All roads cleared for the King of all remakes - July 18, 2007
Just when one thought that Ramgopal Varma Ki Sholay was on its way to an unhindered release came the Sippy grandsons, lawsuit in hand, demanding that the movie never be allowed to release. Long drawn court battles and a concomitant change in the title of the movie the dust storm looks to have settled, at least for the time being.
As we had reported earlier the new Sholay will be called Ramgopal Varma Ki Aag. But that’s not only the name that has been changed. The mean and menacing Gabbar Singh will now be called Babban Singh, Basanti will be called Ghungroo and Jai will be called Jai Ranade. It looks like the grandson’s of the original producer were very particular that nothing in the new version should be ripped off the original (except the storyline of course).
The Delhi high court, after hearing the arguments from both the sides, decided to give the go ahead for the release of the movie and asked the Sippy’s to come up with a fresh lawsuit if they deemed it necessary after watching the movie and deciding whether it was a straight rip off their historic home production. So, it’s official. Ramgopal Verma’s Aag will release and all scores will be settled later. We will get to see the movie!
You've been seeing Shamita Shetty swinging to 'Mindblowing mahiya'. You thought the name of the film is Cash. Now, start relating to the song afresh. The film has run into title trouble and will be renamed.
Controversies surrounding director Anubhav Sinha's latest film Cash, starring Ajay Devgan, Riteish Deshmukh, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty, just refuse to die down. The tiff between producers of the film Sohail Makhlai and Anish Ranjan is far from getting resolved. Problems started when Sohail Makhalia's name was unceremoniously dropped from the film's credit list. Makhlai has now refused to sign on the consent papers for the censor certification till he is given due credit for his contribution in the film.
That's the latest about the much talked about Cash which stars Ajay Devgan and a host of other stars. According to a source close to producer Anish Ranjan he has finally decided to change the name of the much beleaguered film from Cash to Anubhav Sinha's Cash . When contacted about the change in title, director Anubhav Sinha said, "Anish is the best person to talk about this." Meanwhile a source reveals, "Anish claims that he will not be held to ransom by anybody."
While Anish himself declined to comment saying the case was subjudice, the same source revealed, "If Sohail had come to him and asked him for certain things he might have even agreed, but if he insists on holding Anish and the cast and crew to ransom then Anish has no option but to do things legally, and Sohail will be the loser. Since he is not ready to sign on the application for the censor certificate, Anish has now changed the name of the film from Cash to Anubhav Sinha's Cash . In fact, he has already registered the new title. Frankly, it makes no difference to the film since everybody already knows the film as Anubhav's film. Sohail can keep the original title to himself. In fact, Anish is getting all the publicity material changed to incorporate the new title. What's more, he's now going to file a defamation case against Sohail claiming damages worth 10 crores."
Asked about Sohail's insistence that his name be put in the credits of the film, the source reveals, "To tell you the truth, Anish is already putting Sohail's name in the film. Let him see that Anish has no problems even now that he has changed the name of the film. Even though he doesn't need to put Sohail's name now, he is still doing so. That I think says it all."
The ball now is in Sohail's court. Will he extend the olive leaf?
Actress Kareena Kapoor will be seen in the sequel to Rohit Shetty's laughathon GOLMAAL, titled GOLMAAL RETURNS. The sequel stars Ajay Devgan, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor.

The first of her next three films is GOLMAAL RETURNS. Its shooting will commence in November in Dubai, while the other two films are still in the scripting stages.
Director Devgan's 2nd schedule of U, ME AUR HUM - July 19, 2007
Ajay Devgan's capabilities as a director were first noticed when he shot a brilliant promo of Gordhan Tanwani's Anees Bazmee directed, PYAR TO HONA HI THA (1998). Apart from himself, it featured his wife Kajol, with Remo's rocking title track playing in the background. It became obvious that Ajay would sooner or later take the plunge, officially.
However, it was only in 2007, that Ajay announced his directorial debut movie, U, ME AUR HUM. The first 20-day schedule was held abroad on a luxury cruise liner. And now the second shooting schedule of Devgan Films' U, ME AUR HUM, commenced at Bombay's Filmistan studio recently and is continuing at a hectic pace.
