U, me aur Hum, is not what Ajay Devgan is saying to wife Kajol these days. His next directorial venture will not star his better half. Ajay’s next as a director is reportedly an action flick. He’s all excited about getting back to his USP too. Ajay was once heavily into action stunts and all that and is experimenting with the genre once again. Wonder if his better half will now be a ‘bitter’ half for being left out of this one.
Ajay Devgan was first offered the role of Robert D'costa, and loved the script, but turned down the movie because he wasn't keen on doing an intense action film. Also, Akshay Kumar turned down the role of Robert D'costa as he did not want to play a secondary character.
If Farhan Akhtar and gang can do it for Rock On, then so can Ajay Devgan. The actor is playing a rock star in Vipul Shah's London Dreams and is believed to have worked hard on his look for the movie. Ajay stars in the film along with Salman Khan and South actress Asin. According to reports, the film's story is a triangular love story, with all all three actors playing singers in the movie. Ajay is the original rock star in the movie, while Salman supposedly sports a more rustic look as he is supposedly from Punjab in the movie. In fact, Salman's look for the movie, which has been designed by Ana Singh, will be much more muted. The glamour and funk will all be Ajay's department. It is believed that the actor will be sporting silver hoops in the film as well as a tattoo. His hair has been styled in a funky manner as well. So if all goes well, Ajay may well be the next rock star. So move on Farhan, Ajay is here to grab the eyeballs. Rock music suddenly seems to be big in Bollywood, doesn't it?

Mumbai: Ajay Devgan was at his naughtiest best while was shooting in London recently. And this time, the person at the receiving end was his London Dreams' co-star Asin Thottumkal.
Ajay roped in co-star Salman Khan and director Vipul Shah and played a prank on the south Indian beauty by sending a 'scary' man to her caravan when she was alone to scare her.
Asin says laughing, "A big, beefed up intimidating African man was sent to my caravan when I was alone. He cornered me and tried to scare me. But I didn't get scared because it was too unreal for me to believe at that point of time. After his act was over, I told him 'Thank you for your entertainment. Please leave now'."
Explaining how Ajay and Vipul reacted, Asin says, "Ajay said I'm too clever for his pranks. He said he'll have to come up with more intelligent pranks for me. Vipul on the other hand kept wondering why there was no reaction from my end."
Though this prank didn't scare Asin, she says for her it was a discovery. "Finding out this side of Ajay Devgan was one of my discoveries during the shoot of the movie. Unlike the serious image that he portrays, I got to see the fun side of him," she says.
London Dreams takes off where Rock On!! left in 2008. Rock music seems to be the flavour Bollywood is relishing — and Ajay Devgan is the next rock star.
London Dreams, which is said to be a love triangle between Salman Khan, Asin Thottumkal and Devgan, has all three of them as singers with music bands. Khan plays a boy from Punjab and sports a rustic look with long hair and even a turban, but it is Devgan who has a modish avatar. His ash-blonde highlights on spiked hair are just the tip of the makeover iceberg. Ana Singh, who designed the look for the three actors, says she wanted to experiment with Devgan’s character and he will be sporting lots of jackets, scarves and funky sunglasses. “I wanted him to look like he never has before,” says the stylist, who has made him wear silver hoops and sport a tattoo on his hand. Asin’s glamorous avatar is being kept under wraps, but from what is known, she will be sporting a bold, urban, rock-chick look.
In past many actors like Aamir Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Amitabh Bachchan and Ajay Devgan have raised doubts over the procedure of giving awards in the famous award functions and Akshay Kumar raised further doubts over the ceremony by refusing to accept the award in Star Screen Awards. Akshay said he gets calls from award functions to perform during the show at half a price and take away an award.

Some big names from Bollywood and politicians will grace the SaReGaMaPa finale tonight....
The count down has begun for SaReGaMaPa finale as the winner will be declared on January 24th... We have already mentioned that Akshay Kumar with Deepika Padukone will be gracing the finale. Alongside there will be many biggies from Bollywood as well as politicians too.
