Director Rohit Shetty waits with bated breath for the response to GOLMAAL RETURNS. "It's bigger, it's better, it's much more entertaining than GOLMAAL," he says of his new film.
Not many are aware, the sequel to GOLMAAL happened by chance. "I was working on an altogether different story; it was meant to take off from where the first part ended. But I realized that it was getting boring. I wasn't enjoying writing it. Around that time Yunus Sajawal bounced off an entirely new story of four guys and four girls. When I read the script, I realized that it could easily pass off as the sequel to GOLMAAL. And when I narrated the plotline to Rajbhai Mehta [of Ashtavinayak] and also Ajay [Devgan], they jumped at it. That gave me the impetus to go ahead with the sequel," Rohit recalls.
Rohit is confident that he'll continue with the GOLMAAL series. But before making the next instalment of this laughathon, Rohit is working on an altogether different project -- this time with Sanjay Dutt and Arshad Warsi. "I haven't signed either Baba [Sanju] or Arshad. Nor have I made them listen to the script. It was a casual conversation with Sanju and the next thing you know, the media has already made the announcement. There's nothing official about this project yet," he clarifies.
Ajay Devgan one-to-one interviews with select television channels and radio stations..
Tuesday 14th October, London: Looking dapper in his new look for London Dreams, Ajay Devgan took time out from shooting in London to promote his keenly anticipated comedy, Golmaal Returns, which releases worldwide on Wednesday, 29th October. (Pictures attached)
In one-to-one interviews with select television channels and radio stations, he said, "Golmaal Returns is more fun and more entertainment than the first Golmaal. You can't miss it. We had a whale of a time shooting for it in Goa and Bangkok and it's going to show on screen!"
Commenting on the brilliant chemistry he enjoys with his co-stars in the film, he added, "I've known Rohit (Shetty), the director, for very long. We've worked together on three films before this, and I've also worked with Arshad (Warsi), Tusshar (Kapoor) and Kareena (Kapoor) in the past, so it was a wonderful experience."
Ajay did not rule out the possibility of a part 3 to Golmaal !
Ajay Devgan is in command. The scene being shot for Golmaal Returns requires him to be perched on two Hummers.
Boss, as Devgan is fondly called, is at home. Never mind its comic genre, it’s the burning cars and gun shots that’s got his adrenaline rushing. “I’ve been missing action,” the actor says, “but I’m coming back in a big way!” In November 1991, as a heroic newcomer, he made an impressive entry on celluloid standing on two motorcycles. Devgan smiles at the memory, “The journey has been interesting. First I was on bikes, now I’m on cars, next I may be flying... A lot of distance has been covered, and I’ve enjoyed every step of the way. The ups have been exciting, the downs a learning... Sometimes it feels like so long ago; and sometimes like just yesterday.”
But tomorrow, he wants to do more action films. “It’s the lack of great action scripts that kept me away from it all,” he admits. “Harnesses, technology advancement and what not has to an extent diluted the thrill of doing stunts these days. Action in the 90s was something else altogether. If you had to jump 40 feet, you just had to jump! You had to mentally prepare yourself, think over it, get stressed over it, perform the stunt and feel exhilarated, like a super-hero! These days it has become a cake-walk, which may be good and safe, but you just don't feel the ‘heat’!”
A lot of contemporaries, like Akshay Kumar are getting back to action in a big way. While Akshay’s son Aarav wants to see dad beat up the bad guys, does Devgan’s daughter Nysa have similar demands? “Boys are made differently. I loved watching action movies even as a child. I enjoyed Jackie Chan films in those days, the acrobatics and the martial arts... My daughter isn’t fond of action, she gets scared. Nysa prefers comedy instead!”
After SINGH IS KINNG, GOLMAAL RETURNS is the next money spinner in the offering Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, October 15, 2008]
What can 150 seconds do? Well, a lot if adequately utilized. This is what was truly inferred the moment promos of GOLMAAL RETURNS started hitting the screen. Directed by Rohit Shetty, this sequel of GOLMAAL is a powerhouse entertainer in the offering and after watching an array of promos in the weeks gone by, one can confidently declare that the film is a guaranteed SUPERHIT in the pipeline.
