Kajol, Ajay Devgan and daughter Nysa at the domestic airport on their return from Goa yesterday afternoon. Ajay tells us, "I am thrilled with the response to Golmaal Returns! I have been told by trade people that till now GR has grossed 40 crore and has had the biggest opening ever this year! I was in Goa with my family when people kept calling me. Apparently, the theatre exhibitors have got 'Housefull' boards after nine years. It's our Diwali bonanza to them. And the audiences are going wild!"

Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty creates Golmaal on the sets of VOI 2
Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty, director of Golmaal Returns, were present on the sets of Voice of India for the Dosti special episode to promote their movie Golmaal Returns. We all know that Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty have been great friends for decades; they decided to test the camaraderie between the contestants.
The Friday's episode called the Freaky Friday being the day of elimination, it was decided that neither the judges nor the audience will decide who will be eliminated, and it will be the contestants who will vote out one of them out. But the friendship between the girls, Ritisha & Saptaparna is so strong that instead of voting their friends they decided to vote themselves out.
Zaakir too decided to vote himself out rather than voting his friends out. It's not just great friendship which was encountered but also the spirit of competition was noticed. The boys, Vipul, Mallar & Ravi said that, "We are all friends but we are in a competition and we are here to compete with each other."
Mallar, Vipul & Ravi performed on Dil Chahta Hai which was loved by the judges, the guests and the audience.
As it was dosti special each contestant was asked about their best friends. Mallar said his best friend was Guitar and to his surprise Shaan gifted him a guitar. With that guitar he dedicated the song Omkara to Ajay Devgan. Sukhwinder Singh was too happy to hear it and joined Mallar on the stage.
The star of Golmaal, the prankster of the film industry, Ajay Devgan, played a prank with the contestants of Saibaba Telefilms' Amul Star Voice of India. The contestants didn't know they were tricked till the end of the show. To know what the prank was watch Amul Star Voice of India on Friday at 10 p.m. on Star Plus.
Diwali Dhamaka 'Golmaal Returns' has proved to be this years highest grosser so far! Produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. and directed by Rohit Shetty, the sequel had the biggest opening and is still going strong!
Cashing in on the festive season, the holidays have proved to be a boon for the producers who have witnessed an ecstatic response to the hilarious roller coaster starring Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Arshad Warsi, Amrita Arora, Shreyas Talpade, Celina Jaitley, Tusshar Kapoor and Anjana Sukhani.
Although the recently released out and out comedy 'Golmaal Returns' had the success of the first one of the series titled as 'Golmaal' to fall back upon and thus attract the audience into the theaters, this kind of opening was not even remotely predicted.
The movie produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd and directed by Rohit Shetty not only got one of the best openings witnessed in Bollywood in the recent times but is still going very strong as the crowd thronging the cinema halls are just keeping on increasing.
In Chitra theatre, the movie has not only beaten all the previous records of collections of the past 9 years but also is fully booked for the next 9 days.
The scenario is almost the same in others parts of India too.
In Punjab, Hoshiapur, Jammu and in regions like CP Berar, Nagpur, Raipur and Amravati the halls running 'Golmaal Returns' are packed to full capacity.
When the response of the International crowd is concerned, in London, the movie has been able to collect nearly 40,000 pounds in a just a single day.
No wonder the makers are seriously thinking of going ahead with full confidence for making 'Golmaal-3'.

While the 'official weekend' has just begun, the fact is that GOLMAAL RETURNS and FASHION have had an advantage of a Wednesday release which gave them two days prior to the beginning of the weekend and hence big money too in the process. Between the two films, they have already collected around 20 crores in just first two days, hence bringing back smiles on the faces of distributors and exhibitors who were waiting for a big arrival at the box office.
Well, the smiles are pretty much expected to stay on far beyond the five–day weekend advantage that the two films have because in weeks to come, there are hardly any notable release. The next immediate competition comes in the form of DOSTANA which is still close to a fortnight away. This Tarun Mansukhani directed film sees a theatrical release on 14th November paving way on the clear run that GOLMAAL RETURNS and FASHION can enjoy.
