EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said Friday hes decided on a starting quarterback for Sundays game against the Tennessee Titans. Will it be Shaun Hill or Sam Bradford? I guess well find out on Sunday, Zimmer said. The Vikings coach was still not willing to reveal his starting quarterback on Friday as the Vikings finished preparations for their season opener against the Titans. The team traded a 2017 first-round pick and a conditional 2018 fourth-rounder to the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday for Bradford, who joined the team after Teddy Bridgewater tore multiple ligaments in his knee Aug. 30.As the Vikings tried to get Bradford up to speed in their offense, they listed Hill atop their depth chart. Offensive coordinator Norv Turner said Thursday the Vikings were trying to get both quarterbacks ready to play on Sunday, though he acknowledged the team would have to make more adjustments to the game plan if Bradford were to start, given his limited time in the offense.Shaun has run every third-down play we have in our package since two years ago, so not only the play going in, the speed of the third-down situation, the play getting called, lining up, the defense giving you (different looks), Turner said. Tennessee is a multiple-look defense; they give you a lot of different looks. So, there [are] a lot of things that are being processed that Shaun has been doing for two years, and Sam has been doing for four days. So, that would be a big part of it.Hill got the majority of first-team snaps during the brief open portions of Vikings practices on Monday and Wednesday, and the quarterbacks were splitting first-team snaps on Thursday.Asked on Friday if hed told the team who would start at quarterback against the Titans, Zimmer smirked and said, Maybe. The coach said hed talked with Bridgewater on Thursday, following the quarterbacks surgery in Dallas. Bridgewater, Zimmer said, was in good spirits and planned to be back in Minnesota in about a week to rehab. One of the things he said was he cant wait to get back here and be around the guys, Zimmer said. So, Im sure hell try to be around, but the most important thing him is to do the rehab and the things that he has to do. Hell be in the training room a lot, so guys will see him, and hes more than welcome in the meetings and all that. When Vikings general manager Rick Spielman was asked on ESPNs NFL Insiders on Friday if he believed it was valuable for the Vikings to keep their starting quarterback a secret, Spielman said, I think its extremely valuable. When you have to prepare for two quarterbacks, its a lot harder than to just prepare for one.Titans coach Mike Mularkey, though, didnt seem to be too concerned, saying all week he expected Bradford would start. I think they wouldnt give up a [first-round pick and a fourth-round pick] to have a guy sit very long, Mularkey said Wednesday. I just think he gives them a very good chance. Hes had a very good preseason. Really, both of the quarterbacks have had good preseasons, but I would anticipate that, and if he doesnt, its not going to change the way we prepare. ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Ask the streaking Seattle Mariners what the primary catalyst for their success has been over the past few weeks, and they wont say home runs or quality starting pitching.Theyll say its fun.Nelson Cruz and Kyle Seager homered to lead the Mariners past the Los Angeles Angels 2-1 on Wednesday night, extending their longest winning streak of the season to eight games. The surging Mariners moved within 1 1/2 games of Toronto for the second AL wild card, with Detroit the only team in between. This environment is really special right now, Seager said. It starts with (manager Scott Servais). Hes built this culture and its a lot of fun. They have the longest active streak in the majors.Guys are really confident, really happy and the energy is up, Servais said. Were just focusing on one game, thats the key. And then you get on the plane and youre thinking, just win the series. And you win the first couple and you think, why not sweep it? Thats kind of been our attitude.Cruz hit a go-ahead homer in the seventh off Jose Alvarez (1-3), his 37th of the season and fourth in four games. Hes very good at slowing the game down. Its almost to the point where it drives you crazy, like, lets go! But thats what he does; he slows it down, he executes pitches.Tom Wilhelmsen retired the next two batters. The bullpen was really solid tonight and they needed to be, Servais said. Theres not much room for error.Chacin came out of the Angels bbullpen to make his first start since Aug.dddddddddddd 21, in place of injured Tyler Skaggs. Chacin settled for a no-decision, limiting the Mariners to one run and three hits in six innings while striking out five.I think he commanded the sinker, changed speeds very well, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. And for a guy who hadnt started very well, he threw six strong innings against a team who has been hitting the ball well.Since losing five straight starts through June and July, Chacin is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA as a starter.Chacin might need to make another start in place of Skaggs. An MRI revealed no damage to his surgically repaired elbow, but Skaggs will be out at least a week.