“Mithun Chakraborty, Shanker Mahadevan, Sukhvinder Singh and Ajay Devgan will also been seen in the finale. They will be performing for the event,” says our khabroo.
The show is also supporting the cause of 26/11 terror attack and thus the event is taking place at Gateway of India. “The show finale is also expecting some biggies from Politics due to the cause. Let see who all turns up,” adds the source.
The battle between the contestants Vaishali Made, Yashica Sharma and Shoumen Nandi will end tonight. So lets wait and watch who takes the winning title.
They will performing for the event.
In a befitting tribute to the bravehearts who laid down their lives on 26/11, and as a challenge to terrorism, a music reality show hosted its grand finale at the Gateway of India on Saturday.
The suspense in the air, as to who would be declared the winner amongst the three finalists Somen Nandi, Yashita Sharma and Vaishali Made, was punctuated by spectacular performances and glitzy appearances by Bollywood’s reigning heartthrobs. Musical geniuses Shankar Mahadevan, Himesh Reshammiya, Pritam and Aadesh Srivastava entertained and how, even singing patriotic numbers such as Dil Diya Hain Jaan Bhi Denge to charge the audience.
Host Aditya Narayan (whose aerial entry attracted much attention) also crooned several latest Bolly-ditties even as proud papa Udit Narayan looked on adoringly. The occasion was lent a huge dose of glamour as Ajay Devgan, the ‘it’ girl Deepika Padukone and Akshay ‘khiladi’ Kumar made an appearance along with Mithun Chakravarty who revealed his upcoming association with a dance reality show. Ajay made an early exit but not before lauding the people of Mumbai for staying together in times of distress and picking up the threads of life so bravely. His sentiments were echoed by Akshay who said: “it shows the courage of Mumbaikars who’ve gathered in such large numbers to the very place that had turned to hell few weeks back.” Deepika, who looked like a million bucks in a white sari, revealed her penchant for music. The tension was eased after a long night as Vaishali Made was crowned winner, and the celebrations ended on a patriotic high-note as the crowd paid tribute with a rendition of the national anthem.
Be it Aishwarya Rai, Deepika Padukone, Bipasha Basu, Katrina Kaif or Koena Mitra, heroines are no longer content with just dancing around trees or singing in the rain. Instead, they are in a bid to compete with action heroes.
"The trend of more heroines taking up action roles itself shows that with the evolution of the Hindi film industry, women are getting to do more in films than just dance around trees," Deepika told IANS.
Said actor Ajay Devgan: "Heroines are as strong as heroes. If we can do it, why can't they? It is great to see them opting for action roles and I think they must continue to do action scenes in films."
Seema Biswas wielded revolvers in "Bandit Queen", a film-based on dacoit Phoolan Devi, Sushmita Sen gave an action packed performance in "Samay" and Esha Deol's and Aishwarya's racy acts proved a crowd puller for "Dhoom" and "Dhoom 2" respectively.
Also, Priyanka and Soha Ali Khan had action scenes in "Krrish" and "Khoya Khoya Chand" respectively, while Esha, Dia Mirza and Shamita Shetty did some stunts in "Cash".
Commenting on the trend, Amrita Rao said: "I would love to do an action flick. In fact I find myself fortunate that I entered the film industry during a phase when actresses are doing so much and have longer terms.
It gives me hope for a longer innings. And the credit goes to banners for defying the roles set earlier for actresses," she added.
However, in the 1930s and 40s, Bollywood heroines did have important roles in action films. Indian cinema at that time saw Mary Evans, fondly called Fearless Nadia, tossing the myth of the docile heroine into air.
Riding a horse with a whip in hand, fencing with villains atop running trains, swinging from chandeliers and doing stunts without resorting to stuntmen, Nadia's films "Hunterwali", "Pahadi Kanya", "Miss Frontier Mail", "Lutaru Lalna", "Punjab Mail", "Diamond Queen", "Bombaiwali, Jungle Princess" and "Hunterwali ki Beti" ran houseful.
Director and actor Rajat Kapoor said: "It is nothing new. After every 20 years, trends comes back. According to me, today the trend of actresses doing more action in films is more related to fitness.
