Tuesday’s assembly elections have robbed actor-turned-politician Sanjay Dutt of precious sleep.
Political bigwigs have been having midnight trysts with the actor, who is shooting round-the-clock for a thriller at a suburban studio. However, mention his Diwali (October 16) release — Devgn Films’ All The Best, in which he returns to comedy — and Sanjay’s face breaks into a smile.
Bollywood’s Munnabhai, who displayed a comic side to his personality with the most famous comedy franchise, is geared up for yet another rib-tickling situational comic film. He admits that the film’s a laugh-a-riot with clean humour, to be enjoyed by the entire family. Every character is involved in a series of madcap situations, but Sanjay says he was hesitant to do a scene that had slight overtones of a gay relationship. Praising director Rohit Shetty, he says, “He assuaged all my apprehensions and before you knew it, I was actually enjoying the scene.’’ Well, and what is that famous scene? Sanju reminisces, “There is a scene in which I’m fast asleep, and an equally drowsy Ajay, who mistakes me for his girlfriend Bipasha Basu, climbs on top of me and tries to seduce me.’’
Laughing his guts out, Sanju adds, “Like I said, I’m also fast asleep in the scene with my head covered, so initially I’m enjoying Ajay’s affections but when I realise what is happening, I freak.’’
The smile doesn’t leave his face. “It’s something I’ve never done before. But like I said, All The Best is a complete fun film and there are many such funny situations. Despite all my initial reservation about some of the comic scenes, once I got into character, I just decided to go ahead and have a ball shooting for it.”
For someone who looks so casual about his work, Sanjay is said to have an elephant’s memory, he can mouth three page dialogues after just glancing through it a couple of times. “When you’re doing comedy, the first take is invariably the best because most often it comes straight from the heart. Trying to replicate the same magic over and over again sometimes doesn’t work,’’ he reveals.
Well, to see if Munnabhai at what he is best at, one will just have to wait till this Diwali.
Mumbai: Bollywood producer, Karan Ramsay has moved the High Court, alleging that he owns the copyright to the script of `All The Best`, produced by Ajay Devgan. Ramsay has also sought direction from the court seeking to restrain Devgan Films from releasing the movie next week.
According to Ramsay, the film`s script is too similar to that of `Uncle Samza Karo` (USK), being produced by him.
He claims that he bought copyrights of USK from Paritosh Painter, the scriptwriter, in November 2006, who then sold the same script to Devgan Films, infringing Ramsay`s copyrights.
Ramsay, who owns the production house `Om Film Company`, also stated that Painter had tried to retrieve copyrights of the script in 2007.
In the arbitration proceedings that followed, Indian Motion Pictures And Producers Association ruled that Ramsay owned the copyrights.
Yet, Devgan Films made the film based on the same script, Ramsay alleged.
High Court is slated to hear the case on October 12. No order has been passed in the case yet.
`All The Best`, directed by Rohit Shetty is a comic caper with a star cast including Sanjay Dutt, Ajay Devgan, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse.
Oktober stattfinden.
Bipasha Basu, who now looks forward to multi-starrer comedy “All The Best”, has dismissed rumours that her role in Mani Ratnam’s “Raavan” was cancelled because her character posed a threat to the other actresses -- Aishwarya Rai and Priyamani. She insists it was an amicable decision between her and the director.
Rumour mills were abuzz that Bipasha’s role of Mandodari opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film was suspended because her part was overpowering as compared to the other female stars.
“They were all rumours and only rumours. I am not a part of ‘Raavan’ I was initially a part of ‘Raavan’ but Mani sir thought he couldn’t do justice to my role... as to whatever he had promised me would definitely be in conflict with the actual story of the film once it is shot,” Bipasha told IANS in an interview.
“So he took a call instead of being in an embarrassing position later on. He decided to tell me that and amicably we decided that it should not be done...hopefully we’ll work together soon. So now there’s going to be no Mandodari in the film,” she added.
The film also stars Nikhil Dwivedi and Tamil actor Vikram.
Bipasha was in the capital to promote her forthcoming release “All The Best -- Fun Begins” that is releasing Friday.
