Ajay Devgn, who has suddenly become far more accessible, affable and voluble, says he has been running around "like a madman" juggling several projects and hats.
"I was in Bhopal shooting for Prakash Jha's Rajneeti which was a completely different experience from shooting All The Best in Goa. Then I also completed London Dreams which is a third experience."
Interestingly, in both All The Best and London Dreams, Devgn had to overcome his stage fright to go on stage in front of thousands of people to play a rock star for a live audience. "It was an unnerving experience. So many people screaming and shouting trying to get your attention. Every day I am learning new things about myself. That's the only way to keep my interest as an actor and the audiences' interest in me alive. How would you like if you had to interview the same person every day? It's like that only. You've to keep changing the caller tune on your lifeline."
All The Best which opened this week is taking Devgn to far-flung places. "Half the time I don't know where I am. Nowadays promoting a film has become as important as making it."
MUMBAI: Milan Luthria is fuming. Rumors about his latest film, Once upon a time in Mumbai is spreading thick and fast. Starring Ajay Devgn, Ranaut in lead roles, loose talk of the film being shelved is being circulated, something that the film maker was quick to clear the air.
“I don’t understand why anybody would try to malign my film. I have already shot half my film across various locations in Mumbai. I started shooting for this film in July and the next schedule resumes from the 20 October. I will be shooting with Kangna, Emraan Hashme and Prachi Desai in this schedule. And I want to clarify that my film is very much on.”
The irate director continues, “Shooting for Once Upon a time in Mumbai has been very very difficult. As it is a period film and Mumbai has changed so much, getting locations to project that era is extremely tiring. A lot of our shooting is in South Mumbai as that depicts a lot from the 70’s and 80’s with its colonial styled buildings. And we also have to shoot on Sundays a lot so that we get space and less crowds.”
Security is another problem for the film maker. As the places are small and crowded, security has been beefed so that the actors can go about their business in quick time.
Once Upon a time in Mumbai is based upon the underworld and its business in Mumbai.
The last schedule of this film will start in December where Ajay Devgan will rejoin the unit to complete the shooting portions of the film.
Mumbai :‘All the best’ stars, Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu were AT ‘the best’ radio station, Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM studio, today. Ajay and Bipasha went on air with RJ Jeeturaaj on the No.1 morning show ‘Hi Mumbai’ to speak about their upcoming release ‘All the best’ and to wish Mumbaikars all the best in their endeavours.
From nervous businessmen on their way to important meetings, teenagers en route to an exam, to young girls about to go out on their first date, listeners from various parts of Mumbai called into Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM to participate in a contest and try their luck to get best wishes straight from the stars.
The three lucky listeners who finally got a chance to be wished by the stars included a cancer patient who had just undergone chemo therapy and a pregnant woman about to deliver. Bips and Ajay sent their best wishes on air to her for a safe and healthy delivery of her child.
“The contest organised by Radio Mirchi was very heart warming and touching, it helped us to make an emotional connect with the listeners and wish them all the best in tasks for which they needed all the wishes they could get” said Ajay .
All The Best is a rib-tickling comedy based on hilarious situations resulting from mistaken identities and goofups.
The movie is directed by Rohit Shetty and stars Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse in lead roles. Ajay Devgn who has also produced the film plays a character called Prem Chopra in the comedy film that promises to bring cheer to us this weekend.
“All the best is a phrase that can be used in various situations. Each time it makes a difference because everyone is looking for best wishes so that he/ she can excel in his effort. The movie is a laugh riot because each character is caught in sticky situations and keeps needing best wishes to go forward” said Ajay .
“Every character in the movie is funny and silly, my character is the only one who is sensible and stable but owing to the situation she too gets caught up in the whole string of events resulting in complete chaos!” – added Bipasha .
‘All the best’ is slated to release on the weekend of Diwali i.e. 16th October 09. So while we wait to see if “All the Best” sparkles our Diwali, you can let the fun begin with the movie’s music on Radio Mirchi – 98.3 FM.
Bipasha Basu says she had loads of fun shooting for All the Best and lets slip that her co- star, Ajay Devgn, is a prankster to the core.
"Ajay didn't pull pranks on the actors. Instead, he trained his guns on the poor crew. Becoming a producer surely hasn't sobered him down one bit, and he kept the practical jokes coming as usual," Bipasha says, cheekily adding that she can speak freely about Ajay now that her "cheque has been cleared". "Ajay is a great actor and he keeps it so simple. Also, he is a fantastic producer and has taken care of his actors and unit really well. He ensured everyone was comfortable so that they could work to the best of their abilities," she adds.
Ajay, in the meantime, admits that Bipasha is true about the pranks but adds that he has "sobered down" from his earlier days, when he would come up with crazy stunts.
Vipul Shah is looking for a 'lucky break' for London Dreams; is praying for a controversy
Vipul Shah will be confabulating with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan to decide on the strategy for his film London Dreams. The producer-director has been in a fix ever since he realised that both his heroes have Diwali releases lined up. Now Vipul is hoping that a controversy breaks up for his film that will help him in good stead!
