"Cash" is all about loads of bikes, action, stunts and music. Directed by Anubhav Sinha, the soundtrack of the movie has been composed by Vishal and Shekhar who haven't really put their skills to good use. Only two numbers make their mark.
The power packed title track of "Cash" catches on to listeners instantly. Rendered by Vishal and Shekhar along with Sunidhi Chauhan, it is an assortment of foot-tapping beats and rushing music. Sunidhi's expertise in this genre of music is clearly evident as her passionate voice gives the track the push to make it a success. All this and more has made the number an instant success.
"Mind-blowing mahiya" isn't as mind-blowing as the title suggests. If the song does rake in any moolah, it would be all because of how well Sunidhi's seductive vocals gel with Vishal-Shekhar's music.
An average track, "Mind-blowing mahiya" starts off with a musical composition of beats and then proceeds to the vocals by Sunidhi and ends up to be only a nice party number.
"Naa puchho" continues with the trend of slightly below average numbers being belted out in the soundtrack of "Cash". Lacking that punch to get the track going, the excitement in the song fizzles out in no time. It sees the pairing up of Vishal and Sunidhi, the latter being the only reason if the song survives long. In short, it's a job not done too well.
Sunidhi and Vishal continue their pairing in "Rehem kare", which finally shows the audience that Vishal-Shekhar haven't lost it all as yet. A lot of things seems to be going well for this track including the foot-tapping beats, lyrics, variety in terms of music as well as the plus point of the album, Sunidhi.
"Naughty naughty" sees the absence of Sunidhi as the 'Viva' girl, Anushka Manchandani, takes over from her. Rendering her voice to the kind of music that suits her the best, "Naughty naughty" is an attempt by the composers in making it an R&B number with a lot of Indian elements being thrown in. Anushka gives her all to the track and you can sense the passion in her voice. It is another dance track.
"Zara bachke" fizzles out like "Naa puchho". With nuances that suggest the track could have hit diamonds, "Zara bachke" just doesn't seem to hold your interest. Vishal's lyrics do not impress while Anushka's vocals seem dead. While the music is still commendable to a small extent, the track just lacks the magic to make it a chartbuster.
"Cash" doesn't offer variety in terms of singers. Saving the day for the composer duo Shekhar was Sunidhi and, of course, some credit can be given to the composer's music too. Yet, the album could have done much better.
A report that Salman Khan has taken the proposed Raj Santoshi-Salman project London Dreams to another filmmaker, Vipul Shah, has Santoshi perplexed and exasperated.
Says Santoshi, "As far as I'm concerned I'm still directing London Dreams. The producer has told me that they are working out the dates for the film. Beyond that I wouldn't know anything. Like I said I'm just the film's director. I'm not aware of any developments (regarding Salman's meeting with Vipul). Just like everyone else I read about it. Nobody has spoken to me about London Dreams going to someone else."
Vipul Shah however, confirms that Salman did approach him with the project. "Though I haven't confirmed as yet Salman did give me the script of London Dreams to read.
But it isn't something I can take up overnight. I'd like to meet Mr Santoshi before I take a decision. There're several production issues that need to be sorted out before I take a call."
When told that Santoshi is unaware of the developments behind his back Vipul is gracious enough to concede, "Then there's no question of my doing London Dreams. He's directing it because it's his baby."
48 hours to go and it will be crystal clear how much 'cash' is CASH en route to earn! Nevertheless, are you aware that there is a DOC in the film? No, this character is not a doctor! Instead he is a conman who also goes by the name of Karan.
He is Ajay Devgan, the lead protagonist of the film.
As an ace thief and a master conman, he has numerous aliases to his credit as he lives dangerously in the world of crime. While his girlfriend [Shamita Shetty] is hardly aware about his real identity and knows him as Karan, for his team he is DOC.
In CASH he masterminds a 'perfect heist' which turns really wrong due to him being double crossed. What he does to reverse the fortunes (pun intended) forms the crux of this Anubhav Sinha thriller.