"It is no doubt great but as far as the ornamental role of women is concerned I feel no progress is happening". (IANS)
Actors make a film. Actors mar a film. If many films have smiled their way to box office success resting on their perfect cast, there are some that have been let down by poor casting decisionS. A t2 list of some recent casting bloopers... ... Ajay Devgan in the Golmaal films As much as he tries to convince us, Mr Intense Ajay Devgan doesn’t really have a funny bone in his body. Remember Ishq? Remember Sunday? But the man who has given us some memorable roles and has no less than wo National Awards to his name doesn’t want to give up on comedy. Proof: the two Golmaal films in which Devgan was easily the one with the worst comic timing, pitted as he was against the likes of Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor who have a natural flair for comedy. And no, those blingy shirts didn’t help at all. ...
Ajay Devgan is bored of making others happy, and is really looking for some action in his reel life. Yes, that's what he is missing these days.
We heard Ajay wants to do an action film desperately. Since ‘Golmaal Returns’ was super hit, he is being flooded with offers for comedy films, but is not amused.
So the guy has decided to produce and direct an action film himself. Now, if you think wife Kajol will also be part of this one, you are wrong.
We heard Ajay doesn't have any role for her just yet, and Kads doesn't mind it at all. So while AD does some dhishum dhishum , Kajol's going to simply sit back and watch!
Madame Tussaud's displaying of the wax likeness of Amitabh Bachchan (aka Big B), his equally famous daughter-in-law, Aishwarya Rai-Bachchan (aka Ash) and the iconic Shah Rukh Khan sends out the message that they are the face of Bollywood.
And while Bollywood is an industry unashamedly built on nepotism, it flourishes on the pull of its A-listers as well as the collective talents of other actors whose work isn't strongly exposed on a global platform.
Look at Rekha, Rishi Kapoor, Madhuri Dixit, Ajay Devgan, Anupam Kher, Waheeda Rehman, Boman Irani, who have all made invaluable contributions to Hindi cinema in their illustrious careers. My point is that the attention paid to certain actors can sometimes be viewed as a slap in the face to others.
Now, I am not taking a potshot at Amitabh Bachchan. Five prolific decades in the industry is not to be sneered at. Aside from his diplomacy and admirable humility, he is an actor who never fails to awe fans with his stupendous performances akin to that which was witnessed in Black.
And a ravishing beauty Aishwarya may be, but, despite her Hollywood foray with The Mistress of Spices, The Last Legion, The Pink Panther 2 and Singularity, she only truly shined as an actress under the guidance of Sanjay Leela Bhansali (Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, Devdas) and Mani Ratnam (Guru).
As for SRK, it's futile trying to resist those adorable dimples when he breaks into a smile.
But it seems that the more inroads Bollywood makes, especially with its International Indian Film Academy (IIFA), which is the equivalent to the Oscars for the Indian film fraternity, on a global platform, the more recognisable the other actors are becoming
A case in point being veteran actor Anil Kapoor, who bagged the enviable role of quizmaster Prem Kumar in Danny Boyle's award-winning Slumdog Millionaire. While speculation is rife on why Big B, who hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati, was not chosen (see Gossip on Page 4), the move boded well for Kapoor, who deservedly tasted worldwide critical acclaim.
And then there is Shreya Saran, who recently announced her Hollywood arrival opposite the delectable Jesse Metcalfe in The Other End of the Line, and is currently shooting for her next film, What's Cooking, Stella?
Meanwhile, Preity Zinta, who has cut back on her Bollywood assignments, is doing well by endearing herself to a different market. She made her international breakthrough with Rituparno Ghosh's The Last Lear, which premiered at the 2007 Toronto International Film Festival and, later, at the London Film Festival.
The bubbly actress returned with , in which she played a battered Punjabi wife, and bagged the Best Actress (Silver Hugo) award at the Chicago International Film Festival for her portrayal.
It goes without saying that Big B, Ash and SRK have stamped their mark as the icons of Bollywood, but it is encouraging to note that they won't be hogging all the attention in the years to come … change is definitely afoot!