He says, "I am controversy's child. Both my earlier projects, Singh Is Kinng and Namastey London, were embroiled in some problem or the other - from the way the characters were depicted or occurrences during the shoot.
I hope someone finds something amiss in London Dreams and raises a voice. That will serve my purpose!" he grins. Though the censors raised an objection to the reciting of the Hanuman Chalisa during a rock concert in the film's promos, things have now been sorted out.
It is learnt that as Salman and Ajay have been promoting their movies (Main Aurr Mrs Khanna and All The Best) in a big way having them in the media glare again from next week for London Dreams would definitely be overkill.
"That's true," admits Vipul. "They have appeared in several shows on TV as well as several events to promote their films. We're now left planning a distinct promotional strategy." He continues, "Thank-fully the subjects of their films are different from London Dreams. But I can't do the same stuff the actors did for the promotions of their films."
Among the ideas being tossed around, are having music concerts featuring the stars. "As the film is about rock musicians, it goes well. But we have not decided the logistics of it yet. It is only when I meet both Ajay and Salman that I will decide. They too should be comfortable going live."
Apart from that, Vipul is also hoping that the Sallu-Ajay pairing (last seen 10 years ago in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam) and Asin's next release after Ghajini (almost a year later) will help lure in the audience. "I am also directing a film after over two-and-a-half years," he says. So there is still something to look forward to, for the audience."
It’s true that Bollywood has crossed borders and gone international.
A case in point being Vipul Shah’s forthcoming Salman Khan-Ajay Devgn-Asin starrer London Dreams.
The UK schedule of the film saw quite a lot of excitement especially when an important sequence featuring Salman and Ajay was being shot at the Southbank in London.
The Hollywood biggie, Taken, toplining Liam Neeson, was premiering at the BFI closeby.
Much to the crew’s amusement, there was a bigger turnout to see the Bolly stars than the Hollywood premiere! This seemingly made Liam Neeson himself walk over to the shoot to see what the fuss was all about.
Upon realising that a huge Bollywood film was being shot he made a quiet exit to his premiere.
Said Vipul: "Salman, Ajay and I didn't end up meeting him, as we were busy with the shoot, but some members of our crew went up to him. He was very interested in knowing how Bollywood films were made."
The moment everyone’s been waiting for is fast approaching and we hear it’s gonna be one helluva show on Zee’s Saregamapa L'il Champs!
Zee TV's Saregamapa L'il Champs has always been amongst the top favorites of tube watchers. The d-day is fast approaching and Telly Buzz has got word that it's going to be a rocking grand finale on L'il Champs.
According to our source, "The show is going to be heavily studded with stars. Salman Khan, Ajay Devgan and Asin Thottumkal will be the special guests at the grand finale scheduled to take place on 24th October. Apparently, the three Bollywood stars have already met up with the three finalists - Hemant Brijwasi, Shreyasi Bhattacharjee and Yatharth Ratnum. The actors interacted with them, congratulated them for their performances so far and wished them luck for the finale."
Adds the source, "Two famous leading ladies of Zee TV, Ankita Lokhande and Rubina Dilaik from popular daily soaps Pavitra Rishta and Chhoti Bahu respectively, will also be there to cheer the finalists. They will also be performing to famous Bollywood numbers as part of the entertainment program that has been lined up."
We spoke to Ankita Lokhande who confirms the news saying, "Yes I will be performing on L'il Champs' grand finale. I'll be dancing on Raat Ke Dhaai Baje from Kaminey." Ankita adds. "People have till date seen me as Archana, the very sober and homely girl. But now they will get to see the fun part of me…yes they will get a little insight of what Ankita is in real life."
Talking about her costumes she says, "It's the traditional maharashtrian wedding dress similar to the one Archana had worn for her wedding." When questioned who will do Shahid's part in the song, Ankita says, "I'm doing a solo with this one. So no male partner (laughs)."
Rubina too is excited about her performance and at the same time nervous. She says, "I'm doing a medley and till now I've practiced only for the first song Aaja Nachle. I'm not very sure about the costume as well as the fact whether audiences will like my performance or not!"
In addition to all these, few of the singers from Zee TV's upcoming show, SaReGaMaPa Mega Challenge which will replace L'il Champs, will also be seen giving awesome performances on stage. "The host of Mega Challenge who is yet to be finalized will also be hosting one of the segments in the Grand Finale of L'il Champs", says our source.
Catch all the fun on 24th October at 8 pm on Zee TV's Saregamapa Lil' Champs, as the battle between Yatharth Ratnum, Shreyasi Bhattacharjee and Hemant Brijwasi electrifies!!

Ajay Devgan’s next as a director is an action film with Sanjay Dutt
The camaraderie that grew between Sanjay Dutt and Ajay Devgan during the making of All The Best will now spill over into a full-on action film to be directed by Ajay Devgan.
