Ajay Devgan’s directorial debut is on a collision course with Rakesh Roshan’s home production.
A lull has taken over the theatres as the month of March (which sees lowest turnout at box-office due to the school and college exams) approaches. The lull will be broken by a tornado in April when Fridays would be crammed with Bollywood releases. April 11 will see the release of two big films – ‘U Me Aur Hum’ and ‘Krazzy 4’.
U Me Aur Hum marks the return of Ajay Devgan and Kajol together as a pair after a long gap of eight years. The film is also Devgan’s directorial debut. All this, coupled with the film’s feelgood theme, has roused quite a curiosity about ‘U Me Aur Hum’. And feeling the heat is Rakesh Roshan whose home production Krazy 4 has no big stars in main roles ( Arshad Warsi , Irrfan Khan , Suresh Menon, Rajpal Yadav and Juhi Chawla ) and is directed by a newcomer named Jaideep Raja Sen.
Clearly, ‘U Me Aur Hum’ has an upper hand over ‘Krazzy 4’.
In fact, reports have it that Roshan senior has got in touch with Devgan to discuss any possible way to avoid the clash between the two films. But Devgan couldn’t make any adjustment because the marketing and distribution plans have already been drawn for his film. On the other hand, Roshan senior also cannot postpone his film even by a week because it would then get sandwiched between two big movies – ‘U Me Aur Hum’ (on April 11) and Yashraj Films Tashan (on April 25).
For the time being it appears that the clash between Devgan’s and Roshan’s films is inevitable.
Bubbly actress Kajol will be endorsing Anchor Toothpaste, it has been announced.
The mother of one, who will soon be seen with husband in U Me Aur Hum, has previously endorsed numerous other famous name brands such as Asmi, Whirlpool, Tata Indicom, Parle Marie and Alpenlibe.
U Me Aur Hum is set for release on 11th April 2008 and is a romantic flick set on a cruise ship.
"Oh, how we danced on the night we were wed We vowed our true love though a word wasn't said The world was in bloom, there were stars in the skies Except for the few that were there in your eyes. The night seemed to fade into blossoming dawn The sun shone anew but the dance lingered on Could we but relive that sweet moment sublime We'd find that our love is unaltered by time."
A relationship is like this woollen dress that I am knitting. As each thread gets woven with another, it strengthens the ties that hold a relationship together. Each knot has a connection. Its you and me and how we create a hum. A togetherness, a relationship. This is the essence of our film.
In life we value things that we strive hard to create. What comes easily to us, is oft considered of little value. Love and marriage need to be worked upon. The more you nurture it, the more it prospers.
For me, love should be constant. The biggest joy of love is come what may, that emotion is constant. When it is unaltered by circumstances, the security of that love is what makes a person grow.
In love, there is pain, sorrow, joy, adulation.. a variety of emotions. Its like you need the rain to feel the heat. Likewise these emotions test the strength of our love for another. U, Me aur Hum stand for all this and more.

When we visited the sets of *Golmaal Returns*, actor Ajay Devgan seemed tense. Was it the post-production work and release of his directorial debut *U, Me Aur Hum* that had got him all worked up? Nah! Director Rohit Shetty explains, "He has to dance now, and is gearing up to do what he isn't so fond of. So, we don't expect him to play pranks on the sets today!" Looks, like AD was dancing to other people's tunes that day.

Ajay’s directorial debut U Me Aur Hum is going to hit the screens in April. What is the general atmosphere at home? Are you apprehensive since it is also being made under your home banner of Devgan Films? The atmosphere at home is pretty busy with all of us doing the same chores that we have been doing for years. I guess we will continue the same way even after April 11 when U Me Aur Hum hits the screens all over.
You have worked with many directors in your career, so how different was Ajay as an administrator? Ajay is very different as a director. He has a unique style. He knew exactly what he wanted and had clear thoughts in terms of requirements for the film. I feel he is really going to set great standards in filmmaking in his own way.
You were seen together in Ishq, Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha, Hulchul, Gundaraaj, Dil Kya Kare, Raju Chacha and now there is U Me Aur Hum? What was the equation then and now? Actually, it’s pretty much the same as before but of course the only difference now is that we are married to each other (laughs)
So as professionals, who is more critical when it comes to work? I think both us are to an extent as far as each other’s work is concerned. But Ajay is more critical about his own work. It is the same with me as well.
