After a lull last week when 'All the best' took over as the top movie of the week from the former champion Blue, it’s time for the clash of the titans. Or that’s what the trade thought. Amitabh's Aladin was pitted against Salman - Ajay Devgan's London Dreams. With both being highly budgeted, the marketing was pretty high for Aladin and surprisingly low for the Vipul Shah's Musical extravaganza. With Aladin costing Eros somewhere around Rs. 35 crores to produce and additional 7 crores for marketing it needed a spectacular start and at the same time the Vipul Shah star-studded musical London Dreams is speculated to carry a price tag of around Rs. 65 crores.
After a dull Friday for both the new movies, London Dreams slowly improved Friday evening onwards and finally ended up with an average of Rs. 15 crores net. The movie came out with respectable numbers on Monday and Tuesday too but the ongoing India- Australia cricket match ruined the smooth flow of revenue at most of the places. London Dreams will end up making a decent 25 crores net in its first full week and due to tough competition ahead will think of a 45 crore total net in its theatrical run. Due to its heavy pricing, the movie is sure to be on the losing side.
On the other side, the effects-heavy Aladin did little to impress the masses as it took a poor 3.4 crores at the box-office over the weekend. The sorry state of affairs continued for the Ritesh- Amitabh- Sanjay Dutt starrer on Monday and Tuesday too with alarmingly low turnout at the box office despite Monday being a holiday. The movie will end up with a 7 crore-week and a 12 crore-total in its entire theatrical run.
Last week’s releases 'Fruit and Nut' and 'Bal Ganesh 2' could not even celebrate a complete week at the box-office at most of the places and were taken off almost all theatres by Friday, the collection for both together hardly touching half a crore.
But the Diwali comedy All the Best still continued its run by raking an incredible 4 crore at the box office which allowed the movie to break the 40 crore mark. Beating all expectations, this Ajay Devgan movie is all set to end its run in the vicinity of 50 crores giving the Ajay Devgan – Rohit Shetty duo its second continuous hit.
Blue took a major beating this week as the underwater spectacle tumbled a disturbing 80% to Rs. 1.2 crores which enabled the movie to see its total net collection near the 40 crore mark.
London Dreams doing little post-release publicity will find it tough to sustain the market with 'Ajab Prem ki ghazab kahani' and 'Jail' release this weekend. Both the new movies carrying good pre release buzz, it would be quite interesting to see how the Musical Drama can compete with the comedy and the drama.
This weekend at the box the champion is London Dreams but the champion doesn’t look fit enough to win round two as new and big players are ready to battle it out for the coveted Box Office Crown. Can the Champion retain its position or will there be a new champion next week - let’s see in the next edition of Boxing for the box. Till then enjoy your popcorn and your coffee. Ciao!
Ajay Devgn, Kajol throw huge party to celebrate success of All The Best By Subhash K. Jha, November 7, 2009 - 09:47 IST
Abhishek Bachchan walked in with Amar Singh, instead of his Paa or his wife, at Ajay Devgn's first-ever bash for his friends in the industry on Thursday evening. Bashful and cynical about glam-gatherings, Ajay Devgn has always shunned attending parties and has never before thrown one.
But the new power-packed Devgn newly energized by the success of All The Best has resolved to let the world know he's ready to conquer showbiz.
Devgn's buddies Sanjay Dutt and Maanyata were the first to arrive and also among the first to leave, since Sanjay had an early-morning flight to catch to South Africa. And then there was Fardeen and his wife Natasha. After his successful back surgery in New York, Fardeen Khan was back in Mumbai for his first public appearance to celebrate his first successful film in ages at Ajay Devgn's first-ever party for his colleagues held at the Sahara Star hotel on Thursday night, a day after Devgn wrapped up Prakash Jha's Rajneeti in Bhopal.
All the arrangements were taken care of by Ajay Devgn and his wife Kajol who were very prominently a part of the celebrations. The party went on till late. John Abraham and Bipasha showed up much later.
But as one of the guests later said, "This party was a show of strength for Ajay Devgn. For too long he has smirked and silently watched the Khans rule as the glamourous elements in Bollywood. With wife Kajol at his side, Ajay wants to build Brand Devgn in a par with Saif-Kareena and Abhishek-Aishwarya. The party on Thursday night was the first step in that direction."
Bollywood loves to party, and no occasion is too small for it to celebrate. In fact, hosting a celebration party is the latest way to hoodwink the public into believing that one’s film is a hit. Since the media writes about the ‘success parties’ hosted by producers to celebrate their films reaching the ‘hit’ status, many produ-cers don’t think twice before throwing parties even if their films are flops.
