Fire strikes Toonpur ...

The shooting of Kirit Khurana's animation flick Toonpur Ka Superhero, starring Ajay Devgan and Kajol, was suspended when a blaze engulfed the sets last week.

Rapid fire

It is learnt that Ajay and Kajol were ready to give their shot. As the lights were being set up, there was a huge blast due to a short circuit in one of the gigantic twin Chinese lanterns as part of the sets.

Says an onlooker, "Within moments both lanterns turned into balls of fire. As it is an animation flick, the set consists only of a wide expanse of green cloth and several lights. The blaze, as a result, could spread within minutes."

It is learnt that Devgan immediately took control of the situation. The actor told everyone to remain calm, and not get hysterical. He quickly told the cast and crew to move out of the sets as fast as they could. Within seconds, the place was evacuated and the main studio gates which are normally shut, were opened so they could be in a safer place, in case the fire spread rapidly.

Action scenes

On that day, apart from the film's cast and crew, Hollywood action director Jack Gill (Spiderman, Superman, Pearl Harbor, Bad Boyz-2) who has been flown in specially to direct the action sequences was also present. Adds the onlooker, "Everyone remained calm and showed presence of mind. The fire control folk swung into action and the blaze was contained soon as a result, there were no extensive damages."

Continues the source, "Later, Ajay was heard saying that thanks to his father action director Veeru Devgan, he knew how to tackle the situation. His father had recounted several tales of his trysts with fire and how to remain unscated while doing action stunts."

Toonpur... is produced by Kumar Mangat and Krishika Lulla. Says Mangat, "There was a fire on the sets but it was brought under control."

Die Quelle fährt fort: "Etwas später hörte man Ajay erzählen, dass er dank seines Vaters, Actionregisseur Veeru Devgan, gewusst hätte, was zu tun war. Sein Vater hätte ihm oft Geschichten von seinem Kampf gegen Brände erzählt und wie man unbeschadet während eines Stunts davonkommt."
TKSH wird von Kumar Mangat und Krishika Lulla produziert. Mangat sagte nur: "Es gab ein Feuer am Drehort, aber das war bald unter Kontrolle."

Kumar Mangat is planning to produce a comic caper with director Priyadarshan. Sources reveal that he has already signed Ajay Devgan while Abhishek Bachchan is in talks.

A source reveals, "Ajay and Abhishek both have good comic timing. Kumar Mangat wanted to cast the actors in roles that suit their personalities. He's also in talks with Ameesha Patel. The project will be shot in India and abroad."

Comic timing

Mangat confirms the project and says, "Yes, I am working on a comic film with Priyadarshan. How-ever he is busy with Billoo Barber at the moment. I will start the project only after he completes his film."

About the cast he says, "I have signed Ajay and am on the lookout for the other hero. The project will go on floor in 2009."

Shree Ashtavinayak Cinevision and director Rohit Shetty make a winning combo. The producer-director duo came together in GOLMAAL and the results were favourable. The laughathon proved a money spinner, with the producers/distributors laughing all the way to the bank.

Now the winning combo has teamed up for the second time in GOLMAAL RETURNS. And the second instalment of the GOLMAAL franchise promises even more fun. How do we know that? Well, this writer had an exclusive dekho of its first promo as also two [entire] songs from the film [the promos will be on air by mid-September].

GOLMAAL RETURNS promises double dhamaal as there's glamour in abundance this time. Besides a bevy of beauties [Kareena Kapoor, Amrita Arora, Celina Jaitley and Anjana Sukhani], there's a new actor in place of Sharman Joshi. It's Shreyas Talpade.

What does one look forward to in the promo and also in those two songs? We won't reveal much, but here's something that you can relish… In Ajay's debut-making film PHOOL AUR KAANTE, the actor made a grand entry atop two moving bikes. The same feat was repeated in GOLMAAL. Now watch Ajay atop two Hummers, while Kareena makes an entry on a sports bike.