The film is an unabashed entertainer in the offering and promises to pack a lot with the arrival of the original team (sans Sharman Joshi who is replaced by Shreyas Talpade). Together, Ajay Devgan. Arshad Warsi, Tussha Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade along with Kareena Kapoor, Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora and Anjana Sukhani have fun unlimited as they set the frames on fire with their cool antics.
Watch Ajay Devgan arriving on two cars (he arrived on two bikes in GOLMAAL and earlier PHOOL AUR KAANTE) and Arshad Warsi getting the cool dude act right while performing bike stunts and other antics. However, the cake is taken by Tusshar Kapoor who not just takes his 'goonga' act to the next level but also joins the bandwagon of making a cool bike entry by standing on the moving vehicle in pursuit of Anjana Sukhani.
Rohit Shetty projects have always been full on masala affair, whether ZAMEEN, GOLMAAL or SUNDAY but GOLMAAL RETURNS appears to be the biggest and most chilled out of the lot. A 'masala mix' in the offering, it comes with the kind of vibes which SINGH IS KINNG came with as far as being a 'movie for the masses'.
A sure shot success at the box office, it deserves to be released at a huge print count (at least 800 just in India) to encash on the Diwali festive season. Promising to be the biggest ever success of the career of Rohit Shetty and Ajay Devgan, GOLMAAL RETURNS has all in it to enter the 60 crores club!
Now you really need to be lucky to have a sunny day with 18 degrees in London in the month of mid October. Or should I simply say that Vipul Shah is too lucky? It's 1 pm in London and I get ready to visit Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan on the sets of London Dreams. I was given the deadline of 2pm but then there was no need to rush as both were going to be on the set one hour late. Bollywood timings you know? But the result was the opposite. Being stuck in the Underground train due to a signal failure, I reached the beautiful London Bridge location 20 minutes late. Ajay and Salman were seated in their tent with a couple of electronic guitars. Their co-star, MTV VJ Rannvijay walks in. Vipul is behind the camera as usual almost ready for the song sequence with extras getting their steps right. In walks the gorgeous Asin. Both Salman and Asin arm in arm get the shot right in three takes. Sallubhai walks in the tent again where I was chatting with Ajay. I ask Salman if he could give me an exclusive on Heroes. To my surprise, he grabs my hand and takes me on one side and says, "Lets do this dude". We sit on a flat concrete seating and just as I was about to take out my dictating machine, Salman says, "The Hero is here, start recording".

"I am planning to bring LONDON DREAMS by June 2009" - Vipul Shah Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Wednesday, October 15, 2008]
Vipul Shah is currently stationed in Europe for the shooting of LONDON DREAMS. It is after close to two years that he is weilding the megaphone again after NAMASTEY LONDON.
"These have been exciting times", says Vipul, "There were celebrations galore after the super-success of SINGH IS KINNG and from there on I have moved straight to Europe for filming LONDON DREAMS. Life is busy and fun. I am enjoying working with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan since it is the first time I am getting together with them."
Divulging his plans around shooting for LONDON DREAMS, Vipul says, "One thing that I have learnt after working on films like NAMASTEY LONDON and SINGH IS KINNG is that it always pays to hire a foreign crew when choosing a location outside India. They understand the dynamics best and in case of an emergency, they come handy. I started this practice for my films with NAMASTEY LONDON and later for SINGH IS KINNG too, I hired a local crew. In fact whenever any portion of my films has been shot outside India, the crew has been out and out local."
"I had a fruitful experience doing so and now I am sure that each of my projects, including LONDON DREAMS which is being prominently shot in London apart from some shoot in India as well, would have some very good contribution from the local crew", Vipul informs.
After a non-stop month long schedule in London, the cast and crew would return to India for some crucial portions to be shot.