Who among the general media understands business to question them about the veracity of their claims, in any case? Even otherwise, it is bad manners to attend a party and point out to the producer-host that he ought not to have thrown the party because his film is not the hit he would like people to believe. And so the show – and the party – goes on.
But the mood at many of such fake parties is far from upbeat. The invitees know they are congratulating the people associated with the ‘hit’ film, only because they are attending the party. Even the producer and his unit members are aware that they don’t deserve the congratulatory wishes, handshakes and hugs. But everyone keeps on the facade.
However, when there is a party to celebrate a genuine success, the scene is totally different. There’s so much joy in the party, the greetings are so genuine and nobody needs to be embarrassed – not the guests while wishing the host, and not even the host while accepting those wishes. That exactly was the scene at the celebration party of Ajay Devgan’s All The Best on 5th November at Sahara Star. Although the film can’t be pronounced a hit, the very fact that its collections jumped from 25-30% on the opening day to 90-95% after two dull days and then maintained at respectable levels everywhere was reason enough to celebrate. In other words, from turning into a disaster, the entertaining comic fare took such a dramatic turn that it is well on its way to becoming at least a success.
It was probably the sensational pick-up in its collections that made the industry genuinely happy for the film, its producers (Ajay Devgan and Kinesis Films) and director Rohit Shetty. Little wonder, the industry people came in hordes to wish them congratulations. The mood at the party was so upbeat, it didn’t need to be stressed that this was one genuine celebration party.
Ajay Devgn, who was shooting three films simultaneously, said he has been running around "like a mad man" juggling several projects and hats.
"I was in Bhopal shooting for Prakash Jha's 'Rajneeti', which was a completely different experience from shooting 'All The Best' in Goa. Then I also completed 'London Dreams' which is a third experience," he said.
Devgn said in both "All The Best" and "London Dreams", he had to overcome his stage fright and go in front of thousands of people to play a rock star for a live audience.
"It was an unnerving experience. So many people screaming and shouting trying to get your attention. Every day I am learning new things about myself. That's the only way to keep my interest as an actor and the audiences' interest in me alive. How would you like if you had to interview the same person every day? It's like that only. You've to keep changing the caller tune on your lifeline."
"All The Best", which opened this week, is taking Devgn to far-flung places. "Half the time I don't know where I am. Nowadays promoting a film has become as important as making it," Devgn said.
Preity Zinta, Ajay Devgn, Shabana Azmi, Katrina Kaif, Javed Akthar, Sunil Shetty and wife Mana have pledged their support to Against Child Trafficking (ACT). They have promised to raise funds to rehabilitate the victims forced into trafficking.
Showing concern
Sanjay Dutt, who is currently in Cape Town, South Africa, to attend an event, says, "Human trafficking is a serious concern. When Firoz Nadiadwala asked me to support the cause I immediately agreed. Being a part of the film industry, it's our duty to help any way we can.
One of the plans we are discussing is to have a short clipping before all our movies which will create awareness for human trafficking. Also we are planning to get together to raise money through shows and events."
Sunil Shetty says, "It's a huge problem today with the girl child being kidnapped and sold for prostitution. But it's not enough to rescue them. We need to rehabilitate them as their parents refuse to accept them because of the social stigma. It's important to give them vocational training and make them self-confident."
Ajay Devgn adds, "Trafficking of human beings, is one of the fastest growing problems. India being no exception. We should all make an effort to eradicate human trafficking in our own ways."
Katrina Kaif maintains, "Firoz Nadiadwala asked me to get involved and I think it's a great cause. Trafficking of the girl child is a serious cause for concern in today's times."
Preity Zinta's pledge "My parents did not sell me and I was given an equal opportunity. I want to give a message to those people who live in villages, that if anyone approaches you and asks you to sell your child to them, telling you that they will provide them employment, please don't sell your child, because she is only going to be forced into either flesh trade or be forced to work as domestic help in somebody's house.
Human trafficking is the selling of human beings. And I pledge to raise my voice against human trafficking. Join me in the crusade! Today, child trafficking has become a social evil around the world. It's time we took a stand and protected our future, because our children are our future."

Ajay Devgn can afford to breathe easy. After a couple of back-to-back films - ALL THE BEST and LONDON DREAMS - he has now wrapped up RAJNEETI. With the film slated to arrive in January, there are quite a few easy weeks expected for Ajay Devgn who is constantly being asked about his next directorial venture after a sensitive U ME AUR HUM.
"Frankly, I am still working on my next film", says Ajay, "People do ask me a question that since I started with an action film (PHOOL AUR KAANTE), would I be directing an action film next. Well, I am yet to lock on this and would be making an announcement at a later stage."