Distributed by Yash Raj Films, the laughathon has been directed by Rohit Shetty. Apart from Bipasha, it also stars Fardeen Khan, Mugdha Godse, Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan, who has produced the comedy.
” ‘All The Best’ is a situational comedy and a total entertainer. It deals with a lot of mistaken identities, people lying and getting into trouble,” Bipasha said.
“My character is called Jahnvi who is married to Ajay in the film. She is a straightforward girl who is trying to run her life and family by looking after a totally rundown gym. She cons people to join the gym by lying because by the looks of it, nobody wants to join it,” she added.
Apparently this is the 30-year-old’s sixth movie with Ajay after “Zameen”, “Apaharan”, “Shikhar” and “Omkara”.
“We also did a film together with Sanjay Dutt that was completed 50 percent, “Mr.Fraud” (shelved),” she said.
Asked how her co-star was as a producer, she said: “He is a very good producer. He in fact gifted me a Blackberry apart from giving me the money for the film. What’s important is that at the end of the day he is a very good friend and a very good co-star.
“I’ve known Ajay for quite some time now. He is very entertaining and makes you laugh and he’s a fabulous actor.”
Bipasha says she agreed to do “All The Best” after she realised it had the same essence as “No Entry”.
“I have done comedies before like ‘No Entry’ and ‘Phir Hera Pheri’.. And I really got the same flavour as ‘No Entry’ when ‘All The Best’ was narrated to me.
“I laughed throughout the narration and I thought if a film could entertain me so much on a narrative level, I need to be a part of it because I wanted to see it made, as it’s hilarious,” she said.
Apart from “All The Best”, Bipasha’s future projects include “Lamha”, “Pankh” and Priyadarshan’s next.
He was an action director one day and suddenly he switched to comedy. What’s more, when he went on to make the very successful Golmaal the film rocked. “From then there has been no looking back,” says Rohit. When the sequel Golmaal Returns happened last Diwali, the film broke collection records. And Rohit now feels he has found his calling in comedy. Says he, “Actually, I don’t think you can classify filmmakers into categories. I know Yash Chopra is the pasha of romance. Manmohan Desai is the emir of entertainment, and David Dhawan is known as the king of comedy. However, I truly believe that any story told with conviction should work.” About his latest comedy All the Best, releasing on October 16, the director says, “It is one of those funny films that you can repeatedly watch and fall down laughing. It is a good recipe for keeping oneself happy.”
He also feels that All the Best is special because it gave him an opportunity to work with rockstar Sanjay Dutt who he believes is a true blue superstar. Says Rohit, “I was thrilled when Sanjay agreed to be a part of my cast. He has the main role in the film, and his combination with Ajay Devgn and Fardeen Khan works perfectly.” Like those Manmohan Desai films that had big stars like Vinod Khanna, Shashi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan working wonders on the screen, Rohit feels even the Dutt-Devgn magic will cast its spell on an audience that wants to have some fun.

Ajay Devgan's 'All The Best' based on early 1900s American play 'Right Bed Wrong Husband'

Ajay Devgan produced and Rohit Shetty helmed and penned comedy, 'All The Best,' is an adaptation of an American Midwest play of early 1900s, 'Right Bed Wrong Husband.'
October 11, 2009, (Sawf News) - Ajay Devgan produced and Rohit Shetty helmed and penned comedy, All The Best, is an adaptation of an American Midwest play of early 1900s, Right Bed Wrong Husband.
Ajay Devgan also acts in the film wtih co-stars Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse.
The film, certified U/A by the censor board, is due in theaters on October 16. This is the second outing together for Ajay Devgan and Rohit Shetty after Golmaal Returns.
The 1921 play was authored by Neil E Schaffner and his wife Caroline Schaffner of Iowa. The couple also performed the slap stick simple comedy outside Iowa across the US. The popular play still runs in various theaters across the country.
One of the Daytona promos for the play writes the synopsis as: Combine a young bachelor who has told a "little" white lie, a surprise visit from the miserly uncle, unannounced visits from the neighborhood drunk and mistaken identities for three lovely young ladies and you have a madcap farce that will tickle your funny bone.
