Kajol fights with hubby Ajay Devgn over MNIK Tuesday, March 2, 2010, 10:11 [IST]; By Raymond Ronamai
We have heard lots of good things about Bollywood couple Ajay Devgn and Kajol. So, this piece of news will surely come as a surprise. Believe it or not, Kajol is very upset with her husband Ajay Devgn.
Ajay let the cats out of the bag by revealing that his wife Kajol is very upset and fighting with him for not watching her recently released film My Name is Khan, where she acted with Shahrukh Khan.
The problem was that Ajay was busy shooting in Tamil Nadu for his films while the screening of My Name is Khan took place. The actor, who has finished shooting three films such as Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge?, Once Upon a Time in Mumbai and Garam Hawa, said that he is so exhausted that he could kill someone.
Well, Kajol is trying her bit to bring down the temper of her exhausted hubby by organising a special screening of My Name is Khan. It is said that Karan Johar too would join them.
New Delhi, March 2 – Bollywood star Ajay Devgn might not have featured in any full-fledged action film off late, but the actor says he still loves his action hero image he was known for.
‘I’m doing every kind of film and there has not been any effort for an image change. In fact, I still love my action hero image. But at the same time, I’m lucky that I got the opportunity to do films of different genres and people liked me in them,’ Ajay told reporters here.
Ajay has been part of action flicks like ‘Phool Aur Kante’, ‘Vijaypath’, ‘Haqeeqat’ and ‘Diljale’ among others.
The actor was in the capital for the promotion of his upcoming venture ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’, slated to release Friday.
The comedy revolves around the story of Puneet (Ajay Devgn) and Munmun (Konkona Sen Sharma), a happily married couple living in Mumbai. Their life takes a turn when a distant relative Chachaji (Paresh Rawal) turns up unannounced at their doorstep from a far-off village.
Yes, you got it right! The National award winning director Priyadarshan is said to be chalking out his next film on the lines ‘old wine in new bottle’.
Titled ‘Ram Leela’, Priyandarshan said to have rounded over Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu for the lead pair. The film is reported to be a modern version of the original concept.
Interestingly the director has planned to use folk-music for this one.
The music is being composed by Pritam while the lyrics is done by Irshad Kamil. As of now they have recorded two songs for the project. According to Singer Ajay Jhingran, there is one song that has a typical folkish music which goes like “Aao Suno Suno Ram Katha”. With pure Hindi lyrics, the song has turned out to be quite refreshing, said the singer who has sung for films like ‘Billu’ and ‘Page 3’.
Kya baat hai! Let’s wait to check the two actors in new avatars…
Ajay Devgn’s histrionics are not in doubt. So it isn’t surprising that today there’s a buzz around the actor’s latest laugh-a-riot Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? produced by Wide Frame Films in collaboration with the Hollywood giant Warner Bros (India). Trade experts say that Atithi... has what it takes to bring a smile to your lips, and keep it there!
“What’s in favour of the film is the title. It has the instant identifiable quality. Every home across the globe would have had a guest who has overstayed,” says trade analyst Komal Nahata. Ajay is happy with the final outcome of the film. “It’s a comedy that I recommend watching with your close and extended family,’’ says the actor and adds, “and laugh aloud because most of the situations are identical to what all of us have experienced. Atithi... is the slice-of-life film that we constantly crave. Even today when I see Hrishikesh Mukherjee’s Khubsoorat (1980), Bawarchi (1972), Chupke Chupke (1975), I guffaw. These are films I have seen several times over and yet when I catch a repeat run, they hold my interest because the theme and the characters are identifiable.’’
Young Amita Pathak, the first-time producer, is also happy. Says Amita, “Atithi... marks the return of innocence in a way. It’s uncomplicated and the strength of the film lies in its simplicity.’’ She also thanks her super-talented star cast that has made the film what it is. “Be it Ajay, Konkona SenSharma or Paresh Rawal, my three principal characters, each of them is a delightful actor to watch. Their comic timing is so perfect that you almost feel they’re real,’’ says Amita.
Ajay says, “Frankly the plot isn’t new. But like it is said, some things get better with age. One has seen some similar gags in Hollywood and Bollywood but the novelty factor is the treatment.’’ While the trade gives the film a thumbs-up for the contemporary feel and the fabulous production values, the hardcore cinema lovers can just come along for the ride. It’s the recommended stress-buster most people go to the theatres for.