Featuring Ajay, Kajol, Divya Dutta, Sumeet Raghavan, Karan Khanna and Isha Sharavani, U, ME AUR HUM has music by Vishal Bhardwaj and lyrics by Munna Dhiman.
Kumar Mangat, whose film "Omkara" catapulted him to the position of one of Bollywood's leading producers, says he prefers to fund subjects that would get national awards.
"I don't produce films for just money. My aim is to fund films which will give me revenues as well as earn me respect," Mangat, who first produced the Ajay Devgan-Kajol starrer "Dil Kya Kare" in 1999, told IANS. "I'm eyeing scripts that would get national awards and also win accolades globally," he added.
Mangat tasted success in the industry with "Omkara", Bollywood's take on William Shakespeare's classic tragedy "Othello", which fetched rave reviews and critical acclaim and caused film distributor Eros International's annual profit to jump.
"I loved the script of 'Omkara'. It was a very different script, which Bollywood had never worked on. I knew it would do well and as expected it worked wonders and since then I have decided to produce at least one different film in a year apart from funding the regular commercial movies," said Mangat.
Mangat is currently producing six films -- "No Smoking" directed by Anurag Kashyap with John Abraham and Ayesha Takia in lead roles, "Sunday" that stars his favourite Ajay Devgan, "Haal-e-Dil" which is the launch-pad of his daughter Aneeta Pathak, "1,2,3", "Rangeen" and "Bubblegum". Mangat is excited about the subject of his forthcoming release "No Smoking", scheduled to hit the theatres Sep 14.
"It is a thriller about a chain smoker who quits smoking under alarming circumstances. Our intension is not to lecture people to quit smoking but I'm sure after seeing what the character goes through and how his life affects the lives of everyone around him, some people will quit smoking," he said.
He added that "Sunday", expected to release Oct 18, is a big budget thriller with scoops of comedy layered into the plot. The film, which has been shot in Delhi, uses the name of a character as the movie's title. "Haal-e-Dil", which will be released Dec 22, is a romantic movie that revolves around three characters - two boys and a girl.
Cash has now been re-titled as Anubhav Sinha's Cash. As per reliable sources, the decision was arrived at yesterday in wake of the constant imbroglio between the producers of the film Anish Ranjan and Sohail Maklai. One is in store for a surprise on contacting the film's director Anubhav Sinha. The director of Dus and Tum Bin shoots back a question to you right away, "Is it about a controversy?", albeit in a light vein. On being told that it is about looking at putting all controversies at rest, he eases up. "Yes, the issues finally seem to be settling down. We are going full steam with the promotion of the film and are all set to arrive on 27th July." Err.., 27th July? Some media reports indicate that there is still some patchwork renaming for the film? "All false", he reacts, "Even the animation work, which was one of the major decisions we took during the post production of the film, has been completed 10 days back. So where is the question of anything remaining in the film? I don't know from where and how these rumors originate. The first copy of the film is out and I would be showing it to the Censors today. Currently, I am in Hyderabad looking at the film's mixing." In fact, Anubhav is also bumping into Ram Gopal Varma too often since he too is stationed in the same hotel at Hyderabad while shooting for Sarkar Raj. Incidentally, Ramu is just out of a court battle and his film has finally been titled Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag. Bringing the conversation to the film's music, one can't help but congratulate Anubhav for the response that the latest track 'Naughty Naughty' has got. Laughs Anubhav, "We had to do something innovative here. Believe me, shooting a song in one take, that too with so many actors, is not an easy job. Thankfully we all managed to pull it off well. We should be coming out 'Reham Kare' and 'Naa Poochho' soon. Though I hear the music is doing well today, I am sure the album would grow further once these songs are on air and the film releases at theaters. Vishal and Shekhar have done a phenomenal job yet again after Dus." On contacted, producer Anish Ranjan was far more vocal about the controversies surrounding the film. "I am happy that things have finally been resolved and I hold the rights now. It was a journey with its own roadblocks and hindrances but all focus is now on 27th July when the film releases. Still, one can't help but make an observation that Sohail Maklai has behaved like a kid. Though I don't hold any personal grievances against Sohail, for someone who has been in the industry for last few years, it was just uncalled for when one looks at it professionally." Why, what happened? "He doesn't believe in law, simple! As a self styled person, he throughout behaved to be over and above everything and everyone else. When trouble began around 'who controls the film', he suddenly started terminating everyone from the contract, whether it was me or Anubhav. Thankfully in the end, none of that impacted the film reaching it's finishing line since today I stay on to be the film's producer while Anubhav is the director. Still, Sohail's name would feature as the film's producer in the credits since he should not be deprived of that," explains Anish, the man behind films as diverse as 'Dil Pe Mat Le Yaar', 'Dansh' and upcoming 'Kabootar'. He laughs, "I guess apart from the President of India, he had possibly terminated everyone else around him. It was all so childish. It was like our younger days when a kid who owned the bat, once being declared out, simply ended the game and ran away from the filed while depriving everyone else of the game."
