersons 3.69 ERA is even more impressive when you consider that 10 of his 13 starts have been at Coors Field. Normally, a road game at Miller Park would be a big park downgrade for a pitcher, but for Anderson, its a relief. Especially if youre looking for whiffs, Anderson is a go versus the Milwaukee Brewers and their 24 percent punchout pace versus southpaws.Tyler Duffey is a risky start with the Detroit Tigers visiting Target Field, as hes vulnerable to big innings, but he has also turned in some outstanding efforts over the second half. On a docket with so many favorable matchups, the Minnesota Twins righty is a great DFS option for GPP tournaments.Opposing Duffey is Matt Boyd. Like his counterpart, the Tigers southpaw has mixed some solid efforts with a couple blow-ups. Boyd doesnt have the ceiling of Duffey, but he does have moderate strikeout upside.AvoidOnly Kendall Graveman falls in the automatic avoid range, with a projected Game Score of 45. That said, while Im not running to the waiver wire to pick him up, Im also not running away from using him if hes already on my roster. The Cleveland Indians are taking a big park hit, and without expecting the Oakland Athletics right-hander to repeat his 98-pitch, complete-game shutout effort on the road against the White Sox last time out, he has the ability to frustrate lineups.Wade Miley fell just outside the avoid range for his tilt at Nationals Park. The Washington Nationals offense has begun to click, so the safe play is to leave the Baltimore Orioles lefty on the pine.HittingOur hitting rankings feature only one club with a score above six: The Phillies check in at eight facing James Shields. After a stretch of solid efforts, Shields has returned to the home-run machine; he has served up nine gophers in his past three games. With the game in an AL venue, Ryan Howard should be in the lineup and is a threat to take Shields deep. Joining Howard as strong plays are Aaron Altherr, Maikel Franco, Tommy Joseph and Cameron Rupp, who is among the league leaders in hard contact and hits fifth in the order, much higher than most backstops.Power-hitting right-handers have feasted on Wade Miley this season, as 17 of the 20 homers the Orioles southpaw has allowed have come off the bat of righty swingers. This puts the right-handed contingent of the Washington Nationals in a great spot, led by Jayson Werth, Anthony Rendon, Wilson Ramos and Ryan Zimmerman. Even leadoff man Trea Turner is in play. The Marlins, already without Giancarlo Stanton, must now make do without Derek Dietrich, who was placed on the DL because of a right knee contusion. However, with Dillon Gee taking the Marlins Stadium hill, the Fish have ample bats to school the Royals righty. Christian Yelich is the main beneficiary enjoying the platoon edge, but dont sleep on Marcell Ozuna or J.T. Realmuto. Something to note is that Royals catcher Salvador Perez boasts one of the games top pop times and thus could curtail Dee Gordons running.Zach Davies certainly has opened some eyes, though his weakness is still getting lefty swingers out. The Colorado Rockies Charlie Blackmon, Carlos Gonzalez, David Dahl, Daniel Descalso and Ben Paulsen aim to continue the right-handers woes. Most likely to go deep: Anthony Rendon has 10 extra-base hits, including three homers over the past two weeks. Hes in excellent position to clear the fences again with Miley on the bump. Most likely to swipe a bag: Funny, no one is complaining that Jose Altuve?has only 26 pilfers. I wonder why. The Pirates are one of the easier clubs to run on, so look for Altuve to be on the move, assuming he gets only a single, instead of a homer.