After DOSTANA, YUVVRAAJ is the next major release a week later but yet again since it's a solo release, both GOLMAAL RETURNS and FASHION can expect good screen count for them.
- Sheer insensitivity: The digs aimed at the dumb and the deaf are in terrible taste. Lines such as 'bina ringtone ke mobile phone' are routinely used, amidst gales of canned laughter, to describe the deaf.
- Criminal waste of talent: A powerhouse actor like Shreyas Talpade tries to raise laughs by clutching his crotch after landing on assorted sharp objects, and totters about in mock pain when his posterior is pierced with a pair of garden shears. Arshad Warsi, whose sense of comic timing is otherwise brilliant, insults his intelligence (and ours) with his Hawaldar Pandu jokes. Goes to show how a clueless director can kill talented actors.
- Ekta Kapoor: The sultana of soaps may not be physically present in a single frame of the film, but only a dummy will fail to see through the surrogate advertising for Balaji Telefilms and its K serials.
- Stale stereotypes: Director Rohit Shetty must be an ignoramus. Or else, how could he make a film where one of the boys woos a Tamil girl but serenades her with a raunchy Telugu song? Just as all South Indian are Madrasis, all languages in the Deccan sound the same, right Mr Shetty?
- Below the belt humour: We can't decide who should take the (dis)credit here - the man who made the film, or the Indian Censor Board for clearing a film which delights in innuendo and decrees that every woman should either be a shrew or a sex pot.
There were two things that almost happened simultaneously ever since Golmaal Returns hit the screens on Wednesday. While the film opened to almost full houses all over, the critics gave it thumbs down. The trend continued with every passing day till Sunday where the collections remained very good while reviews ranged between average to bad. Did this hurt the film? Well, as is the situation today - not at all. Golmaal Returns is busy earning mega bucks and no one but Rohit Shetty, the captain of the ship, is busy grinning from ear to ear.
"Critics laughed at the film. Audience is laughing with the film. And now it's my turn to laugh along with the film's success", says the amused director who is clearly having fun with many people from media suddenly turning silent with the film's success.
"Haan, ab sab chup ho gaye hain", jokes Rohit, "Though on paper it seems like an advantage to have a 5-day weekend, the fact is that eventually you have to stay strong on all the days. I am happy that even after a whopping initial that the film took between Wednesday to Friday, the film continued to do well on Saturday and Sunday as well."
But what really made critics go hammers and tongs at the film? After all he had all along maintained that it was a nonsensical slapstick comedy? "Search me", says Rohit in a bemused tone, "I guess it was a herd mentality. Ek bola, sab saath ho liye! But seriously, so many of the reviewers too hardly come with any credibility whatsoever. There is so much that happens behind the scenes even when it comes to reviews and reviewers. There is no point name taking, especially when audience is clearly enjoying my film."
Did he sense something like this happening to Golmaal Returns? Was that the reason he didn't even keep any pre-release screenings? "True, I wanted those who were interested in the film to come and watch it at theaters when it released on Wednesday. Why to unnecessarily expose your film to some harm even before its release? It's unwarranted", comments Rohit.
Though quite a few reviews thought that the film carried below the belt humor, children seem to be thoroughly enjoying the outing. "Yup, that was indeed the target audience. I don't know why critics missed the point that Golmaal Returns was meant to be a slapstick comedy and there was nothing which was offensive for the children. In fact I had toned down the film so much just so that the film becomes suitable for the family audience."
How exactly? "Well, Ajay Devgan-Celina Jaitley sequence on the yacht was supposed to be a seductive duet but I dropped the idea and made it a funny dance sequence with just background music in play. Censors gave the film a 'U' certificate, families are loving the film, children are laughing at the jokes but critics? Aaah, now what can I say", shurgs Rohit.
Meanwhile the star of the show, Tusshar Kapoor, is sadly missing all the action as he is currently stationed in Cape Town. Cued to the reports trickling in around the success of the film, he wishes that he was in Mumbai to catch all the action.