Meanwhile, one cannot deny the contribution of another director, Rohit Shetty, in his career. A friend and pretty much a resident director, Rohit has now delivered three successful comedy films with Ajay - ALL THE BEST, GOLMAAL RETURNS and GOLMAAL.
"Yes, as far as comedy is concerned, Rohit has definitely given a new dimension to my career", agrees Ajay, "I am very comfortable with him and he is someone whom I really trust. Now I am looking forward to what he comes up with next in ALL THE BEST and GOLMAAL sequels. We have managed to make a good team working here."
Meanwhile as an actor, Ajay has a lot to look forward to. Other than RANJEETI, there are ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, Priyadarshan's next, ATITHI TUM KAB JAAOGE, TOONPUR JA SUPERHERO and a sequel to GOLMAAL or ALL THE BEST in the pipeline. Clearly, the man is enjoying his status as an actor who can work in movies belonging to diverse genres.

Ajay Devgn has a weakness for Bengali women it seems. The actor is married to one (Kajol) and one of his favourite co-stars is Bipasha Basu (another hot and happening Bong). He was paired with Bips in All the Best; and is also going to seen with her in Priyadarshan’s next. Now news has it that Ajay will be romancing Konkona SenSharma in a comedy being produced by his close aide Kumar Mangat called Aithitee Tum Kab Jaaoge? Sources say that just the actor has developed a fetish for Bengali women, he is also revelling in comedy films these days. Ajay constantly talks of wanting to do action flicks, but somehow his producers are continuously offering him comic capers. Golmaal 3 will also go on the floors in 2010
Poor Ajay Devgn. He doesn't even have time to attend his own party. Ajay recently threw a party at the Sahara Star Hotel to celebrate the success of All The Best.
Being the producer of the movie, Ajay wanted to play the perfect host. But he had to rush to Bhopal for a film shoot and wife Kajol had to take over the party. The actor was in a lot of pain because of a sprained ankle, but that didn't stop him.
Despite Ajay's absence, the party was a huge hit. The entire cast of the movie - Sanjay Dutt with wife Maanyata, Bipasha Basu with John Abraham and her mom, Fardeen with wife Natasha - attended the do.
Ajay's friend Abhishek Bachchan was also spotted with Amar Singh in tow.
New Delhi, Nov 10 (IANS) Rohit Shetty says he is planning to cast his good friend Ajay Devgn, with whom he teamed up in the recent hit “All The Best”, and his actress wife Kajol together in a film. “Ajay and Kajol have a very strong reputed husband-wife kind of image and with them it (the film) should be of that class and on that level. I have been looking for a script keeping them in mind and the day I get one, I’ll definitely make a film with both of them,” Shetty told IANS.
Talking about his camaraderie with Ajay, Shetty said: “Ajay and I gel very well. In fact, now I am of the opinion that why should I go out and look for a hero when I have a man in the house. It’s like a family now.” Ajay and Shetty’s friendship goes back to 1991 hit film “Phool Aur Kaante” - both started their career with the romantic action movie. The film launched Ajay as an actor, while Shetty worked as a junior assistant to director Sandesh Kohli.
In 2003 when Shetty turned a full-fledged director with “Zameen”, he cast Ajay in the main lead. Since then Ajay is seen in all directorial ventures of Shetty — “Golmaal”, “Sunday”, “Golmaal Returns” and “All The Best - Fun Begins”.
The duo is now set to team up for the third instalment of “Golmaal” franchise and a sequel to “All The Best”.
Milan Luthria’s ambitious film “Once Upon A Time In Mumbai”, based on the life of underworld don Haji Mastan and his relationship with an actress, has been postponed indefinitely.
The film stars Ajay Devgn, Kangana Ranaut, Emraan Hashmi and Prachi Desai in the lead.
All is said to be not well with the film. Apparently Ajay is not happy with the way the script has shaped up and he is now demanding certain changes to be made.
Also the film’s budget has gone overboard and producer Ekta Kapoor is not happy with that. This has caused a rift between director Milan Luthria and Ekta Kapoor.
As the shooting schedule has also been cancelled, dates of the stars have been wasted.
Latest buzz doing the rounds is that Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan - who got very friendly on the sets of All The Best - are now planning to come together for an action film!
Dutt and Devgan, who both started started their careers as action heroes feel that their recent choice in roles (and possibly the current genre of Bollywood movies?) has left them with little space to explore many kinds of stunts which they wish to do.
The film, directed by Ajay Devgan, will have stunts supervised by the best international action directors and is slated to start shooting around the beginning of next year. Undeniably, this will be very different from Devgan's directorial debut, U Me Aur Hum in which he starred opposite wife Kajol.