The hit Jodi of Vishal and Shekhar, who have given music for films like Jhankar beats and Bluffmaster have come up yet again with great music for Cash. And that's not all, with the music of CASH they are back with the team of Dus. Now, don't forget that Dus Bahane was one of their biggest hits. After the bad reviews of the music of TA RA RUM PUM, Vishal and Shekhar are back to doing what they are best at, Techno, Hip Hip, RnB, Pop with a desi tadka of Bhangra.
London Dreams which was supposed to be directed by filmmaker Rajkumar Santoshi has not been shelved. Santoshi had moved on and decided not do direct the film, but producer P.J. Singh has not really shelved the film. In fact, Salman Khan, who is one of the main leads has asked filmmaker Vipul Shah to direct the film. London Dreams is about two childhood friends, who struggle to become rock stars in London. It stars Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan in main lead.
According to Vipul Shah, Salman has asked him to direct London Dreams. Vipul has asked for the script and is yet to go through it, only then will he decide if he would direct the film.
Producer P. J. Singh however seems unhappy over Santoshi’s announcement of the film being shelved. Singh says that London dreams is not shelved and that he will finalize everything once he is back in town.
From today, we would start a special countdown for much awaited CASH which releases all over on 27th July.
Did you know that CASH also includes the elements of air, water and land woven intro the script? Well, the action theme of the film required to have three lead protagonists to make one of the most-impossible sounding theft come true on screen. This is the reason why each of them is shown to possess special skills that make them rule over air, water and land!
Hence Ajay Devgan, who leads the bunch, is shown to be at his best when he makes his way out of thin air (pun intended) through his stunts in the air. Expect all around fireworks here as Anubhav Sinha brings to screen some of the most unbelievable stunts ever filmed in Bollywood.
Same holds good for Zayed Khan who is at his charming best when traversing his way out of water, regardless of the trickiest of situations. Numerous action sequences featuring him riding on high speed boats should go down well with his boyish persona.
Last but not the least is the character of Ritiesh Deshmukh who could put the word road rage to shame. An expert when it comes to escaping on roads, he has his roller skates handy all the time to beat the best of the cars in the business.
Ajay, Zayed and Riteish in air, water and land along with beauties like Esha Deol, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty! Well, God couldn't have created a better paradise on earth!
Rajkumar Santoshi has done it again. The filmmaker, who is known for shelving projects even before they begin, has announced that he has 'shelved' Salman Khan-Ajay Devgan starrer London Dreams. The story revolves around two childhood friends who struggle to become rock stars in London.
What Santoshi seems to have forgotten is that he cannot shelve the film considering that he was only directing, and not producing, it.
It is believed that Salman is keen to launch the musical and is also helping the film's producer P J Singh to find a new director. Reportedly, Salman has asked Vipul Shah to direct the film and has even spoken to him about it.
Sources say that Salman was happy with Vipul's work and had expressed his desire to work with him. Vipul too had been trying to work out a project with Salman. When things did not work out with Santoshi, Salman called Vipul and discussed the subject with him.
