Kellyn Gorder, who has trained 36 winners from 227 starters this year, began a 60-day suspension Sunday, nearly two years after a horse he trained tested positive for methamphetamine following a race at Churchill Downs.Gorder, 49, began serving the suspension as a result of a settlement agreement negotiated with stewards that was approved several months ago by the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission. Gorder was initially suspended 14 months for the positive test and the discovery of a syringe during a related search of his barn conducted by commission personnel, but the suspension was stayed during Gorders appeal. The Class A medication violation was reduced to a Class B violation in the settlement. The reduction was agreed to by the stewards after further testing of the sample determined that the methamphetamine was an ingredient of a popular over-the-counter medication, rather than a powerful street form of the drug, according to Barbara Borden, the chief Kentucky state steward.Gorder is required to divest himself of all financial connections to his horses during the term of the suspension. Borden said stewards reviewed and approved all transfers of the horses, and noted that many of the horses trained by Gorder have been sent to farms for lay-ups.Were satisfied with the arrangements that have been made, Borden said.Gorder said Monday morning that he had 18 horses when he began divesting them. Four are now being trained by John Ortiz, his former assistant who took out his trainers license several months ago and has been claiming horses recently in Kentucky.Gorder said that he had 50 to 60 horses in his barn at the time his horse tested positive two years ago.Its definitely had a big effect on my business, he said.Im not happy to be sitting out 60 days, but I want to get this over with and start 2017 fresh, he said.Gorder started approximately 300 horses a year from 2012 to 2015, with purse earnings each year of approximately $2 million. He is a former jockey who has also broken yearlings. He turned to training full time in 2007.The syringe that was found during the barn search was left over from an antibiotic treatment that Gorder administered to one his horses, he said. The search also turned up several bottles of unlabeled medications, but testing determined that the medications were therapeutic drugs. It is a violation of state racing rules for trainers to possess hypodermic needles. Art Warren Jersey . The catch: It needs a lot of money, and it needs it fast. LOS ANGELES -- Freddy Galvis showed some rare power from the right side of the plate -- at the Dodgers expense. The Philadelphia shortstop hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to help the Phillies beat Los Angeles 6-2 on Wednesday. The homer was his first right-handed since 2014.Wow, I cant even remember, Galvis said. It was like two years ago. Its happening right now on the right side. It feels good, man. Ive been working really hard in the cage trying to get my right hand back again. I know I can hit the ball in the gap and stuff, and I felt good today.Ryan Howard added a three-run, pinch double in the ninth.Los Angeles closer Kenley Jansen pitched the ninth, even with the Dodgers down 3-2, and loaded the bases. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Jansen told him before the game that he wanted to get some work in, no matter the situation. Howard hit the bases-clearing double to right for insurance runs in the victory that dropped the Dodgers a game behind first-place San Francisco in the NL West. The Phillies had little success against Dodgers starter Scott Kazmir (9-6). He struck out six and allowed four hits before leaving after 100 pitches with two runners on and no outs in the seventh inning.Left-hander Grant Dayton, after striking out the first batter he faced, gave up the Galvis homer into the left-field bullpen. Galvis has 11 home runs this season.Phillies starter Jeremy Hellickson allowed one earned run and struck out seven in five innings. He left after 71 pitches with back tightness.I just felt a little tweak on the second pitch to (Chase) Utley (in the fifth), Hellickson said. It tightened up on me. I tried to talk (Phillies manager) Pete (Mackanin) into letting me go back out, but its probably a good thing he didnt let me. Ill probably be sore for a couple of days.Hellickson said hell be fine and isnt scheduled to undergo any tests on his back.Howard had his second consecutive double as a pinch hitter. He has a career batting average of .303 with the bases loaded. Is hes adjusting to his new role as a pinch hitter?I dont really know how to answer that to be honest with you. Im just playing, Howard said. Thats it. Its a game of ups and downs. You have downs. Eventually, youre going to have ups. Im trying to swing it well. Trying to stick with it, let it ride. Not put too much thought into anything.Galvis and Howard were able to tag the Dodgers bullpen for four runs. Galvis homered in consecutive games for just the second time in his career.I think the bullpen wasnt consistent, Galvis said about the Dodgers..dddddddddddd. They were throwing a lot of balls. They were walking a lot of guys, and they gave us a chance to win the game.Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager was hit in the right wrist by Elvis Araujos pitch in the sixth inning. He has a bruise and X-rays will be taken as a precautionary measure.Seager went down in pain and was attended to by a trainer, but stayed in the game. He doubled in his next at-bat, a shot to center in the eighth inning.Araujo (2-1) pitched one inning for the victory. The Dodgers scored in the first inning on Adrian Gonzalezs doubled to right, and cut it to 3-2 in the seventh on Rob Segedins RBI single.REDDICK UPDATEJosh Reddick is 5 for 32 with the Dodgers since being acquired from Oakland. Before the game, Roberts said about Reddicks slow offensive start: I have seen him as a very productive player for a long time. I think you can see the body language a little bit when you hit a ball hard, and it gets caught in left-center field or you square a ball up and the second baseman is there. Maybe a little bit of over-swinging, but hell be fine.QUOTE OF THE DAYRoberts on not calling a team meeting after ace Clayton Kershaw went down with a back injury. It was something that at that point in time, I felt we were trending in the right direction as a team. And, we have a lot of conversations individually and with certain groups or as a team about what it takes to win and be better every day. I thought the guys were understanding what me and the coaches were trying to talk about on a daily basis. I just trusted that and felt that I didnt need to call a team meeting to state the obvious.TRAINERS ROOMDodgers: LHP Rich Hill (blister on finger) had his latest expected start pushed back again for precautionary measures.
