Ajay Devgan is now Ajay Devgn. Yes, he has dropped the letter 'A' from his last name, as evident in the promos of his next production — All The Best. This is a first of sorts, as in the past, actors have added or dropped an alphabet strictly from their first names. It is believed Ajay agreed to change the spelling of his name at the behest of his mom Veena. From now on, he plans to stick to the new spelling for all his films.
Buzz up! Says a source close to Ajay Devgn, "Though his friends and family have been asking Ajay to change the way he spells his name to "make it more balanced" and therefore attract success, he stayed away from the temptation. That was until his mom asked him to make the change for health reasons. Last year, after U Me Aur Hum released, Ajay had a severe back and neck sprain (he was laid up for over a month.) Later, he had some health problems and a couple of accidents on the sets." His worried mom contacted an astrologer, who suggested the name change. Mrs. Devgan then urged Ajay to make the alteration, as she was very worried for him, adding that the change would add to his general well-being and happiness too. Ajay argued but finally gave in."
The source says, "This is a huge step for Ajay as he has never been too much into numerology and astrology though he believes in vastu shastra and stones. His friends were shocked too when they learned that he'd changed the way he spells his name. He has already feeling the positive effects of the change as he has been getting mind-blowing reactions for the All The Best promo." Ajay Devgan says, "I don't like discussing personal things." All The Best also stars Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse.
Bollywood has not begun to promote upcoming film London Dreams yet, but they should. The film, scheduled to be released in October, stars Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan back in an all together different musical drama also starring Asin Thottumkal, perhaps Bollywood’s most beautiful actress. It is obvious from the official trailer just released, and the award winning players cast, that director Vipul Shah is desirous of another box office smash with London Dreams.
Returning to London again, Shah appears to have no boundaries as a producer and director, shifting genre’s like a chameleon to showcase his creative expertness. London Dreams, might be the most rewarding wait for movie audiences this year. The story takes two childhood friends who want to be rock stars to London obviously. Start a band called London Dreams, the two friends, played by Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, act out a drama the drama that often unfolds when love, ambition, sacrifice and the world become part of life’s equation. Their friendship is ripped at more so by them both falling in love with a dancer in their band, played by Asin, than from all other conflicting frictions of life in the fast lane. From the trailer, it is easy to see the film is being painted with the broad stroke of passion and intense conflict that can only happen between people who really care about one another.
Other news reveals that T Series, India’s music giant, has acquired the rights to the soundtrack of London Dreams to add to their massive collection. The production crew has also created a Facebook aspect where people can view the cast on location and catch some inside info about the making of the movie. Also, rumors of Khan wooing the affections of co-star Asin abound obviously, even to the point of his buying her a flat, but nothing has as yet been confirmed.
Regardless of the natural gossip and hype destined to surround the film before release, one thing seems certain, the all star production should entice millions to view its opening, which apparently has been postponed several times. For the record, this film will probably propell Asin past many of her competing actresses in popularity in my opinion. As for Kahn and the others, their positions seems solidified.
The Golmaal Returns duo of Ajay Devgan (now also the producer) and director Rohit Shetty–has finished shooting for yet another comedy, All The Best. Set in Goa, this one sees Sanjay Dutt playing bade bhaiya to Fardeen Khan. To help Fardeen with his role of a rock-band member, musician Subi trained him on the guitar. And so impressed was the director by the duo’s rapport that he decided to cast Subi alongside the actor as part of the band! Needless to say, one of the highpoints of the film is a song, Dil kare, shot at a cost of Rs.6.5 crore. Filmed against a beach in Goa, it features 2,000 dancers including local Goans while others have been flown in from Mumbai, accompanying the film’s cast, which includes Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse as well as Ajay Devgan. Choreographed by Bosco-Caesar, it features fast cars and bikes. Meanwhile, Sanjay Dutt, who is a rock fan himself, has an opening scene that sees him riding director Rohit Shetty’s bike, a Honda Hornet.
The film is a situational comedy arising from mistaken identities and subsequent goof-ups. The entire film has been shot in 70 days, with portions also being filmed in Hyderabad and Mumbai. As for the humorous film’s stunt quotient, a la Rohit Shetty style, it has been restricted to a car chase and a romantic scene between Ajay and Bipasha, where the former proposes his to-be-wife in a car mid-air! All The Best hits theatres on October 16.
