Kareena Kapoor can put her hopes of being cast in My Name Is Khan to complete rest. For finally Karan Johar’s first choice Kajol has agreed to do the film. Kajol gave the nod to the project on Thursday.
A source close to Kajol’s husband, Ajay Devgan, tells us, “Kajol indeed took a long time to take a call on her participation in Karan Johar’s My Name Is Khan, but the problem was that she had not heard the script in detail. This week, she took a long look at the script and finally said ‘yes’.”
“Karan and Kajol go back a long way. Their dosti is not only friendship but respect for each other as well. Kajol could not have refused the film outright,” the insider further says.
So how will Kajol adjust to the US schedule? Will her daughter Nysa accompany her? Wasn’t that one of the reasons why Kajol took long to give her nod of consent? “Well, that all will be sorted out. Kajol has worked out how to look after Nysa during that period. Whether Nysa will go with Kajol or not is still not known,” our source adds.
We sent a text message to KJo (as Karan is fondly called in the industry), but he did not reply.
My Name Is Khan, directed by Karan Johar, stars Karan’s best buddy, Shah Rukh (who co-produces My Name Is Khan) in the male lead.
The only time Shah Rukh and Kareena have been romantically paired earlier was in Asoka the Great (2001), which too was produced in part by Shah Rukh Khan.
It looks like generosity runs in the Devgan family. Last week, Ajay Devgan was in news for his generous gesture towards Kumar Mangat, who has been his business manger for over 20 years.
Now, it is wife Kajol who has agreed to play a cameo role in Haal-e-Dil, which will be produced by Kumar Mangat.
Our source said, “Ajay and Kajol are extremely close to Kumar Mangat and the film Haal-e-Dil is Mangat’s daughter Amita’s debut film.
So, when he requested Kajol to play a cameo in the film, she immediately agreed.”
It’s a known fact that Kajol only works with established banners like Yash Raj Films and Dharma Productions, and is usually extremely selective about her roles. In Haal-e-Dil, she will play a small but vital role.
Kajol’s role in the film will give it the surprise twist that Mangat wants.
No wonder Mangat refused to give out detailsabout Kajol’s character when we asked him. However, when we told that we had a picture of Kajol from Haal-e-Dil, he laughed and said, “No comments.”

Flirting is the only way to open the door to a romantic relationship. It's a chance that one takes with someone whom you don't know or might not get a chance to see again.
Something similar happened on the sets of Zee TV Rock N Roll Family when the one and only infamous Harbhajjan Singh graced the show with his demure presence. Replete with his witty one liners and slapstic humour, Bhajji expressed his deep crush and infatuation for his favourite actress Kajol. He has lost count of the number of times he has seen DDLJ. So much is he smitten by the frisky Kajol and her invigorating spark, that he did not hesitate to sing for her ‘tujhe dekha toh ya jana sanam' for the very first time ever onscreen only for her and only in Rock N Roll Family.
How floored was Kajol by this act of flattery; giggling, smiling and blushing being wooed after ages offscreen post her marriage. Generous compliments were showered by Kajol who said that Bhajji was a better singer than SRK. So miffed was the hubby dearest by all this mushy display of affection that he snapped at Bhajji saying that he should show his expertise only in the game of cricket and strictly on the field.
All the three judges of Rock N Roll Family – Ajay Devgan, Tanjua and Kajol - will travel with the two finalists of the show to Indore.
Ajay Devgan has displayed his affection and support to the show through his blog post.
He writes, “Sometimes you get attached to a unit and without knowing they become a part of our routine lives while I’m on the sets of Zee Rock N Roll Family and today, one more family who have performed so well for such a long time and have come so far will eventually be eliminated and the next Monday shoot when myself, Kajol and Tanujaji will travel to Indore for the semi-final episodes followed by final, which will decide the ultimate winner of Rs. 50 lacs.”
Further, about the show, the actor says, “It is such a pleasure to work with the Rock N Roll unit and an amazing experience. May the best family win!”
The director of the show reveals, “Ajay Devgan is certainly impressed by the anchor of the show Sharad Kelkar. The actor has grown fond of Sharad during the shooting of Rock N Roll Family. He loves to spend time with him during the breaks and the two often discuss, chat and laugh their way to the next performance."