Most film buffs in the city are going to be disappointed as this week's only Hindi release, Cash, may not make its way to the theatres this Friday. Sohail Maklai, who owns the right of the title of the film, is yet to submit the required documents to the Censor Board and if he doesn't meet the procedure by tomorrow afternoon the film will get delayed.
Maklai filed a case against Seven Entertainment on July 20 alleging that the latter had failed to comply with clause 9 of the agreement, which allows him to get credit as a producer of the film. But Anish Ranjan of Seven Entertainment insists that after the arbitration order was passed on July 16 (Maklai had filed a case against Adlabs stating that Adlabs did not have the right over the film) all hoardings after July 16 and print publicity have Maklai's name as the producer.
Ranjan explains, "Sohail is doing all this only to sabotage the release. He knows time is precious for us but he went and filed a case against us last Friday so that we lose three more days. We are already losing Rs 7 crore even before the release of the film and Maklai is liable for the losses as per the agreement, which he does not want to own up to. We will not be able to recover our losses unless we release the film."
When asked if Maklai did wish for an out of court settlement, Ranjan said, "Yes he told us that he would withdraw all cases against us if we agree to pay him a certain amount of money." He further adds, "The release of the film now depends upon Maklai. If he submits the required papers to the Censor Board by tomorrow we will be able to release the film on Friday. But we will not be able to release the film in UK, as the film needs to get a separate Censor certificate."
Regional Officer of the Censor Board of Film Certification, Vinayak Azad says, "I have been verbally told by members from the film production company that everything is in place. But I'm yet to receive a formal copy of the order, which needs to be studied after which I will take a decision."
'Cash' is certainly coming this Friday - Anubhav Sinha - July 25, 2007
It is less than 48 hours to go for the release of 'Cash' but rumor mongers are having a field day building stories about the film. The latest one making the rounds is that the film has been postponed further by a week. This would mean that instead of coming this Friday, which is an open week, 'Cash' would instead clash with Anil Kapoor produced and Akshaye Khanna starrer 'Gandhi My Father' at the box office. Here is an official word from the man at the hot seat, Anubhav Sinha, himself. "Not true", says Anubhav, "The film is certainly coming day after tomorrow, no two thoughts about this." But why such inflow of rumors time and again? "I don't know, really", he says with a shrug, "I have maintained all this while that July 27th is the D-day. Still, if people out there want to speculate about this, I can't help it, right?" Tell him the film's music is carrying good buzz now and he says, "I was confident about the score by Vishal Shekhar. It was just a matter of time before the score started getting appreciated by 'junta'. I am quite sure that once the film hits the screens, the music is only going to move further up the charts." For the uninitiated, while the music videos of title song of 'Cash', 'Mindblowing Mahiya' and 'Naughty Naughty' are already on the air, the ones for 'Reham Kare' and 'Naa Poocho' would hit the small screen soon too. Meanwhile 'Zara Bachke Ji' is already being used extensively for the film's promos and is garnering good response.
There was fallout between the producers of this Friday’s release Cash even when the movie was on the floors.
‘Cash’ features Ajay Devgan , Sunil Shetty , Zayed Khan , Ritesh Deshmukh , Esha Deol , Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty . The film is an action packed thriller directed by Anubhav Sinha . But during the making of the film, there was a spat and fallout between its producers Anish Ranjan and Sohail Maklai.
Anish apparently had the support of the film’s director, and the duo conveniently dropped Sohail Maklai from the project. Maklai’s name was also removed from the film’s credits.
But problems began when Sohail filed a legal case against the film’s presenters ADLABS, demanding recognition in the film’s credits. Sohail had an upper hand because the movie’s title ‘Cash’ was registered in the name of his company Essem Entertainment.
Anish Ranjan and ADLABS relented and Maklai’s name was reportedly included in the film’s publicity material from July 16 onward. But Maklai still doesn’t seem to be cooperating with them.