"Yeah man, wish I was there. I am continuing to get all the reviews and compliments and I am glad the film has been received so well. I was always confident about the film but then you never know how audience reacts to the film", says Tusshar who is all set to be bestowed with all the awards for the 'Best Actor in a Comic Role' when 2008 comes ending.
"I wish, I wish", Tusshar says softly, "I am plain happy to have this success to my name. I now look forward to being in Mumbai with the cast, crew, my friends and family to enjoy this success. Maybe team 'Golmaal' would have a success party soon and I would fly over."
Arshad Warsi is upset that he didn't have much to do in the film. "Forget it yaar, I have said what I had to say. If he feels betrayed then fine. He won't feature in Golmaal 3", signs off Rohit.
Actor Ajay Devgan cannot stop beaming. Following the fantastic opening of Golmaal Returns, the actor has reason enough to smile. It gives him his first hit of the year. He has had quite a few releases this year, beginning with his own directorial venture, all of which failed to ignite the box office. Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Returns has done what all those films, including Sunday, Halla Bol and Cash could not do for Devgan. But the actor is not taking any solo credit for the film's success. Everybody who is part of the film is responsible for its success, is what he maintains. That may be Devgan's take. But actor Arshad Warsi has another take altogether. He is complaining of being short changed. The actor feels that his role has been chopped and that he would never work again with Shetty. Well, for all those who have seen the film, Arshad's performance was quite disappointing. But if one goes by what Devgan says, which is that from the script to the release, the film is exactly the way it was narrated to them. Anyway Devgan has dismissed all of this as part of the film's promotion. But Shetty was quick to react to Warsi's allegation and promptly announced another film, but this time without him. He was quick to declare that he would never work with the actor again. Well for Arshad's sake, we hope it is all about publicity and promotion, because if truth be known, the actor has very little to his credit besides the Munnabhai series. Back to Devgan: the actor is currently busy with his film London Dreams where Salman Khan is one of his co stars. The last time the two worked together was for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. And if reports are to be believed, then the two actors have been bonding extremely well. It has been unkindly said that Shah Rukh Khan is the reason behind their bonding.
Though Akshay Kumar's Diwali party on Wednesday night had several B-Town folk in attendance, his closest buddy and production partner Vipul Shah was conspicious by his absence.
Says a source, "There has been buzz about problems between Akshay and Vipul (who's directing the Salman Khan-Ajay Devgan starrer London Dreams) though both have denied it. The rumour that did the rounds some time back was that Akshay and Vipul had differences about the publicity designs of Singh Is Kinng and over certain accounting problems."
Strange absence
Adds the source, "It was strange that neither Vipul nor his wife Shefali (who is close to Akshay's wife Twinkle) attended the bash."
The source continues, "Akshay extended invitations over a week ago, so it was strange that Vipul made plans to go to Goa with his family just a day before Akki's party."
However, Vipul maintains, "I had to miss Akshay's party as I am in Goa. I'll be celebrating with him in the second week of November, when we announcing our next film together."
Interestingly, Ajay Devgan is also in Goa with wife Kajol and daughter Nysa.
Vipul adds, "I am with family and friends in Goa and will return on Saturday."
Vipul and Ajay had bonded well during the overseas shooting of London Dreams and so had Salman Khan, who also stars in the film. Both Ajay and Salman leave no stone unturned for their antipathy towards Akshay. In fact, Salman was invited to Akshay's party along with his brothers but he chose not to attend."

In Pakistan, the long weekend produced an outstanding result of approx. 8.6 million Pakistani Rupees, breaking the record of the industry's top openers, SINGH IS KINNG and KIDNAP, previously released by Indian Films.
In the UK & Ireland, just the opening surpassed the lifetime gross of Part 1 of the GOLMAAL series – approx. £0.2 million from 42 play–dates catapulted the title to the coveted UK Top 10 sharing ranks with Hollywood biggies as QUANTUM OF SOLACE, HIGH STREET MUSICAL 3, MAMMA MIA, GHOST TOWN and SAW V.
In the Middle East, GOLMAAL RETURNS mopped up approx. 1.4 million Dhs. from 20 locations, while in the US & Canada it raked in approx. $0.20 million from 60 locations.