"We should be able to wrap up the principal shooting in quick time post which there would be good investment in post production, something which is quite vital in current times", reasons Vipul, "I am planning to bring the film in May/June 2009 timeframe."

Only recently, we saw him in command...in command of himself and the scene that was being shot. Perched on two Hummer cars, Boss, as Ajay Devgan is fondly called, felt at home while he shot for Golmaal Returns . Never mind its comic genre, it's the burning cars, gun shots et al that got Ajay's adrenaline rushing. "I've been missing action," the actor tells us, "And I'm coming back to it in a big way!"
It was in November 1991, that we first saw a heroic newcomer make an impressive entry on celluloid as he appeared standing on two motorcycles. Reminiscing, Ajay smiles and adds voluntarily, "The journey has been interesting. First I was on bikes, now I'm on cars, next I may be flying... A lot of distance has been covered, and I've enjoyed every step of the way. The ups have been exciting, the downs a learning... The first day I faced the camera, I was shooting a locker-room fight scene... Sometimes it feels like so long ago; and sometimes like just yesterday."
About tomorrow, Ajay admits, "I want to do a lot more action films. It's the lack of great action scripts that kept me away from it all." His fetish for dishum-dishum-bang-bang could well be a product of his genes. Daddy Veeru Devgan was a well-known stunt director, after all. "Yes, my love for action comes from my dad. I used to accompany him on the sets as a child, I grew up in a stunt-filled atmosphere, and that has made all the difference."
"Harnesses, technology advancement and what not has to an extent diluted the thrill of doing stunts these days," complains Ajay, "Action in the 90's was something else altogether. If you had to jump down 40 feet, you just had to jump! You had to mentally prepare yourself, think over it, get stressed over it, perform the stunt and feel exhilarated, like a super-hero! These days it has become a cake-walk, which may be good and safe, but you just don't feel the 'heat'!"
A lot of contemporaries, like Akshay Kumar are getting back to action in a big way. While Kumar's son Aarav wants to see dad beat up the bad guys, does Devgan's daughter Nysa have similar demands? "Boys are made differently. I loved watching action movies even as a child. I enjoyed Jackie Chan films in those days, the acrobatics and the martial arts... My daughter isn't fond of action, she gets scared. Nysa prefers comedy instead!" But papa is all set to test his 'fist of fury' as he returns with a 'bang' to the world of fights, bikes, jumps and stunts.
He maybe a committed husband and father, but Ajay Devgan is every producer's eye candy these days. The actor who shied away from the media once upon a time is going hammer and tongs promoting his soon to be releasing films. Even while in London shooting for Vipul Shah's venture London Dreams , Ajay is taking time out to meet the London press and promote Golmaal Returns in that part of the world.
Now if only he rubs off a little bit of his learning onto co-actor Sallu, who is slowly but surely trying hard to handle the press these days!
Ram Gopal Varma’s horror flick Bhoot broke several rules of Bollywood formula films and was nonetheless successful. Along-with being the recent film without any songs, the film started the trend of promotional music video. The movie was only two hours long, it was heroine-centered. The movie was not a love story but a horror flick and still went on to set the box office cash registers ringing.
Kareena Kapoor’s giving the Pussycat Dolls some catty competition with her item number Meow in Rohit Shetty’s Golmaal Returns.
For this, the actress got into a catsuit inspired by Beyonce because Kareena is a die-hard fan of the American singer.
“I love Beyonce and the way she is. I have tried a different hairstyle and make-up, too,” revealed the sexy Kareena. “It’s a funky track and the video looks very glamourous.” But choreographer Bosco feels Kareena purrs better than Beyonce. “Bebo looks hotter than Beyonce,” said Bosco about the song that’s been specially included in the film.
There are others who can’t stop raving about the actress’ look in this number. Like boyfriend Saif Ali Khan. The Chhote Nawab landed on the sets unannounced to see Kareena perform the song. “He liked it so much that he wished he was part of the number too,” said a friend of the actress.