The title song has all the germs to be a chartbuster. The energy is infectious and you're hooked on to it the moment you watch it. It's been a while since Ajay Devgan's last venture, U ME AUR HUM released. The actor is at present busy with TOONPUR KA SUPERHERO, an animation film which will once again see him opposite wife, Kajol.

The live animation film is being directed by Kireet Khurana and helping him with the action sequences is Jack Gill, the very famous stunt director from Hollywood (TERMINATOR 2, ROBOCOP).

When Ajay was recently queried about media reports regarding some heart related problems, Devgan quickly dismissed it as mere speculation. He says that during the shooting of an action sequence for TOONPUR KA SUPERHERO, he had stretched a nerve in his back and there was some pain and discomfort. As a result, he had consulted his doctor and gossip mongers were quick to jump to erroneous conclusions.

Well, we are happy to know that Ajay is doing fine and we wish him luck with his future projects.

His shoulders have become broader. And actor Ajay Devgan is looking 'drool drool' these days. We spotted him at Bushy Dam in Lonavala...shooting, of course. Anyway, when we just dropped in to say hello, Devgan greeted us with a nasal 'Hi'. Reason? The poor guy's got cold! But that doesn't stop the actor from having a good time. He treated himself to some roadside kulfi, too, but then immediately had water after consuming the tasty little white thing, dreading that his condition would only become worse. The water remedy however was given to him by a by-stander, and it was in Ajay's interest that he listens; and listen he did!

Mumbai, Sept 04: Remember the zebra-pair in ‘Omkara’? Yes, we are talking about darky Ajay Devgan and pinko-white Kareena Kapoor, who did a great job in the movie. The film got rave reviews and the actors were showered with awards.

‘Omkara’ was a tragedy based on Shakespeare’s play ‘Othello’ but this time the zebra-pair return with a comedy - ‘Golmaal Returns’, which is a sequel to ‘Golmaal’.

In the film Kareena Kapoor plays a housewife addicted to Ekta Kapoor’s Saas-Bahu serials and begins suspecting her husband, played by Devgan, of adultery. The dumb Tusshar Kapoor from the prequel will play Kareena's brother.

Amongst the rest of the multi-starrer cast, actress Amrita Arora will be seen opposite Arshad Warsi whilst Celina Jaitley and Anjana Sukhani opposite Shreyas Talpade and Tusshar Kapoor respectively. Jaitley will be playing a half-Indian, half-Afghani housewife while Arora will be playing Devgan's sister.

‘Golmaal Returns’ is directed by Rohit Shetty and to be produced by Dhillin Mehta under Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision LTD.

The film is to hit the theatres on October 29. Let’s see after doing wonders in a tragedy, what performance would Ajay-Kareena churn out for a comedy.

Stories of stars replacing each other in big budget movies are common enough, but this one takes the cake.

Sachin Tendulkar was supposed to do a devotional movie, Vighnaharta Shri Siddhivinayak, in which he was to appear in one scene, performing an aarti.

However, he has now cancelled that plan. Due to a knee injury, he will not be able to devote any time to shoot for the movie, says the film’s director, Yashwant Ingavale. “The movie has already been completed. We have done a special aarti shoot with Kajol and Ajay Devgan,” he says.

When asked who is replacing Sachin, Yashwant replied after some evading, “We plan to replace Sachin with Rajinikanth. The shoot will take place after September 14. Rajinikanth has agreed to be part of the movie and confirmed his dates.

London Dreams is the next to roll out of Vipul Shah's factory

His film Singh is Kinng (SIK) has grossed approximately Rs. 125 crore worldwide, and Indian Films (the same division of the Network 18 group that distributed SIK) has already bagged the world distribution rights for his next venture, London Dreams, to the tune of Rs. 120 crore. By the way, London Dreams is just a dream yet, with story and cast (Salman, Ajay Devgan and Asin) ready only on paper. So you would expect jubilation on producer-director Vipul Shah's mind, right? No. Instead you find him in the middle of pre-productions for the big project in London, celebrations of SIK put behind. "Well, it doesn't take time to be written off. So I'd really love to just keep working in spite of what people call me, the `guy with the Midas touch'. It's best not to get carried away by either extreme criticism or praise," says Vipul.