The figures from the principal markets above exclude takings from the day–and–date release in Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, Fiji Islands, Australia, New Zealand, East Africa and West Africa.
As Indian Films owns the rights of GOLMAAL RETURNS for 10 years, the monetization of existing and new platforms will additionally boost the bottom–line on the title.
The release of GOLMAAL RETURNS marks one year of Indian Films' dream run and dominance at the worldwide box–office with three historic industry grossers (JAB WE MET, WELCOME and SINGH IS KINNG) and two landmark openers (KIDNAP, GOLMAAL RETURNS).
"On GOLMAAL RETURNS, we hit our number right on for the weekend. It was what we anticipated," remarked Sandeep Bhargava, CEO of the advisory to Indian Films. "All the films from our stable have been received with enthusiasm by the audience and have consistently outperformed at the box office raising the bar for the industry to emulate."

GOLMAAL RETURNS is now officially a sure shot success. The film has been accepted in a big way by the audience and in the process has ensured that after a string of mega budget disappointments like DRONA, KIDNAP and KARZZZZ, Bollywood is back to smiling.
As per the collections made available by Studio 18 to this writer, till Sunday, this Rohit Shetty directed film has collected over 40 crores gross (not Net) just from India. Overseas too the film has taken a bumper beginning with UAE bringing in 1.3 million dirham and UK boasting of 1.93 lakh pounds from 42 screens.
Film's huge success in UK is quite notable considering there has been competition from Hollywood with the likes of QUANTUM OF SOLACE, SAW 5 and GHOST TOWN running alongside GOLMAAL RETURNS. Still, the film has managed to make it into the Top–10 charts there.
The way this fun film is going at the box office, it is all set to out gross the entire collection of the biggest money spinner of Rohit Shetty, GOLMAAL (30 crores net), by the end of 1st week itself.
Says Rohit Shetty, who is of course elated with the film's response, "This is a huge beginning for the film and frankly even I was not expecting such a tremendous response. But well, it is great to see audience loving the film so much, especially children. I had always believed that the film was catering to the children as well as elderly alike and though some intelligent critics didn't feel so, the collections prove otherwise."
Talking about the way the film has sustained on a very good note across all the five days (Wednesday–Sunday), Rohit says, "For us Saturday was a litmus test because if one looks at a conventional 3–day weekend period, Saturday was pretty much a Monday for us. Since the collections have only rocked further on with every passing day that has made GOLMAAL RETURNS pretty much a bona fide success. Now work has to begin on GOLMAAL – 3."

Nearly all actors are on the show bandwagon these days, and are even trying to outdo the other. If Amitabh has his Unforgettable tours, Shah Rukh plans to 'tempt' the NRI audiences with a magnum opus next year. Isn't actor Ajay Devgan missing out on the fun and the opportunity to make some quick bucks?
"Who says money is everything and there is no other way of making it? And who says dancing is fun? Shows are even worse. I've been on a show once in 1992. It was a charity event. And I just didn't know what was going on," confesses Ajay, frowning.
He adds, "I don't understand the concept of shows. This is a very personal decision. If people who are doing it, enjoy doing it, great! To each his own! But for me the grammar of it all is a little difficult to follow. I don't understand the thrill of dancing for a crowd; I don't understand the thrill the audiences get either! I'm not a good dancer, but even if I were a good dancer, I don't think shows would be my kind of thing!"
Though Ajay promises to deliver some unforgettable moments in the movies, the live naach-gaana just ain't his cuppa tea.
übersetzt von sylva: Warum will Ajay Devgan keine Shows machen?
Shows sind immer sehr teuer.
Mumbai, Nov 05: The comedy film "Golmaal Returns" is a copy of the 1973 production "Aaj Ki Taza Khabar", a complainant told a film producers' forum Tuesday.
Shakuntala Bhatia lodged a complaint with the Indian Motion Picture Producers' Association (IMPPA) that "Golmaal Returns", which was released Oct 29, was a direct copy of her husband, producer Rajendra Bhatia's "Aaj Ki Taza Khabar", starring Kiran Kumar, Radha Saluja and Asrani.