The industry is abuzz with rumours that Vipul Shah’s ambitious and anticipated musical London Dreams is a copy of 1984 Oscar-winning film Amadeus.
Milos Forman directed Amadeus revolves Austrian musicians Salieri and Mozart. Salieri is immensely jealous of Mozart’s talent. He thinks his own music is pure and Mozart’s compositions are outlandish. He tries to thwart Mozart’s musical attempts and even gets his hands on Mozart’s original work through his wife and passes it off as his own. In the end, his envy gets the better of him and he murders Mozart.
London Dreams, shot extensively in London, Paris and Punjab is the story of two childhood friends, played by Ajay and Salman who want to be rock stars. So they grow up and fulfill their dreams and both of them fall in love with Asin, the dancer of their band which is called London Dreams. It is about the rivalry between them and also about who finally gets the girl.
If London Dreams is a contemporary adaptation of Amadeus then, Ajay Devgan will play Salieri whose music is pure, Salman will play the outlandish Mozart and Asin will play Salman’s love interest. Shaka Laka Boom Boom starring Bobby Deol, Upen Patel, Celina Jaitley and Kangna Ranaut, was an awfully made take on Amadeus.
When contacted, Vipul Shah said, “London Dreams is not similar to any film. It is an original piece of work. Why does everybody have to doubt an Indian filmmaker? Just because it is about two guys who are in the world of music, so it becomes like some other film?”
Let's just wait for his dreams to unfold. London Dreams releases on October 30, 2009.
Hot and sexy — that’s the stereotypical image the junta has of Bipasha Basu.
And, well, she isn’t apologetic about it because at the end of the day, every woman aspires to be just that. But what the actress fails to understand is why people can’t see beyond the obvious.
Bipasha, who has done some remarkable work in Madhur Bhandarkar’s Corporate and Prakash Jha’s Apaharan and shown her own histrionics in Rituparno Ghosh’s Shob Choritro Kalponik besides proving she’s no bimbette in Vishal Bhardwaj’s Omkara, said indignantly:
“Despite this, if I have to fight the stereotypical image that filmmakers have of me being just hot and sexy, then it is rather sad. There are a set of people out there who are myopic.” Perhaps the Bengali beauty has a point. In all fairness one must say she has juggled the sexy parts with the meaningful ones. In the year of Corporate where she displayed acting prowess she also did Dhoom-2 where she romped around in a bikini.
“To remember one and overlook the other is unfair,’’ argued the actress. Her current lot of films though are a happy mix. There is Sanjay Gupta’s Pankh, where she is an actress on screen, Ajay Devgan’s All The Best — a madcap comedy that is a big ticket bet this Diwali, and Priyadarshan’s untitled venture where she has “a thinking role’’.
“Good work is happening,’’ admitted Bipasha. “Priyadarshan is someone I also wanted to work with. He is a filmmaker with foresight and I know I’m in a pair of very capable hands.’’ She is also happy with the way Ajay Devgan’s release has shaped up. “All The Best is one laugh-a-riot,’’ revealed the actress. “Believe me, we not only had a blast shooting it, we had a blast even while dubbing for the film because it’s a situational comedy that is so funny.’’
However, what comes as a shock is the news that Bipasha who has always had cordial relations with her female co-stars, is now having a cold war with Mugdha Godse, the other girl in All The Best. “Are you buying this story,’’ she asked incredulously.
“I read somewhere that I had stopped Ajay Devgan and Fardeen Khan from going to Mugdha’s party. Am I some mastermind who can actually stop my co-stars from doing what they must?’’ She herself was at an official event that day with her co-star Neil Nitin Mukesh because boyfriend John Abraham was not in town. She remembers wishing Mugdha and sending her flowers, a card and chocolates. “Over the years, I have rarely had a problem with my co-stars,’’ said Bipasha. “With some girls I’m friendly, with others I’m cordial. But to suggest that I have a cold war going with Mugdha is ridiculous.’’
My Ghajini sweetie Asin Thottumkal has got the first taste of how bad Bollywood can be.
