Birmingham, Ala. --?Twenty-five current and former Southeastern Conference student-athletes participated in the first SEC Corporate Career Tour in Atlanta Nov. 29-Dec. 1. The event was held in conjunction with the 2016 SEC Fall Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting. The group visited the headquarters and met with executives and talent acquisition staff at several corporations in the Atlanta area including Chick-fil-A, Boys & Girls Club of America, CNN/Turner Broadcasting System and Jackson Spalding. The group also listened to presentations by Serviam Partners President Randy Hain, Growing Leaders, and former SEC student-athletes Ben Troupe and Josh Foliart on leadership and life after sports.I had tons of fun on the SEC Career Tour, said Arkansas track and field athlete Taliyah Brooks. I was exposed to different types of careers and businesses that I would not have the opportunity to visit and learn more about had it not been for the SEC. One of the key takeaways from this trip came from Chick-fil-A, where we were told to be remarkable. Wake up, tell yourself you will be remarkable today, and you can achieve anything. We are thankful to the SEC for allowing us this opportunity. The Fall Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) meeting provided a unique first time experience for meeting participants. The meeting focused on facilitating a corporate career tour as a part of the SEC Career Academy. Job opportunities and advice were introduced to student-athletes seeking career options and exposure.Said Thomas Mayronne of the South Carolina mens tennis team: As a current student athlete at the University of South Carolina, the SEC Corporate Tour Event offered an incredible opportunity to get in front of four major U.S. corporations and learn how each of these choose to operate. One aspect that each company shared, was that of the importance of an intentionally built culture. Within all of our sports, each athlete who attended was able to recognize either consciously or subconsciously that their team had a specific culture; and that this culture directly contributes to success not only in the business world but also our individual teams. The attendees included Alabamas Nicole Morales (womens golf) and Zac Rogers (baseball); Arkansas Taliyah Brooks (womens track and field) and Kody Walker (football); Auburns Beatriz Travalon (womens swimming and diving); Floridas Morgan Frazier (gymnastics) and Natalie Hines (womens swimming and diving); Georgias Quintunya Chapman (womens track and field) and Jimmy Hicks (mens track and field/cross country); Kentuckys Danielle Galyer (womens swimming and diving); LSUs Mikiah Brisco (womens track and field) and Logan Rysemus (mens swimming and diving); Ole Miss Alexandra Schneider (softball) and Michael Hilton (football); Mississippi States Blaise Carabello (womens golf) and Charles Taylor (mens track and field); Missouris Lauren Aldridge (womens basketball) and LeRoy Barnes (wrestling); South Carolinas Kaylea Snaer (softball) and Thomas Mayronne (mens tennis); Tennessees Patricia Forrester (womens swimming and diving); Texas A&Ms Sarah Shaw (soccer) and Kohl Anderson (mens track and field); and Vanderbilts Darreon Herring (football) and Delando Crooks (football).