She said she came to know of the similarities of the stories between the two movies only after she read reviews of "Golmaal Returns" in a Bollywood trade magazine Monday. She substantiated her claim, saying the reviewers had also noted as much in their magazines.
Bhatia claimed a compensation of Rs.50 million from "Golmaal Returns" producer Shree Asthavinayak Cine Vision as Kiron Production, headed by her, was in the process of re-making "Aaj Ki Taza Khabar".
"Golmaal Returns", starring Ajay Devgan, Kareena Kapoor, Tushar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Celina Jaitley and Amrita Arora and directed by Rohit Shetty, has already raked in Rs.450 million from domestic box-office with additional $10 million from the overseas market, according to Indian Films, which owns the movie's rights.
The movie's story has been credited to Yunus Sajawal and it has been advertised as a sequel to Rohit Shetty's 2006 production, "Golmaal."
Kolkata, November 05, 2008 First Published: 04:00 IST(6/11/2008)
After over a year, director duo Abbas-Mustan will start shooting again for Mr Fraud. Featuring Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan and Bipasha Basu (in a double role), the comic caper is produced by Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision, it is scheduled for a mid-2009 release.
After two schedules, during which 70 per cent of the shooting was completed, the film ground to a halt after Dutt was convicted for possession of arms in November 2006 and in July 2007 was given a six-year sentence.
After he got bail from the Supreme Court, Dutt decided to first wrap up his pending films one of which was Kidnap by the same production house.
But Mr Fraud remained in the cans since the producers couldn’t get dates from the rest of the cast and crew.
Dates for December
Hope floated after the producers snapped up Dutt for their underwater adventure film, Blue, also featuring Akshay Kumar, Zayed Khan and Lara Dutta.
Now that Kidnap has released and Blue is in the post-production stages, plans are afloat to revive Mr Fraud.
Neither the producers nor the director duo were available for comment. But a source assocaited with the movie, confirmed the news. “They have been asking the actors for dates in December,” he informed. “Hopefully we should finish the shooting soon. It’s a fantastic script and comedy has always worked with the audience.”
Golmaal Returns is fast emerging as 2008's biggest blockbuster as of now. But the man behind the sequel Ajay Devgan, does not wish to take any credit for that!
"It was a joint decision. When Golmaal (2006) became a success we all decided that a sequel had to be done. We gave a lot of time for the scripting of the film. We had to be careful since the first part was a huge success. The gags this time definitely had to be better." Ajay tells us.
Ajay seems to be at ease with comic flicks lately. "This is not the first time I am doing a comedy. I had done films like Ishq with Aamir which was a huge success. But people immediately connect me to Golmaal. But it's time I did an action film. I am missing hard core action now." says Ajay.
Having been concentrating more on comic films for some time now does he consider comedies a safe bet? "Life is not about being safe. It's about taking risks. There is no thrill if there's no risk. My life would have been monotonous by now." replies Ajay.
The association between Director Rohit Shetty Ajay Devgan goes a long way. In fact Rohit did his directorial debut (Zameen) with Ajay. "Yes, I have known Rohit for the last 18 to 19 years. He first started off as an assistant with Phool Aur Kaante and went on to assistant Devgan films. I have seen a lot of potential in him and he is clear with what he wants to do." says Ajay.
Ajay Devgan has never let himself be typecast in any role. From Phool Aur Kaante to Apaharan the actor has experiemented with different genres. He has moulded himself deftly from an action hero to comedy roles. "I think I have been plain lucky to get the right kind of films and right kind of directors. It keeps me going.
The actor turned director says that he got a tremendous response to his debut directorial venture U Me Aur Hum abroad. "I got a lot of experience when I was in London. People came and spoke to me aout a lot of small sensibilities. It was a very risky subject, epecially the second half. The first half was very commercial. There were times when I felt I should have stuck to it but then my sensibilities as a director over came me. I had a great actress like Kajol with me. It was such a difficult role to do but she managed it smoothly."
When we asked him whether he is contemplating his next directorial venture, Ajay's reply was, "I am working on a script. I'll let you know as soon as I can."