Ajay Devgan is determined not to copy Haji Mastan when he plays the alleged smuggler in Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time in Mumbai.
But the problem is who will play Sona, the starlet who formed an Abu Salem-Monica Bedi kind of alliance in the 1970s?
Just like Salem, Mastan 'requested' filmmakers. Amitabh Bachchan played a character inspired by the 1970s' smuggler Haji Mastan in Yash Chopra's Deewaar.
Now it's Ajay Devgan's turn. For his role as Haji Mastan in Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, Ajay will be consulting all the material on the notorious Haji Mastan and also meeting up with the Big B to figure out how the senior actor approached the complex part.
The film will also focus on an aspect of Mastan's life that Deewaar didn't touch on namely his liaison with starlet Sona who bore a close resemblance to the mythic Madhubala.
In fact, Sona was given a pivotal role in Raj Khosla's Kachche Dhaage apparently on Haji Mastan's say-so. Milan Luthria, who bears an uncanny facial resemblance to Raj Khosla and who started his directorial career with a film entitled Kachche Dhaage, is all set to recreate the Haji Mastan-Sona affair.
Whoever the actress to play Sona, Ajay Devgan is equally nonchalant. "I've never bothered with whom I'm paired with. I only focus on my character."
From Bhagat Singh to Haji Mastan is a long journey for Ajay. "The character will be inspired by Haji Mastan. But I won't be copying him. When I played Mahesh Bhatt Saab in Zakhm, I wasn't trying to walk and talk, like him. We'll take many cinematic liberties. Playing Haji Mastan is very different from playing Bhagat Singh."
Cinema in 2009 went through many changes. And Ajay Devgan feels it's time for some rectification. "Not just star prices. There has to be correction in the economy and not entertainment. Everyone got carried away in all spheres of life… real-estate business, even banking and loans."
Personally Ajay is very happy with 2008. "I directed a film I'm proud of. People keep asking me when I'll direct another film. In 2008, I also had Golmaal Returns which was among the biggest hits of the year. I want to do sensible cinema in 2009. But I also want my Golmaal. Sensible cinema is limited in its appeal. The world over the biggest hits are entertaining escapist films and comedies. It could be in a super-hero film or just a no-brainer."
Not that Ajay watches too many films. "I haven't even watched Taare Zameen Par as yet," he ends sheepishly.
Ajay has very busy year ahead. "I've lots to do. I'm producing a couple of films, directing one. Then I'm starring in Prakash Jha's Rajniti and of course Once Upon A Time In Mumbai."
Ich will 2009 vernünftiges Kino machen.
Lately, Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan have been getting along like a house on fire while shooting together for Vipul Shah's London Dreams. While the two actors had earlier starred together in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, it was only after they signed their latest film that they started bonding on the film's sets.
But more than Salman and Ajay, it is the former's girlfriend Katrina who is benefitting the most from this newfound friendship. Consequently, Katrina has now signed Ajay Devgan's home production to be directed by Rohit Shetty.
Our source from the unit of London Dreams said, "Earlier, Ajay and Salman had worked with Bhansali but they were not close friends. However, they got along famously during the London and Chandigarh schedule of London Dreams. After discovering that they quite enjoy each other's company, they started hanging out together after pack up every day. Often, they were spotted smoking together in between shots"
According to our source, Ajay and Salman often played pranks on the film's sets too. During the London schedule, they would also drink together in the evenings after pack up. Interestingly, when Salman stopped drinking during the Chandigarh schedule, he was often overheard telling Ajay about the ill-effects of drinking. What further impressed Ajay was that Salman completely abstained from alcohol even though it was bitterly cold in Chandigarh.
"In a way, signing Katrina for his next home production to be directed by Rohit Shetty seems like Ajay's gift to his new friend Salman. This will be the first time that Katrina will be doing a film opposite Ajay," added the source.
Ajay's home production also stars Sanjay Dutt and Fardeen Khan in lead roles. Katrina, Ajay and Rohit Shetty were unavailable for comment.