Fortunately Ajay Devgn is not cricket challenged like his All the Best co-star Mugdha Godse. The actor was on a high for four days because he spent quality time chatting up the poster boy of Indian cricket Yuvraj Singh at a suburban studio.
Ajay was shooting for his film Garam Hawa and Yuvi was shooting a commercial. In the break, the two Punjabi lads broke into a happy banter about wine, women and song. Next thing you know is now Ajay and Yuvi are buddybuddy.

Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn, who started his innings as an out-and-out action hero in 90s super hit ‘Phool Aur Kaante’, says that at one point of time he was left with no choice but to work in typical Bollywood potboilers.
While talking to reporters, Ajay, who recently played a middle-class family guy in the Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal starrer situational comedy, ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ said that there was a time when he was offered ‘masala’ films. “The films used to be formula based. There had to be four action sequences, some songs and dances, a couple of emotional scenes and voila, a film was ready. As an actor you couldn`t protest much because the answer would be that this is the only thing that worked,” the actor told reporters.
However, Ajay made sure that he did not get typecast in the action hero mould as he dabbled in various genres of cinema – comedy and horror. “Thank goodness the audience has started challenging the film makers now. They are no more willing to take anything routine, substandard or unpredictable,” said the intense actor.
Ajay said that he tried to strike a balance between commercial and non-commercial cinema as he added, “I have worked on diverse films like `Raincoat`, `Zakhm` and `Thakshak` at regular intervals. I wanted to try out different things all the time. Some worked and some didn`t work but then I have no regrets. I was trying at least.”
Of late, the actor is busy shooting for Prakash Jha’s `Rajneeti` and will be seen in `Once Upon A Time In Mumbai`, `Toonpur Ka Superhero`, `Garam Hawa` and `Golmaal 3.`

He played a family guy harassed by an unwanted guest in his last film and in his next he will be portraying an ambitious politician. But actor Ajay Devgn remembers that there was a time when he was offered nothing but masala flicks.
The actor made his debut 20 years back, with the superhit action film Phool Aur Kaante. The image of the bike-riding daredevil stuck to him and Devgn says that he had no choice but to work in countless 'masala' flicks throughout the 90s. "The films used to be formula based. There had to be four action sequences, some songs and dances, a couple of emotional scenes and voila, a film was ready. As an actor you couldn't protest much because the answer would be that this is the only thing that worked," the actor told PTI.
But after years of being typecast, the 40-year-old broke the mould and is one of the few actors in tinseltown now to have successfully work in varied genres, from comedy to horror.
"Thank goodness the audience has started challenging the film makers now. They are no more willing to take anything routine, substandard or unpredictable," said the actor whose last project was the comedy Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? with Konkona Sen Sharma and Paresh Rawal.
The actor said he had always tried to strike a balance between commercial and off-beat films, but it has become a lot more easier now. "I have worked on diverse films like Raincoat, Zakhm and Thakshak at regular intervals. I wanted to try out different things all the time. Some worked and some didn't work but then I have no regrets. I was trying at least," said Devgn.
Devgn has a busy year ahead with a number of releases lined up including Prakash Jha's Rajneeti where he will share screen space with Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpai.
His other films are Once Upon A Time In Mumbai, Garam Hawa, Toonpur Ka Superhero and Golmaal 3, all of which are set to release this year.
The grass is always greener on the other side. One would think Ajay Devgn would be out there celebrating his latest success, Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? Instead, the actor is frowning at titles like ‘King of Comedy’ and ‘Best Comic Actor’. “I’m happy that Atithi... that carried good word of mouth publicity is steady at the ticket windows. However, I’m not happy with being labelled just a good comic actor,” he said.
Let’s grant it to Ajay. It’s a known fact that he is indeed one of the few versatile actors in showbiz. In his 20-year career, he has tackled everything from action to drama, emotion to comedy with equal ease. But it was through his comic roles in the Golmaal series, All the Best and the latest Atithi Tum Jab Jaoge? that he met super success. So naturally, that is the image currently dominating the minds of the janta and the trade.
The actor begs to differ. Assessing his latest career moves, Ajay said, “I’m going to do Golmaal-3 next. It’s a laugh-a-riot like its prequels. However, the point I’m making is that unlike other actors who have made one genre their forte, I have always mixed and matched my cinema. And I have thoroughly enjoyed whatever work I have taken on.”