London Dreams is definitely a big project not only for him but for the Indian film industry. At Rs. 120 crore, its worldwide rights are the highest ever for any Bollywood film. Last year, when Om Shanti Om fetched Rs. 75 crore, it made waves. But Aamir Khan's Ghajini surpassed it in one sweep of Rs. 90 crore. London Dreams is way ahead and is touted as almost double the budget of the film.

In many lands

The movie about a boy from Punjab who lands on the desi music scene in the U.K. will be shot in London, Rome, Paris and Punjab, of course. Vipul has merely stepped into the shoes of director Rajkumar Santoshi who was to direct the movie but left the project reportedly after differences with the film's producer. Is that why he hasn't been able to fit in his ace star Akshay Kumar into the film? "When Rajkumar was to direct the film, he had already roped in Salman- Ajay. It was in fact Salman who asked me to take over once he (Rajkumar) left. But I took six months to decide whether I wanted to do this," says Vipul candidly.

He has rewritten the whole script which, he says, both lead actors have loved and hence pre-production on this almost-shelved project has begun now. As for Akshay, Vipul has a project earmarked for him already. "In February-March, I will begin my next film with him. But not even the script for this has been decided," he admits.

Vipul's from a Gujarati theatre background and recently there was some talk about him acting in a movie to be directed by wife Shefali Shah. He squashes all such rumours, "I do not wish to torment my audience. I'd rather be a producer and a director. I have only acted in a few plays at the beginning of my career and I remember I was distinctly uncomfortable doing that. So no way am I reliving it," he chuckles.

Whenever there has been a natural disaster, Bollywood has come forward to help people. This time, Nana Patekar, Ajay Devgan and Manmohan Shetty are the first ones to join hands with Jha.

Nana has contributed Rs 25 lakh while Ajay, Manmohan Shetty, Manoj Bajpai and Shekhar Suman have contributed a total of Rs 1 crore and given it to Jha for Punarwaas.

Jha says, “Our industry has always been helpful. When I told my friends about Punarwaas, they immediately came forward to support me. Like always, Manmohan, Ajay and Nana have stood by me this time too.

Now, even Manoj and Shekhar Suman are with me.”

Ajay Devgan is mighty inspired by the success of Rock On!! Sources reveal that the actor is so impressed with the film that he wants Vipul Shah's London Dreams to take the same route.

Keep it young

London Dreams, which stars Ajay Devgan, Salman Khan and Asin, is about two childhood friends who aspire to be rock stars. While one succeeds, the other fails. Asin plays a South Indian musician who both fall in love with.
After witnessing the youth embracing Rock On!!, Devgan feels that his film, too, should have the same tempo.

He discussed his ideas to incorporate certain changes in the story with director Vipul Shah.

A source reveals, "Ajay wants London Dreams to take a more grungy rock route. A few weeks before the release of Rock On!!, Salman and Ajay did a test shoot for the film. At that time, Ajay was happy with the results, but after the release of Farhan's film, he wants changes."

Sources reveal that Ajay is trying to convince Vipul to incorporate the changes. "London Dreams will have musical odes and tributes to the '80s and early '90s. However, Ajay believes that they should incorporate music from upcoming rock bands." Interestingly, London Dreams and Rock On!! share the same music directors Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy.

Vipul Shah says, "This is totally rubbish. Ajay is one of the most professional artistes. He doesn't interfere in anything. The film does not have a Rock On!! feel."

Golmaal Returns looks a sure shot winner from its initial promo which features some comic scenes and the title track. The first promo should hit television channels on Sunday while the music will be released later this month.

Golmaal (2006) was a good success at the box office and was hugely popular on the DVD/VCD circuit and satellite channels in India after its release. Golmaal Returns looks bigger in all respects.

Golmaal Returns may well open like a Shahrukh Khan or Akshay Kumar film and if it gets the expected huge release then the first weekend will be huge.