U Me Aur Hum was shot on a ship. It must have been an enjoyable experience. Yes, it was fun but it was also a lot of hard work. It was really disconcerting to see other people enjoying the cruise while we were working our butts off. (laughs) But it was great fun anyway as it was a different kind of experience being on board a huge ship.
Ajay and you have even sported a new look in the film And don’t we look good? The credit for this goes to Ajay as he personally supervised everything and worked with Mallika, the make-up artist and Brian, the hair stylist. Ajay wanted something different as far as ‘look’ was concerned and at the same time it had to look appealing. I think the makeover has worked in our favour.
The film also has Divya Dutta, Sumeet Raghavan, Karan Khanna and Isha Sharvani who are relatively new. Do you think they have done justice to their characters? Divya, Sumeet, Karan and Isha, are all professionals. They have worked very hard and we are happy with their work. Really, there is no room for complaints.
Ajay and you have already begun shooting for Toonpur Ka Superhero where you play yourselves along with 50 animated characters. What was it like? We haven’t started the shooting of Toonpur … as yet. When it starts I’ll let you know.
You must be excited to be back with your old gang of friends now that you are doing Karan Johar’s Mr Khan with Shah Rukh Khan. Well actually nothing is final as yet. We are in talks. I will hear the script before I decide.
Your name was announced for Rajkumar Hirani’s Idiots. But there are speculations that Kareena Kapoor is to do the film now. Raju Hirani did approach me for the film and I even liked the script. But I felt I did not suit the role. To be fair to him, I told him that as I respect him a lot as a director. I have seen his films and enjoyed them immensely. I promised to work with him on a different project in the future. I have no idea who has been cast in that role, really.
Then have you signed on any more films? No, not right now.
The music launch of U Me Aur Hum was the first occasion on which you brought your little adorable daughter Nysa in public. Did she enjoy the adulation and attention? No, Nysa did not like adulation and attention. Actually she was taken aback looking at the big gathering. She is anyways too small to know what was happening and so she started crying. I guess it is genetic. (laughs)
Like every daughter, she seems to be papa’s pet considering she was hovering around Ajay all the time. That she is. Yes, she is definitely papa’s darling.
Coming back to films, which work of Ajay’s do you like the most? I liked him in Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha and Company. Both the films had him in diverse roles and brought out the best in him.
On February 24, you completed nine years of marriage. How has the journey been? The journey has been like a flash, literally. It feels like it has been a moment in time and I am hoping the next nine years will pass by in the same manner.
According to sources, Abbas-Mustan's half-complete Mr Fraud has been shelved. The film being directed by the duo for Ashtavinayak Cine Vision, has been in the works for almost three years now.
After a marathon shooting in London, shooting came to a standstill following actor Sanjay Dutt's legal hassles. A schedule planned last November had to be scrapped as Dutt was in jail. The production house and the director are keen to wrap up the film but the chances of that are very bleak. Both the leading men, Dutt and Ajay Devgan are busy with other commitments. It is nearly impossible to get their combination dates. It is also being alleged that Dutt is not too happy that Devgan has opted out of his home production Beehad being directed by Milan Luthria. Meanwhile, Dutt himself has dropped out of Vishal Bharadwaj's Julie. Beehad has been put on hold while Julie has been scrapped. But Dharam Oberoi, the CEO of Dutt's production house, insists that the actor intends to honour all his pending commitments before he takes on any new movie, including his home production. He says that the actor will complete Mr Fraud, adding however, that the actor was booked solid for the next few months. Meanwhile, Mr Fraud continues to languish in the cans.
As always, a successful film brings on a sequel. Close on the heels of an announcement for the Dhamaal 2 sequel, come reports of Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal 2. Titled Golmaal Returns, the film will more or less retain the original star cast. Now, instead of Sharman Joshi, Shreyas Talpade will join Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi and Tusshar Kapoor. Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Arora play the female leads.
When asked if they missed Sharman on the sets, Ajay and Arshad seemed indifferent, while Tusshar said, “We had a great time filming Golmaal, so obviously I miss him. However, Shreyas is a great actor and hopefully Sharman’s character will not be missed by the audience.” We wonder if that was a compliment for Shreyas or a snide remark. Anyhow, Shreyas refuses to look at it as a case of replacing Sharman. He says, “When I was offered the role, the first thing I asked was why he was being replaced. Only when they told me it was a problem with dates did I agree to take over.” Sounds like someone’s on a guilt trip. Do we see some golmaal here?