Even as the 'Dasavatharam' fever has gripped India and as Kamal fans are waiting with bated breath for its release, the ace actor is looking ahead with his next project, ‘Marmayogi’.
Kamal Haasan is sporting a wildly grown beard these days. The reason can be fathomed by just about anybody. ‘Marmayogi’ demands the beard and it also shows the commitment the actor has towards filmmaking. It is a practice by most in the film industry to take a break after completing a project. Even with the unimaginable magnitude with which the film has been made and following a lifestyle that demanded the actor to work up to 20 hours a days on a regular basis, thoughts of a break hasn't set in. Pre-production work for ‘Marmayogi’ has already started and what's more….Kamal Haasan has done the screenplay for the film.
The ‘Marmayogi’ team has approached Kajol to play a very important role in the film. This is actually the second time that Kamal Haasan is approaching Kajol. He had earlier knocked on her door for a role in ‘Chachi 420’ – the remake of the Tamil blockbuster ‘Avvaishanmugi’. Unfortunately, Kajol was committed to another project at that time and Tabu was roped in.
The dream girl of the sixties, Hema Malini has been approached for another role and has accepted it gleefully. Let's hope we get to see Kamal Haasan and Kajol perform stupendously in ‘Marmayogi’.
The lady likes her privacy and prefers to talk to the media mostly when her films are about to release. And her father’s death recently has made her quieter still. Recently, she was in the city to endorse a brand but kept her appearance to a short 30-minutes pose-appear-and-disappear routine.
Asked what she has been doing of late, she said, “Ajay is busy shooting and my daughter Nysa keeps me busy.” Kajol, who has said in the past that “she was born to be a mother,” perks up immediately at the mention of her daughter. “Everybody I work with knows that my kid comes first. In fact she occupies the one to 10 slots,” she said. And does she plan to become a mother again? “Oh definitely,” she says, “I want to have at least three more kids.”
The actress who has done only selective work since she became a mother may completely go off the screen then! But what is she working on just now? “It’s a film that I will do with my husband. It’s actually an animation film with human characters called Toonpur Ka Superhero, something like Who Framed Roger Rabbit? We’re actually playing ourselves, yes, we’ll be Ajay and Kajol. But the cartoon characters get the main roles. It will be healthy competition.”
As per reliable trade sources, Kajol has finally said "Yes" to Karan Johar's next directorial venture.
The super-talented Kajol, who doesn't give her official nod of approval to a film, whether it is her husband Ajay Devgan's or close friend Karan Johar's, till she has heard the script, gave her consent to Karan Johar's 'My Name Is Khan/Khan', just last month.
Kajol, back from a holiday with family, heard the script of Karan Johar's new film and gave the filmmaker her "go ahead".
Bollywood’s hottest on-screen couple is back after seven years. Kajol has finally agreed to do Karan Johar’s next titled “My Name Is Khan” and feature as Shah Rukh Khan’s wife in the film about an Indian couple living in the US. The two were last seen as couple in Karan’s 2001 family saga “Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham”.
When the media reported the news of her being considered for the role in “My Name Is Khan” early last month, the straightforward actress had retorted by saying that without reading the script she would not give consent to work in a movie even made by her husband, leave alone Karan Johar or anybody else.
According to a source close to the production house, soon after that she went on a holiday with her family and there was a lull on “My Name Is Khan” front. Now it is learnt that she has given the green signal to the movie to be directed by Karan.
Though the movie is scheduled to be launched in December, a buzz has already started that Karan has a winner in his. Not only because it has a hit pair heading the cast, but also because the composer trio, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, has scored some “outstanding” tunes for the movie.
Those who have heard some of the tunes composed with dummy lyrics say that one of the highlights of “My Name Is Khan” will certainly be its music, as it always is in a Karan Johar production.
The launch of “My Name is Khan” has been deferred till December because at present Karan is busy with Dharma Productions’ other movies, including Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham starrer “Dostana”. The film is due for release later this year.
Karan is also planning to launch his erstwhile assistant Ayaan as a full-fledged director. Incidentally, Ayaan is Kajol’s first cousin.
We have our Shehanshah, Badshah and King in Bollywood but no Begum, Shehzadi or Queen. When it comes to our heroines we just refer to them as Aish, Bebo or Kat. So who really rules amongst the actresses?
It all depends on the yardstick that you use; sexiness, we think is not the right one.