Kareena plays Ajay Devgan’s loudmouth wife in the film and to get into the skin of the character, she reportedly took inspiration from Ekta Kapoor’s saas-bahu shows on television.
Rohit Shetty talks about the special bond that he shares with the star
Director Rohit Shetty has come a long way. After debuting with the Ajay Devgan starrer Zameen in 2003. Not only has he delivered hits like Golmaal as a director but he has also borne losses with films like Raju Chacha. Rohit set his foot in the industry when he was 16 years and has now completed 18 years in the industry.
Though his association with Ajay Devgan has been known for long, Rohit reveals his feelings about Ajay for the first time. He says, “Ajay is like an elder brother for me. I am emotionally attached to him. He had supported me and it was because of him that I could find producers for my debut movie. We’ve faced a lot of ups and downs in life together including the Rs 9 crore loss that we had with Raju Chacha. Also, his dad and my father were good friends.”
The director wants to direct a comedy with Rajnikanth and Ajay Devgan together. “I want to make a full-on action flick that is also hilarious, with Rajnikanth and Ajay Devgan or Rajnikanth and Akshay Kumar, that’ll cater to the Tamil audience as well as the Bollywood audience. Also, since Rajnikanth has a fan following in Japan… we could release it there too.”
Rohit is so fascinated by Rajnikanth movies that he has made Ajay Devgan do a similar shot in his next venture, Golmaal Returns. Talking about the budget of the shooting sequence of the song Tha Karke in the movie, which is supposed to be the most expensive song shooting sequence in Bollywood, Rohit says, “The song was shot with a budget of Rs 3.5 crore and the budget of this movie is around Rs 34-35 crore.”
Though Rohit has been approached by Balaji Films to direct a sequel to Kya Kool Hai Hum, he is not too sure if he’ll direct it. He says, “Kya Kool Hai Hum was a vulgar comedy and I don’t want to get into that genre. I am yet to read the final script of the sequel that Balaji Films wants me to direct. If I’m not okay with the script, I’ll let Ekta (Kapoor) know. She’s a friend so she’ll understand. If not this film then I’ll direct some other film for Balaji.”

Golmaal Returns was cleared on Friday by the Indian censors with a 'U' certificate and no cuts.
It was also revealed that Kareena Kapoor's character in Golmaal Returns is called Ekta, and not surprisingly, she plays a fan of saas-bahu serials!
Now Kareena has taken her fondness for Ekta to the next level by deciding to hold a special screening for the television czarina next week once the prints are out. Ekta is also said to be keen to have the director of Golmaal Returns, Rohit Shetty, direct the much-awaited sequel of Kya Kool Hain Hum.
Kareena's special screening will be attended by her friends Lovely Singh (who gave her It's Rocking), sister Karisma Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, among others.
Golmaal Returns is out in cinemas on Wednesday 29th October. It is an Indian Films - Studio 18 worldwide release.
London, Oct 21 (IANS) Indian and British filmmakers are expected to co-produce 10 new movies over the next two years as a bilateral film treaty kicks in, officials said Tuesday.”London Dreams”, a film starring Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, will be the first title under the co-production treaty that was approved by the Indian cabinet in April after months of delay.
British culture department officials said the treaty gives financial incentives, including tax-breaks and funding for Indian filmmakers.
“It’s good for cinema and positive for cultural ties between India and the UK,” said Simon Oliver of the department of culture.
Culture Minister Barbara Follet is to meet with Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin and director Vipul Shah on the sets of “London Dreams” at Trafalgar Square in central London Wednesday in a symbolic start to the treaty, Oliver said.
“Indian film producers are very keen to promote this treaty, which has suffered from the usual bureaucratic delays in India,” said Pervez Alam, director of India-EU Film Initiative, an organisation that promotes links between Indian and European filmmakers.
“There is a recognition in Britain that the Indian film industry today has muscle - and money-power. People don’t want to miss out on that opportunity,” Alam added.
A 2007 report by PriceWaterhouseCoopers, the professional services firm, said India and China are expected to drive the global entertainment and media industry to $2 trillion by 2011.