That’s what defines Kajol’s world with Ajay, on and off the sets
Your last release, Fanna, was a romantic film. What’s the feel of U Me Aur Hum? I think the title says it all; it is a love story, it is about ‘US’. A regular love story is all about falling in love; but U Me Aur Hum is all about staying in love.
Is Ajay the director different from Ajay the actor? He is very different. And thank God for that, or there would have been a problem. He is a man of many parts. As a husband, he is very understanding. As a father, he is fantastic. As an actor, his acting skills speak for themselves. And now as a director, he is ultra clear — he not only knows what he wants but also how he wants it.
Will you take a cue from Ajay and step into direction too? No!!! Not at all. I hate being a director. Who will run behind the actors and get involved in all the khit-pit? I’m happy being an actor.
Ajay is known for his pranks on the sets... What pranks, huh? We had to deal with a very kadak and khadoos director, who would never let us do any timepass on the sets. Whenever I sat down for a break, he would come running and say: ‘Arre yeh baaki hai, woh baaki hai, chalo chalo...’
Did he give any kind of leeway to you as his wife? Both of us have a professional attitude towards work. Whenever we are on the sets, we are co-actors. He is my director and I am his actor. After we reach home, I’m his wife and he is my husband. If you are talking about retakes in a movie, every director makes allowances for an actor and allows retakes unless there is something wrong with the director.
The buzz is you have signed Karan Johar’s next film Khan opposite Shah Rukh... Well, nothing has been finalised yet. The script is not completely ready, though I had a word with Karan. If anything happens, I will let you know.
You have done very few films in five years. Is daughter Nysa your topmost priority in life? She is the most important person in my life. Nysa is the centre point of our universe. Everything revolves around her. We take care of her wherever we go. Nysa was there with us throughout the shooting of U Me Aur Hum. She also attended the music release of the film.
Speaking of the music release, it was held one day before Valentine’s Day. What gift did Ajay give you on V-Day? (Ajay butts in: “I’m very infamous as far as gifts are concerned”.) Valentine’s Day coincided with the music release of U Me Aur Hum — that is a gift for me. I also expect him to give more of his time to me, which is unlikely because the film is due for release and he will be involved in the promotion.
How important is Valentine’s Day in your life? Valentine’s Day is important for those people who have forgotten their love in their day-to-day life and need a particular day to express their love. But in our case, we are in as much love today as we were during the days of our courtship.
Which is your favourite romantic song to date? The Jab kisi ki taraf dil jhukne lage number from Pyar To Hona Hi Tha. I also really like the title song of the same film.

After being years in the making and then getting stuck in the cans, long delayed MEHBOOBA is finally gearing up for release.
While the film's main leads Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan are doing quite good for themselves, the focus of MEHBOOBA would certainly be on the leading lady who plays the central protagonist. The female in question here is Manisha Koirala who must have been left wondering if the film's release would indeed make any difference to her dead and buried film career!
Interestingly the film's shoot had begun almost a decade back (in 1999) and after that there was no information on its progress. Though there were talks around the film premiering at IIFA Awards function, Amsterdam, in 2005, nothing concrete happened on that front.
With EROS INTERNATIONAL acquiring the rights of the film, there are positive signals for the film to be finally making it to the theaters in June this year. Stay tuned!
The famous movie Om Shanti Om had a popular dialogue “Picture Abhi Baaki Hai Mere Dost” that was said by Shahrukh Khan in the movie. The actor Shahrukh Khan is known to be using the dialogue in his stage shows and the movie Golmaal Returns enacted by Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor will also be using the dialogue in its comic sequences.

Auszug:
... “I am attracted to a lot of men, but not enough to tell them about it. Besides, I would want them to woo me instead.” And who is she really attracted to at the moment? “Owen Wilson’s my hottie! I love his lips.” So, is she planning to meet the actor whilst in US? “No, I’m still waiting to meet Sylvester Stallone first. He’s my all-time hottie and I still have a soft corner for him.” And which actor does she think she’s most compatible with in Bollywood? “Ajay for sure. Ajay and me share a very strange chemistry on screen,” she says unabashedly.