Titles, and more importantly paychecks, of Bollywood male stars are a reflection of their ability to carry a film on their shoulders. Should we not use the same yardstick for female stars?
Bollywood filmmakers may take a while to recover from the box office failures of heroine centric films like Aaja Nachle and Laaga Chunri Mein Daag, but when they do, they will seek actresses like Kajol and Kareena to topline their projects, not Katrina Kaif, despite her high current ranking.
Actresses like Aishwarya Rai, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukerjee, Vidya Balan and Bipasha Basu can pull off strong roles, but their ability to carry a box office success on their shoulders is less certain..
Rani Mukerjee failed to do so in Laag Chunri Mein Daag, despite being a pretty good actress.
Kareena actually has a proven track record with Chameli (2003), and some may say even Jab We Met (2008), but no one can seriously doubt Kajol's ability to do even a better job.
For heroine centric films to succeed, a gripping script is an absolute must, but unfortunately rare to come by in Bollywood. And that is one reason why Katrina Kaif, despite her limitations, has her hands full with offers and fat paychecks, while a talented actress like Kajol does Mommy duties at home waiting for the right script.
Ironically, other than a strong script heroine centric films require little else to make. They cost a lot less for, for sure. Unlike leading male stars who command paychecks of between Rs 7 crore to Rs 20 crore, the best female stars come for less than Rs 3 crore. The films don't have item numbers, car crashes and high flying stunts all of which tend to soak up budgets.
Kajol the versatile actor of Hindi Cinema and Kamal Hassan the superstar of South is a unique combination and sounds quite interesting. Just imagine, what would be the impetus when two remarkable stars would come together to entertain the masses. News is doing the rounds that Kajol will be paired opposite Kamal Hassan in Marma Yogi.
If Kajol gives her nod then this will be her first film with Kamal. She is still to remark on the issue. Looking at Kamal’s growing beard, it is already being confirmed that he has started to get into the skin of the character. Walt Disney will produce the film and the theme is said to be set in the period drama of the seventh century. The estimated cost is expected to be a whopping Rs. 120 crore. It will be shot in Thailand.
Kamal has also roped in vivacious Hema Malini to play the role of a villain. Some sources say that Amitabh Bachchan and Rekha will also play a cameo for this film as husband and wife. Tamil actress Asin is one of the heroines of Marma Yogi.
---------------------------------- Übersetzung von xXAnjaliXx: PS: Mein Film heißt nun "My Name is Khan" (tschüss, 'K') und Shahrukh Khan und Kajol spielen mit. Das ist meine erste offizielle Stellungnahme.
Kajol has still not found the script that will make her say yes to a new film immediately.
Ever since she made her comeback in Fanaa , Kajol has made no secret of the fact that her baby is her first priority and films come later. Even though she worked in hubby Ajay Devgan ’s directorial debut U Me Aur Hum , the actress has been turning down offers from many big banners, including a film by Rajkumar Hirani. She also hasn’t yet given her final nod to good friend Karan Johar who plans to cast her opposite Shah Rukh Khan in his Khan .
The reason why Kajol hasn’t signed any new film is because nothing has interested her so far.
“The roles that are offered to me are not so great. I won’t accept an offer just because it comes from a big banner or has big stars. For me, the story in its entirety must make sense,” Kajol is quoted as saying.
So what’s her new project?
Kajol says she is working with Ajay again in the animation film ‘Toonpur Ka Superhero’. In the film Kajol will be dubbing for an animated character based on herself.
It was a day of when media and celebrities took on each other. While Abhishek Bachchan snapped at a journalist during a press conference, the media boycotted Karan Johar and Kajol's book-reading session at another venue.
The two celebrities were to be part of the book reading of The Alchemist, which is to be adapted into a play by Ashwin Gidwani Productions. Journalist-writer Deepa Gahlot has scripted the play while Sunil Shanbag will direct it.
However the two failed to turn up for over two hours even as the media was refused any refreshments whatsoever. Finally after the patient wait, most media persons decided to leave for a photography exhibition next door.
After waiting for almost two hours and sensing that they might not get any interesting sound bytes from either Karan Johar or Kajol, the electronic media and most of the print journalists packed their bags and left in a huff.
It was after this that Karan Johar, dressed in a spotless white shirt decided to walk in. Kajol too walked in about 10 minutes later dressed in a dark green top and a pair of black trousers.
