Richard Mille RM 65-01 New in Blue and Yellow Quartz TPT
Just in time for summer in the Hamptons.
The Richard Mille RM 65-01 holds the undoubted distinction of being the most complicated regular production automatic watch in Richard Mille’s extremely complicated catalog. First introduced in 2020 with 600 parts, this Richard Mille complex split-second chronograph is the latest evolution of the collection and has proven popular. Recently, the reference was updated with two new colorways, with the light blue set to become a regular addition to the catalogue and the dark yellow limited edition.
Thin Ply Technology Of course, Richard Mille’s cases are often as complex as their movements, and this watch is no exception. The case is made from Quartz TPT (Thin Ply Technology), a high-tech material developed by North Thin Ply Technology that offers high heat resistance, strength, and electromagnetic transparency. This composite material is created by heating and pressure-forming layers of silica fibres that are saturated with resin to form a vivid yet strong material, originally developed for the RM27-02 Nadal.
Complex Movement The Quartz TPT case safely protects the RMAC4 movement, a masterpiece of a split-seconds chronograph equipped with not one, but six column wheels for incredibly smooth starting; this chronograph is capable of measuring up to 12 hours and offers a total power reserve of 60 hours. As is common with Richard Mille these days, it is equipped with a variable geometry rotor for the most efficient winding, depending on how active your wrist is.
Of course, if you really need to speed up the barrel, there is a ‘rapid winding’ function that, by repeated activation, allows you to wind the barrel faster. To be fair, most watches allow you to do this via the winding crown, but by giving this function its own pusher, the case design is made more balanced.
Richard Mille holds a special place in the world of watches, having successfully balanced its status as the ultimate status symbol with some truly impressive mechanics and innovations. That being said, the biggest highlight here is the new colors (the yellow is particularly gorgeous), which fit in perfectly with the brand.
