Dallas, TX (SportsNetwork.com) - Ondrej Pavelec was spectacular in net as he stopped 46 shots and the Winnipeg Jets held off a late surge from the Dallas Stars for a 2-1 win on Thursday. Evander Kane scored a short-handed goal and Michael Frolik also lit the lamp for the Jets, who were coming off a dominant 8-2 win over Florida on Tuesday. I felt good tonight, but its only one game, said Pavelec. It was big for me as well. I needed this one. Trevor Daleys marker made it a one-goal game with 1:16 remaining and Anders Lindback allowed both goals on 22 shots for the Stars, who have lost five of their last six games. Utter domination, but didnt finish great opportunities, Dallas head coach Lindy Ruff said. You have to give Pavelec a lot of credit, but at the same time our near misses should be in the back of the net. Early in the third period, Blake Wheelers stick caught Erik Cole up high in the corner and drew blood to bring about a four-minute Dallas power play. Less than a minute into the man advantage, Pavelec robbed Tyler Seguin with a glove save. It was Winnipeg, however, that scored on the extended power play as Kane took a turnover in the neutral zone, skated around Daley and had his wrist shot trickle through the pads of Lindback for a 2-0 game with 12:26 to play. Dallas pulled Lindback with over two minutes to play and got within a goal moments later as Daley ripped a shot short side from the left circle. Lindback went to the bench again in favor of the extra attacker, but the Stars were unable to force overtime. Mathieu Perreault skated from the right boards behind the net and slipped a pass to the slot, where Frolik wristed the puck home to start the scoring 3:53 into the game. The Stars threatened on the power play after Dustin Byfuglien went off for hooking 6:47 into the second, but Pavelec fought off six shots to keep the Jets in front. Pavelec seemed unstoppable in the middle stanza as he made another terrific save, denying Jamie Benns point-blank one-timer with under five minutes to play in the frame.