A li'l birdie chirped that she is feeling leftout these days. The boys gang of London Dreams – actors Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan, and director Vipul Amrutlal Shah – didn't think it was important to include Asin prominently in the first promos of the film, as it is a story of "two best friends".
Only after Asin complained to Vipul that the director is now going around town saying that the forthcoming trailers will have ample footage of the actress, and that she is important to the film.
Rs. 120 cr. deal between Indian Films & Vipul for London Dreams scrapped By Joginder Tuteja, August 31, 2009 - 15:13 IST
Exactly a year back, right after the release of Singh Is Kinng, it was announced amidst much fanfare that Indian Films was in the process of acquiring London Dreams for a never heard before figure of Rs. 120 crores. It was obvious that Vipul Shah, maker of this Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin starrer, had hit the jackpot with the biggest ever deal for a Bollywood film.
However, as things stand today, the deal is scrapped. Indian Films is no longer associated with London Dreams and Vipul Shah is happy to go back to the old school method of selling the film to various distributors across the country.
"Yes, there is nothing happening with Indian Films as far as London Dreams is concerned. Frankly, I am not dependent on the corporate houses to see my film release in theaters. I have enough distributors across the country who are willing to pick the film and I am more than glad to release the film through them", says Vipul Shah who has announced the release of the film as 30th October and has already begun the promotional campaign.
Looking at the response that the promos are expected to generate, what if a corporate house, including even Indian Films, shows a renewed interest in the project and is willing to renegotiate? Would he be willing to have a discussion?
"See, I am doing business here. Whatever works best for my film, I will do that. But no, I am not waiting for anyone here. There are great offers already and it's a matter of time before they are sealed and announced", Vipul responds.
While the figure quoted by Vipul was Rs. 120 crores at the time of announcement of London Dreams, it is but natural that in today's market scenario, the amount would be much lesser. This is understandable too since the entire recession and slow down did impact consumers as well as the making of the films, something that reflects in the extremely poor success rate that Bollywood had to show for most part of the first half of 2009.
No wonder, while Shah Rukh Khan's My Name Is Khan is said to have been sold for Rs. 98 crores, even Kites and Three Idiots have not crossed the elusive Rs. 100 crores mark.
"These are all big films that you mention and also the most anticipated in the coming months. Hence they also serve as a benchmark for us", says Vipul, "Since London Dreams too pretty much falls in the same bracket, it would be a matter of 5%-10% drift. Our film is not far behind either."
At the wrap party of All The Best in Hyderabad, Fardeen Khan gave a lap dance to producer and co-star Ajay Devgan. It had all the cast and crew cracking up. It was a perfect ending to the film, that had them in splits all through it's making. A lot of male bonding took place on the sets between Sanjay Dutt, Ajay, Fardeen and director Rohit Shetty.
Buzz up! Says a unit member, "It was on the last day of the shooting of the romantic song Martaba — picturised on Ajay, Bipasha, Fardeen and Mugdha — at the Ramoji Rao Studios. Ajay decided to have a wrap-up party for the cast and crew at the hotel there at night as they'd shot through a grueling two-month hectic schedule and wanted to let down their hair and have a blast. Only Sanjay Dutt was missing. Everyone was in great spirits."
The source adds that the normally reserved Fardeen had a great time during the shoot. "He loves burning CDs for others and carries his laptop and iPod with him everywhere. At the party, they played some songs from All The Best and English songs from Khan's playlist. Fardeen was very emotional about the shooting ending and his returning to Mumbai. He was great spirits and when a romantic sizzling number from the film started, Fardeen came close to Ajay and said 'I want to lap dance with you'."
The actor then proceeded to give him a lap dance. Says the source, "It was very cute and sweet to see Ajay and Fardeen together really letting down their hair. Fardeen ruffled Ajay's hair, and gave him the full works. It was a fab act. Ajay was quite a sport too. Everyone was in great spirits having downed a few, clapped to his performance."
Ajay Devgan remained unavailable for comment. But Fardeen responds, tongue firmly in cheek, "Ajay really wanted me to do a lap dance for him but I declined. He couldn't afford my rates!" Martaba, choreographed by Bosco-Caesar, will be aired from this Friday.