Just days before the film’s release, he still has to submit some important papers to Censor Board after which the film would be able to release on July 27.
The producers are hoping that the film releases this Friday, otherwise they would have to incur a huge loss of cash.
‘Earn money the hard way…Steal It,’ goes the punchline of Cash , an action packed thriller by director Anubhav Sinha . The film has a very kaleidoscopic star cast.
Ajay Devgan as Karan/Doc He is the ace thief and conman who has got as many perfect crimes to his credit as he has aliases. If his team knows him as Doc, his girlfriend loves him as Karan. And what he imagines to be the perfect heist will be the perfect double cross that will have Karan fighting for money, his love and even his life.
Sunil Shetty as Angad Angad was always a criminal. There was a time when he was loyal and trustworthy. But years in jail changed that. Now he is angry, bitter and thirsting for revenge. His vendetta will annihilate anything and anyone who dares to cross his path.
Zayed Khan as Danny/DJ DJ loves to battle the waves and challenge the seas. Once he and his buddy Lucky would have given their lives for each other, but now they hate each other to death.
Ritesh Deshmukh as Lucky He is the happy-go-lucky guy who can race like the wind. Nobody can catch him once he is on the run. He has earned Pooja’s love and Danny’s hate, but then, that’s another story.
Esha Deol as Pooja On the face of it, Pooja is a sexy nightclub dancer. To her gang she is the super get-away woman whose car just happens to be in the right place at the right time.
Shamita Shetty as Shania She is smart and savvy. That’s why the government has given her the tough job of guarding a diamond. But she doesn’t know that the man she loves is the one from whom she would have to guard the diamond.
Dia Mirza as Aditi She believes in love trust and loyalty. And she has given her heart to a master criminal. She’s the conduit who weaves the different strands of the heist. And she is the one who will do her best to save the situation when it threatens to spiral out of control.
Storyline:
The film tells the story of an ace conman who hires a bunch of robbers to carry out a perfect heist of priceless diamonds in South Africa. On the other hand is a vengeful underworld don who is hell-bent on getting his hands on the diamonds. And then there are also those who have been given the responsibility of the security of the diamonds.
What follows is a daring heist. But things go horribly wrong after that. There is a murder, double cross and treachery. Things boil to such a point that the winner will take the diamonds but the loser may have to lose his or her life.
‘Cash’ has cinematography by Ravi Wali and music by Vishal and Shekhar. The movie is set to release on July 27.
The stars of the movie Cash paid a visit to the Capital for the launch of a jewellery store and to promote their latest movie, totally unaware that it's not releasing any time soon.
MUMBAI: The impending judgment on the on-going court case on Adlabs' Cash is finally out. The release of the film has been postponed by a week. The film, which was due for release this week (27 July), will finally release next week on 3 August.
Moreover, the dispute over the title of the film with producer Sohail Maklai has also been passed in favour of director Anubhav Sinha and the movie's name will not be changed.
Speaking to Businessofcinema.com, Adlabs COO Sunir Khetrapal says, "The film was censored today and will release on 3 August now."
Sinha, who was present at the censor screening when Businessofcinema.com contacted him, added. "The court has ordered to release the film as soon we like."
The film has been given a U/A certificate without any cuts and the censor certificate will be delivered tomorrow.
"Since we are releasing the film one week later than planned, it will not have its planned two week run at theatres. Cash will have a one week run before Chak De! India releases on 10 August. We will have to pump in extra money in the coming 10 days for the promotion of the film," Sinha says.
Mumbai, July 26 (IANS) An on-going financial and legal tussle between the producers of the Anubhav Sinha-directed "Cash" has taken its toll on the slick flick's release, delaying it by a week - from July 27 to Aug 3.