All The Best producers have been sued for copyright infringement by producer Karan Ramsay (Om Films Company), who claims the film's script is nearly identical to his currently under production film based on a script he purchased from from writer Paritosh Painter in November 2006.
Producers of the film have claimed that they have acquired rights to the play by paying $40,000. Back in December 2008 Mid-Day had reported that All The Best is "based on the (Paritosh painter scripted) Hindi play Uncle Samjha Karo which was staged five years ago in the city."
Is it possible that Paritosh painter conveniently plagerized the original play and passed it off as his own?

After Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan, Ajay Devgn has become the latest actor to join the tattoo brigade in Bollywood, thanks to his 'All the Best' co-star Sanjay Dutt who forced him to go under the needle.
The actor who has also changed his surname from 'Devgan' to 'Devgn', has got an inking of Lord Shiva on his chest, similar to the one sported by Dutt who has six tattoos on his body.
"It's a Lord Shiva tattoo and Sanjay forced me for it.
I got it made during the shooting of 'All the Best'," said Devgan who was in the city to promote the upcoming comedy flick.
The actor who is also producing the film had launched the music of the film at the Siddhi Vinayak temple, but said that the changed surname had nothing to do with superstition.

After her crowd trauma at a recent festive event, Bips now feels insecure in bheed-bhaad. Sensing her wariness, Ajay Devgan arranged for several bouncers to escort Bipasha Basu from the Delhi airport to the Ferozshah Kotla grounds and back, until they returned to Mumbai.
Buzz up! Reveals our source, "Ajay arranged for 20 bouncers from Delhi to escort Bipasha everywhere in the capital. Only at the venue, where the cast of All The Best were to promote their film at the ongoing Champions League T20 match between the Delhi Daredevils and Victorian Bushrangers, were the security guys not allowed to enter. The venue had 'Z'-level security and everyone inside had to have their pictures xeroxed and sent in earlier for approval."
Bipasha confirms that the security arrangements while travelling to Delhi were extremely organized. "It felt good to feel safe this time. Ajay is a fantastic producer and I share a great rapport with him. Over the years, due to certain untoward incidents in Delhi and Jaipur, I have learned to take care of myself. This time, thanks to the good security arrangement, I enjoyed my time in Delhi."
It may be remembered that during this year's Durga Puja, Bips had an embarrassing experience. Says a source close to Devgn, "Ajay is very protective when it comes to women. He was very upset when he had heard how Bipasha had suffered a horrible ordeal recently. Apparently, a man had come running from the crowds and tried to touch her while she was visiting the Mukerjis' Durga Puja in Santa Cruz." Does she get scared while traveling in crowds because she's known to be a tough lady? "I may be a tough lady but yes I do get scared when I see more than five guys around me. I don't blame people for their over enthusiasm and excitement but I feel more comfortable when there's some distance between me and the crowds."
Few know that Bips loves cricket. "I used to play league cricket in school. In Delhi, I got to watch bits of the match and sat in the VVIP enclosure with IPL commissioner Lalit Modi." Has she ever thought of buying an IPL team? "I don't have any finances to do that but if I could associate myself with any group dealing with cricket, I would definitely be interested."
Dus Ka Dum is all set to end this week and to grace the finale episode; Ajay Devgan and Fardeen Khan will be present with the host and dost Salman Khan. The two actors are here to promote their upcoming flick All The Best.
“Ajay and Fardeen had lots of fun on the sets of DKD with Salman. As well all know Ajay is a big prankster and thus he revealed some secrets to our host while making the film All The Best,” chirps the source from the sets.
Fradeen too bonded well with Salman. “They had a gala time and lots of fun while playing the game. Ajay was in fun mood and cracked few jokes too while Fardeen gave him support,” adds the source.
“Salman, Fardeen and Ajay gigged on the melodious number of the film and left no stone unturned to promote it in huge manner,” concludes the source.
So catch all the fun with Salman Khan as he bids adieu to the second season of Dus Ka Dum this weekend.
While London Dreams was planned on a lavish scale, recession forced director Vipul Shah to reconsider costs. His leading stars Salman and Ajay opted for a 25 per cent pay cut, instead of compromising on the film...