He doesn’t wish to go into the history of his histrionics but in 2010 alone, Ajay will be seen in cross genre cinema. He has just wrapped up Priyadarshan’s Garam Hawa that is a social thriller based on a very gritty subject. “My next release could be Milan Luthria’s Once Upon a Time in Mumbai that is in the Company genre. Then there is Toonpur Ka Superhero that will perhaps have more appeal for children. And in Diwali, Golmaal-3 should release,” he revealed.
Ajay has also purchased the rights for a South Indian action film that will be directed by his best friend Rohit Shetty. The two are also in talks with a couple of popular filmmakers for their next films. “My line up for 2011 is also a mixed bag,” said the actor. “Hence I feel I shouldn’t be button-holed.”
The trade gurus agree that here is one actor who is constantly striving to push the envelope even in mainstream cinema. “He should be given marks for trying his hand at various things,” said trade analyst Taran Adarsh. “After all, whether it is comedy, action or serious emotions, Ajay has always given commendable performances.”
The plot isn't new. In fact it's a bit like old wine in a new bottle. “But some things get better with age,” said actor Ajay Devgn, “and that's what my new film does.”
He expects his most recent venture to rock the theatres because it was a film “that could be watched by anybody, and in any company. It's a situation that almost every Indian household will identify with and that is what is so great about the film.” He added that the film was a comedy, the kind that makes one feel good.
“It's like watching a Hrishikesh Mukerjee film - timeless, one can see them any number of times,” said he. “I know the plot isn't new but there are some things that get better with age and this film, ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge’ is one of those. The treatment is the novelty factor and I am sure the audiences will lap it up,” he added.
Ajay Devgn is thrilled with the response to his family film Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge. The audiences are really enjoying this family film. It's the kind of cinema that he is slowly but gradually moving to: Light and family entertainers. And it's really working for him. Ajay Ho!
Ajay Devgan household regularly gets fresh stock of vegetables grown in their own farmhouse. Ajay likes throwing parties at his farmhouse in Karjat near Mumbai and this place finds special mention in Ajay’s retirement plan. A source close to him said that he is planning to stay at the farmhouse after he retires and wants to grow vegetables.
For Vipul Shah’s film London Dreams Ajay stayed at his farmhouse because it was convenient for him to stay near the shooting area rather then daily travel to and fro for several hours. Recently, Ajay told one of his close friend, “Mumbai mein kya rakha hai?”
Ajay has chalked out a plan to live a stress free life at farmhouse and grow veggies and fruits once he is done with the films.

Ajay has a lot to offer in months to come. With ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE? already running in theaters, he is now gearing up for his forthcoming films like RAAJNEETI, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAI, GARAM HAWA, TOONPUR KA SUPERHERO and GOLMAAL 3, all of which are set to release this year.
Now that he has forayed into different genres of film making, it seems unbelievable that he is the same man who made an entry on a bike and created history 20 years back when his PHOOL AUR KAANTE went on to be a smash hit masala action entertainer. Really, it all seems like quite some journey for the man who admits that right through the 90s, it was the need of the situation to work in countless 'masala' flicks.
"These were the kind of films that were made in those times", says Ajay in a tad amused tone, "There had to be four action sequences, some songs and dances, a couple of emotional scenes and voila, a film was ready. As an actor you couldn't protest because everyone said that this is the only thing that worked."
He is happy though that over the years, he could afford to take a different route. "Thank goodness the audience has started challenging the film makers now. They are no more willing to take anything routine, substandard or unpredictable. You have to bring in a different flavour every time and thankfully the change has started coming in a big way now."
Versatile actor Ajay Devgan has decided to spend some quality time with his family on his birthday on April 2nd. . The actor has planned a vacation in Dubai and he will be accompanied by wife Kajol, daughter Nysa and his parents.
The insiders reported that Ajay Devgan will be away from the tinsel town for 10 days. The sources also added that the whole family is excited about the plan.
The source quoted, "It was his call to go to Dubai. He wants to catch up with his friends there, whom he hasn't met for ages. The other reason to go there was his daughter Nysa who wants to shop there and has expressed a wish to buy a birthday gift for her dad there. It's also summer holidays for Nysa too and the family is looking forward to spending some quality time together after a really long time."
Ajay confirmed the reports and said, "Yes I am going to Dubai for my holiday. I have been shooting extensively for the last one-year and haven't had a chance to take a break. Now with Atithi doing well, I can afford to relax and take a break. Once I come back, I start shooting for Rohit Shetty's Golmaal 3."