One of the producers, Anish Ranjan, told IANS: "It's a big blow for us. We had selected July 27 because we had two clear weeks (advantage), what with Pritish Nandy Communications 'Bow Barracks Forever' releasing on July 27 and Anil Kapoor's 'Gandhi My Father' falling into an entirely different genre. Now with the film releasing on Aug 3, one precious week is lost. The publicity and posters for this Friday's release were on full throttle.
"Now we'll have to start again next week. We've also lost our chain of theatres this week."
"Cash", starring Ajay Devgan, Zayed Khan and Riteish Deshmukh, was cleared by the censor board earlier this week with a UA certificate. However, the film can only be released as per the new schedule after the court's clearance.
Hassled and tired, director Anubhav Sinha said: "The last week has been an ordeal. We've been in and out of court trying to get 'Cash' released on time. Unfortunately, we couldn't make it this Friday. Never mind. Next week we'll be on, and all the stress would be vindicated."
Will it make it on 27th July? Or will it be shifted ahead? The suspense has finally ended. Since the past few days, the topic of discussion in the industry was – will CASH make it on the scheduled date? In fact, this writer was inundated with calls from distributors and exhibitors, enquiring about the release date.
Till Wednesday morning [25th July], the censors hadn’t watched the film. But the censor screening took place on Wednesday evening. “The censors have passed the film with UA certificate, without cuts,” director Anubhav Sinha divulged.
CASH has been pushed ahead by one week. “The film will now hit the screens on 3rd August, not this Friday [27th July],” Sunir Khetarpal of Adlabs told this writer. So, it’s CASH versus GANDHI MY FATHER versus NAYA DAUR [colored version] next Friday.
'Anubhav Sinha's Cash' gets back its original title 'Cash' and is now postponed by a week to August 3. The makers give the real picture
It's final. 'Cash' would now be coming a week later and eventually release on 3rd August. Other development is regarding the film's title which is back to 'Cash'. This means that it would no more be 'Anubhav's Sinha's Cash', as seemed to be the case till a few days back.
"And I am so happy about it", shoots Anubhav who is visibly tired with all the running around at courts and censor office. "It would have been so pompous to name a film like this. Ramu can do it since he has number of hits under his belt, I cannot since I still have some way to go", says the soft spoken director.
For the uninitiated, 'Cash' has been in trouble, especially since last few weeks, due to dispute between Anish Ranjan, film's producer and Sohail Maklai who had earlier begun work on the film. Till yesterday, the two were making rounds of the court w.r.t. holding rights over the film.
Anish Ranjan is furious though he keeps his emotions in control while speaking about the entire issue. "I won't deny that the film coming next week would not incur losses for us. What Sohail has done is surely going to get him in jail. He has done contempt against court by not presenting the documents to us which were required to be submitted to the Censors. He was instructed by court to do it and we waited till late yesterday evening for that."
Isn't it sad for Anubhav to be involved in something like this when he could have used this quality time to promote his film further? Says an exasperated Anubhav, "Kya karen? It is indeed sad. It is just not a happy moment to be encountering the very same person (Sohail) in court corridors with whom you were once making a movie together. All this while I have never been to a High Court but now I am forced to do that."
What happens now? "The film gets delayed, simple. Even though Censors have passed the film as U/A with zero cuts, the certificate can be issued only after the required documents are submitted by Sohail. Court had asked him to do that but he has made everyone wait. In fact he was also in the extortion mood by asking for certain obscene amount of money. We of course decided not to bow down to such unreasonable and unethical demands. We would rather have the film come a week late and fight it out in the court rather than take something like this lying down", fumes Anish.
How hopeful is he now that the film would come on August 3rd. Anish composes himself while replying, "I am not just hopeful but quite positive that 'Cash' would now make it next week. I am sure we would get all the documents today post which we would get censor certificate. We would then start dispatching the film's prints in the overseas market. Meanwhile I would make sure that Sohail gets back what he has done to us. There have been so many third parties with big money involved. For all the financial losses, mental anguish and harassment we have faced, he would be dragged further in the court of law. I would sue him with such a huge figure that he would end up having his properties detached and spend considerable number of years in jail."