Meena Iyer , MUMBAI MIRROR 13 October 2009, 09:00am IST
When Vipul Shah took over London Dreams from Raj Kumar Santoshi at the behest of Salman Khan, the film was hot property because these two actors were coming together after a gap of 10 years. They were last seen in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Also, the Bollywood market was booming.
In fact, Vipul had an offer of Rs 120 crore from a film corporation for the worldwide rights even before he had finished shooting. However, the deal fell through because a few days after Vipul had negotiated this deal, the global economy turned shaky.
It is said that Vipul (thanks to three hits - Ankhein, Waqt and Namastey London) was to get a director's fee that was to the tune of Rs 10 crore plus. Both his leading men Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan were also to get big money.
Now news has it that both Salman and Ajay have voluntarily agreed to take a 25 per cent fee cut; and Vipul has waived his complete fee.
When asked to confirm this report, Vipul says, ``Yes, this happened sometime at the end of 2008. When the global economy crashed, all of us on board London Dreams - that is Salman, Ajay, my senior technicians and staff sat down and said, 'We have a choice to either go ahead and shoot the film on the lavish scale that we had envisioned it; and take a pay cut ourselves. Or we had to cut corners.'"
Vipul explains that with the shooting planned in Paris, London and Punjab, the expense was very high. However, both his leading men immediately agreed to take a pay cut. He says, "They told me to go ahead and make the film on the scale that I had envisioned, and they would be willing let go of a part of their fees."
Vipul adds, "I guess that night we bonded best. There is a saying that when you bond during a crisis, the bonding goes deep. That is what happened with Salman, Ajay and me."
Incidentally, Raj Kumar Santoshi shot for just one day of London Dreams with Salman Khan at the Golden Temple, Amritsar, before Vipul took over and made it into an altogether new film.
And Santoshi allegedly spent a large sum on that one day's shoot, which has now been scrapped.
That should give an indication of the scale on which this film was planned.

While the world of Litigation as it unfolds daily in scores of court all across the country is finding scanty references through the Indian films off-late, last one where it was in some prominence was in LAGE RAHO MUNNA BHAI, a sickening trend that has emerged during couple of years is the fights of litigation that the big films are getting embroiled into. It has become sort of arm-twisting or a hafta of a new kind by seeking legal recourse on one filmy ground or the other to stall the release of the film. WANTED was the last big film, and now ALL THE BEST is also falling into the same trap.
For a producer who already is under severe financial strain to see that his film is released, any delay of an unwarranted kind of these types, further exacerbates the situation for him, so to buy peace he is perforce to resort to out of court settlements. ALL THE BEST is facing legal proceedings from Karan Ramsay who holds the view that he is having the rights on story, and Ajay Devgan has infringed on them. Through the legal proceedings, even though financial benefits to the contesting parties may not accrue, one thing that is assured is a celebrity status for at least a single day and that too all across the major television channels. Even Marshal Mclluhan would chuckle at this development, as he had predicted that everybody would have his 10 seconds of glory, but this manifestation even he would not have envisaged. But India is India and the absurdities abound, fame ke liye kuch bhi karega seems to have become the mantra.
The trend has a sickening regularity as the litigations are filed very close to the date on which the film is going to be released and the producer has to make compromise one way or the other.
The legal proceedings are also at times activist driven who may be offended by one or the other manifestation in the film and would like the irritant to be removed. Does the thought ever cross their mind, how is it possible for a producer to re-shoot the whole things by removing the irritant? May be, they are aware so they file the litigations to gain some mileage.
The moot point is whether the courts should take suo motto cognizance of such facts when a film has been cleared by the censor board. May be the time has indeed come for the courts to factor in this premise as well, when deciding entertaining such petitions.
Mumbai, Oct 14 (PTI) The Bombay High Court today refused to stay the release of Ajay Devgan-produced film 'All The Best', slated to be released on October 16.
Petitioner Karam Ramsay had last week sought direction from the court seeking to restrain Devgan Films from releasing 'All The Best'.
According to Ramsay, the film's script is too similar to that of 'Uncle Samza Karo' (USK), the film Ramsay is producing.
The multi-starrer comedy, directed by Rohit Shetty of 'Golmaal' fame, stars Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse.