Vipul Shah says, "Yes, it is true that Salman called me over and asked me if I would be interested in directing London Dreams. I have asked for the film's script and will be going through it soon. I have no problem directing it if I like the script."
When asked about the film's final cast, Shah says, "I have no clue about the film. Let me first go through the script and then I will decide on the other details."
P. J. Singh says, "I don't know why Santoshi has gone ahead and said that he has shelved the film. The film is not shelved from my side as I already have too much at stake. However, I am out of town right now and will finalise everything once I am back."
After Shah Rukh Khan’s turn as Emperor Asoka, Ajay Devgan will now wear the great Indian Emperor’s crown in Raj Kumar Santoshi’s as-yet-untitled period film. Santoshi, who is currently finishing post-production work on his upcoming film Halla Bol, says, “We haven’t finalised the title as yet, but yes, Ajay has agreed to play Ashoka. As for Ajay, he is very excited. In fact, he says “This script is by far the best he had heard in all these years.”
Cash director investigates Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination - July 20, 2007
Anubhav Sinha, director of films like Tum Bin,Dus, Tathastu and Cash, with a small team has reportedly been researching the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi for months and claims to have come across some startling and so far unknown facts. It may be recalled that Rajiv Gandhi was blown apart by an LTTE suicide bomber at Sriperumbudur near Chennai. Sinha calls his film a “celluloid investigation of Rajiv Gandhi’s assassination, tackling questions that were never asked, let alone answered.”
Kareena Kapoor to play the lead female in the sequel of 'Golmaal' - July 21, 2007
Kareena Kapoor to play the lead female in the sequel of 'Golmaal'. The film is titled 'Golmaal Returns'. Obviously it will be another laugh riot. The shooting will start in Dubai for a 40-day schedule. "Yes, we have roped in Kareena for the sequel of Golmaal, which will be directed by Rohit Shetty," confirms Producer Dhillin Mehta.
Kareena’s Rs. 6 crores three film contract and ‘Golmaal Returns’ sequel - July 21, 2007
Recently there was a lot of talk about Kareena Kapoor being down an out on her film career , however now the sprightly gal has proved everyone wrong as she has reportedly signed a three film contract with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision production house. Reportedly Kareena will be paid a whooping Rs. 6 crores for the three film deal and this amount apparently puts her in the range of highest paid actresses in bollywood. Kareena will also be doing the comedy sequel ‘Golmaal Returns’.
Kareena Kapoor is reportedly being paid Rs. 6 cores for three films, which means that she is getting a cool Rs. 2 crores per film. With this rate per film, Kareena moves into the league of highest paid actresses like Aishwarya Rai etc. Kareena will do three films with Ashtavinayak productions and one of the films is the sequel to the comedy Golmaal. Kareena will star in ‘Golmaal Returns’, a comic caper which will also star Ajay Devgan, Tushaar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Arshad Warsi. Kareena has already starred opposite Ajay in Omkara which was a hit. However Sharman Joshi will no longer be a part of the film but instead Shreyas will replace him.
Producer of Golmaal, Dhillin Mehta confirms the news saying “Yes, we have roped in Kareena for the sequel of Golmaal which will be directed by Rohit Shetty.” The first part Golmaal was a hit comic caper and everyone is hopeful that the sequel too will be as big a hit. The film will be shot in Dubai. Meanwhile Kareena is already currently doing a film with the same production house, a film that is being directed by Imtiaz Ali and she stars opposite real life beau Shahid Kapoor. Recently Shahid and Kareena were shooting in Manali for this film, when director Imtiaz Ali decided to shoot a song sequence at Rohtang Pass which is at an altitude of 13,400 feet. At first the entire cast and crew were excited but when they reached the location, both Shahid and Kareena began feeling dizzy. They were uncomfortable as the high altitude led to less oxygen which was making them feel a bit dizzy. So the director decided to postpone the shoot till the actors were comfortable. Kareena will also be doing a Karan Johar film Tashan for which she has lost a lot of weight , so it seems that once more despite a year long break from bollywood Kareena has managed to jump right back into the fray of things.