Isn't he looking at pacifying since the film is finally hitting the marquee? Explains Anish, "It is all about taking accountability of the wrongs that you have done. If I have done something wrong, question me, argue with me. Same holds good for you too. Agar tumne kuch galat kiya hai to uska nateeja tum dekhoge hi."
With the solo release advantage going away, doesn't it become difficult for 'Cash' to make the same kind of money on its 3rd August release? "We don't have a choice but to increase the prints. Thankfully the buzz around the movie is quite strong and hence we are confident that the film would open quite well. Earlier we had 700-800 prints worldwide. Now we will come up with an even higher number. I am actually genuinely feeling sorry for 'My Father Gandhi' (another film that comes on 3rd August). I wanted that film to work and I hope it will. The only factor is that earlier it too was the sole major release of the week but now it would have 'Cash' for competition."
Anubhav confirms, "Yes, we are looking at 650 odd prints just in India. It is going to be a huge release. I have been told by distributors that they are anticipating a much bigger and better response than 'Dus'. Also the economics have changed in last two years and the scale and canvas of 'Cash' is such that it should rake in good moolah."
So what is his plan of action from hereon? "Catch a breather", he exhales, "It has been a crazy last fortnight for all of us. Now it would be good to concentrate on upping the film's promotion. We can use this to our advantage and make sure that 'Cash' is everywhere. I am taking an extra week as a blessing in disguise!"
Gabbar Singh may have become Babban while Veeru may have become Heeru in RAM GOPAL VARMA KE AAG. Also their looks may have gone through a complete change. Still one character that continues to be closest to the original is none other than that of Soorma Bhopali.
Originally enacted by Jagdeep, the role of Soorma Bhopali is now being played Rajpal Yadav. Though the character's name has changed to Rambha Bhai, what is surely going to catch your eye is the fact that Rajpal has been given entirely the same look as Jagdeep.
Whether it is the trademark moustache, dress or the mannerisms, everything seems to be straight out of the original classic which is bound to make audience nostalgic about the old times.
Postponing of CASH may have proved to be a spanner in our daily countdown for the film. Nevertheless, this by no means has deterred the makers of the film from going all out on the film's promotional campaign.
Even as the film now comes on 3rd August instead of originally planned release of 27th July, promotion of yet another item song in the film, 'Reham Kare', would be kick started beginning this Sunday.
Confirms Anubhav Sinha, director of CASH, "All this while there had been queries in abundance around the number 'Reham Kare'. I have been informed that after listening to the soundtrack, audience has been waiting for 'Reham Kare' to hit the screens. I hope the song lives up the expectations since I have tried doing something different in the way the song has been picturised."
What's so special? "It isn't something that at least I have seen in a music video before. It cannot be actually explained in words since there are lots of graphics involved. The song gives an impression of being shot at the terrace of a 40 story building with sky scrapers all around. You have to see it to believe it. It has got a night setting. The song has been picturised on Brazilian dancer/model Bruna who has done a sensational job."
A club track with a lounge flavor to it, 'Reham Kare' has a dark-n-sensuous feel to it, something that was last visible in 'Aaj Ki Raat' (DON) last year. Composed by Vishal-Shekhar and written by Panchhi Jalonvi, the song incorporates different flavors throughout its 5 minutes duration.
Following speculation about whether Anubhav Sinha’s Cash was to be postponed, it is now clear that the film will not release on the 27th of July, but only on 3rd August. “The court case delayed the screening of the film by the censors, and since we couldn’t catch the overseas market at such short notice, the film has been postponed,” informs the spokesperson for the film. In fact, Anubhav Sinha had himself denied that the film was postponed just two days ago. “That is correct,” informs our source. “It was only yesterday that we figured out that it was not possible to release the film on the 27th.”