The film will vie for audience attention along with two other big-budget releases -- 'Blue' and 'Main Aurr Mrs Khanna'.
MUMBAI: MTV has decided to drop the term Music Television from its logo in order to reach out to viewers as a complete entertainment network.
The star cast of All The Best, Bipasha Basu, Ajay Devgan and Mugdha Godse were present on the occasion to wish the channel all the best for their new look and direction.
“Dropping the Music Television from under the logo is a big symbolic statement and finally closes the loop on the repositioning exercise MTV kicked off two years back. We were born of music, inspired by music, driven by music - but not limited by music. MTV is about new ideas, new formats, new ways of reaching people in the new places they choose to live in. MTV’s about constant change and the balls to throw it all away and make it new and important again. MTV is beyond music, beyond television,” said Ashish Patil, general manager and senior vice president Creative and Content MTV India.
Four new shows are being launched by the channel on various mediums other than television.
MTV Rant will be premiered only on mobile phones, MTV What The Hack will be available on the web. MTV Acting Classes will be offered on the channel's voice portal on 5056882.
Another new show Nuon MTV Making the Cut will have eight designers and 16 models to hunt for the best in fashion. It will be judged by style gurus and celebrities including Lara Dutta, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Neha Dhupia, Celina Jaitley, Madhur Bhandarkar, Narendra Kumar Ahmed, Dipannita Sharma among others. The show will be aired every Saturday at 6 p.m. from Oct 17.
Sony's 10 Ka Dum is only going north when it comes to its entertainment graph. From Salman Khan's unexpected moves to interaction with the audience, seems like he has given the channel more than they'd bargained for. The latest is that the grand finale episode would be the best of all.
According to our source, "The whole crew of All the Best was there to play the game. Salman was very much encouraged by his friends Ajay Devgan and Fardeen Khan on the sets and let out some interesting secrets about their past antics."
Adds the source, "Apart from the All the Best team, few other special guests were also invited. This included Shivaji Satam and his C.I.D. team, Krishna and Sudesh from Comedy Circus and Abhijeet Sawant and Sourabhee of the Indian idol fame."
This eclectic mix of special guests apparently made the audience's day. Says the source, "Krishna and Sudesh put up a wonderful comedy act that had everyone hurting their tummy! The Indian idol chaps too gave a wonderful performance of song and dance."
We contacted Abhijeet Sawant who says, "Yes, it was the first time I met Salman Khan. It was fantastic. I sang 'Jeene ke hai chaar din' one of Salman's hit songs. I also mimicked his 'towel dance' and it had him laughing the whole time… both onscreen and off-screen! This experience is one of those that I'll cherish for a long time."
Catch the grand finale of 10 Ka Dum on Saturday, October 17 at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
Ajay Devgan's much awaited second directorial venture is finally shaping up, and this time it will be a full-on action thriller with new buddy Sanjay Dutt as his co-star.
October 16, 2009, (Sawf News) - Ajay Devgan's much awaited second directorial venture is finally shaping up, and this time it will be a full-on action thriller with new buddy Sanjay Dutt as his co-star.
The two stars bonded big time during the filming of Devgan production, All The Best, and Sanjay Dutt is now promoting the film with exceptional zeal.
Ajay Devgan, 40 has often talked about his old love, the action genre, and this time he found the right partner; the two actors have done more action films than any other genre during their film career.
"We're working on it. Sanjay and I became really close during All The Best. The camaraderie that you'll see in the film is not fake," Devgan told Mumbai Mirror.
Talking about his forthcoming film Ajay had earlier said, 'The action in my directorial venture will be something unusual."
The film will have "an undercurrent of dark humor" he added.
Ajay says he feels the pulse of his audiences and he believes they want to see him back in action.
The film will start production early next year. Rest of the cast is yet to be finalized. Devgan says wife Kajol will not have a role in his new film.
"There is no role for Kajol in my next film. The leading lady's role in that film doesn't suit her."
The stunt heavy film will hire Hollywood's best stunt directors.
All The Best, a comedy based on an American 1921 midwestern play, Right Bed Wrong Husband, starring Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan, Bipasha Basu and Mugdha Godse, opened in theaters today (October 16).