The film will have both the actors returning to their roots as action stars. Incidentally, both Dutt and Devgan started their respective careers with stunt-oriented films, Rocky and Phool Aur Kante, respectively.
Confirming the news, Devgan says, “We’re working on it. Sanjay and I became really close during All The Best. The camaraderie that you’ll see in the film is not fake.”
Ajay’s film will have stunts supervised by the best international action directors. Both Dutt and Devgan feel that they haven’t been able to tap their fascination for stunts to the level that they should have. This is their chance to really get cracking. The film is slated to begin early next year.
It will be a complete change of pace for Devgan from his first directorial venture, U Me Aur Hum, which starred Devgan and wife Kajol, who was fighting memory loss.
The Khanabadosh track in London Dreams composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and written by Prasoon Joshi has sparked off major curiosity about the word-Khanabadosh Ever since the number (picturised on Ajay Devgan, Asin, Rannvijay Singh and Aditya Roy Kapoor) first air played, people have been trying to figure the meaning, language and etymology of the word.
Vipul Shah reveals, “It’s a Persian word, which means gypsy or nomad. It goes perfectly with the mood and context of the situation. Ajay and Salman’s characters have come to the UK from Punjab to carve their destinies on the music scene. Rannvijay and Aditya’s characters have come from Pakistan to pursue their dreams. So it is an ideal representation of their state of mind and living.”
He adds, “When Prasoon (Joshi) suggested the word Khanabadosh I found it extremely interesting and unusual. I asked him to give me time to sleep over it and to get used to it. After a while I loved it.”
London Dreams is in cinemas in the UK and UAE on Thursday 29th October and in the US on Friday 30th October. It is an Indian Films- Studio 18 release.
Ajay Devgn, who is known for his daredevil stunt scenes, has broken all his part records in his forthcoming film, All The Best. He has proposed to leading lady Bipasha Basu in an upturned car, which is suspended mid-air, eight feet above the ground.
A source from the production unit said, “It’s quite a unique stunt. We took all the precautions as it was risky for both Ajay and Bipasha. The car was suspended mid-air and Bipasha had to stand under it. Ajay had to maintain his balance in the car and, at the same time, look romantic as he was proposing to Bipasha by offering her a rose. It took almost two days to plan the scene and an entire day to shoot it.”
But apparently the particular stunt took a lot of planning and efforts to get it perfect. Says a source, ''It was something completely different from what audiences would ever get to see. Not only did the car have to be suspended from mid air and Ajay had to
balance his weight, we had to take all the precautionary measures as Bipasha was standing below the car and nothing could go wrong. To add to it, it had to look completely romantic. It took us two days to plan and an entire day to shoot.'' Well quite obviously Ajay proposes such that Bipasha could not dispose
Trust Ajay Devgan as a producer to know how to delight his audiences, and he can give his competitors a run for their money! The usually low profile actor cum producer went out to meet his audiences along with the team of All The Best to Cinemax on Sunday evening.
Seen along with him was Bipasha Basu, dressed in a sexy blue outfit, director Rohit Shetty and the gang of the comedians namely, Sanjay Mishra, Atul Parchure and Mukesh Tiwari.
The audiences were in for a pleasant surprise to see their stars right in front of them post the movie. After the interaction, the stars also took time to speak to the media and expressed their delight at the responses.
Looks like the team got all the Best Wishes they needed!
The festival of lights has brought cheer. Year after year, you look at the festive season to bail out the film industry from insurmountable difficulties and losses. This year was no exception. The previous Diwali releases had brought all-round cheer and we were expecting an encore this year.
Of course, the so-called soothsayers predicted doomsday for all three films [BLUE, ALL THE BEST and MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA], but BLUE and ALL THE BEST have proved them wrong. This Diwali, the film industry has been rewarded handsomely by Lady Luck, with BLUE and ALL THE BEST generating excellent business.
The Friday to Monday response has been covered already, so let's move forward...
A section of the media has gone ballistic speculating about the budget of BLUE. Some said Rs. 90 crores. Some said Rs. 100 crores. Some said Rs. 125 crores. No one knows the actual number, except the producers of course, and in this case, I've been told that the cost is anywhere between Rs. 70 crores and Rs. 80 crores [includes P & A expenses].
Now here's a surprise! Not many are aware that the actors of BLUE decided to forego a chunk of their remuneration, so that BLUE doesn't turn red, financially speaking. Let's not forget, it's not the film, but the price that fails.
BLUE had a fantastic 4-day weekend, while Tuesday was rock-steady at some screens, but witnessed a dip at places. Of course, Week 2 holds the key and it would be interesting to see if it's high tide or low tide on coming days. As for ALL THE BEST, Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty should celebrate. The film picked up dramatically on Sunday and Monday and was neck-to-neck with BLUE at several screens. On Tuesday, ALL THE BEST was ahead at several places, which proved that the business has indeed shown a jump.
ALL THE BEST is a family entertainer and that segment of moviegoers has embraced the film with open arms. Like they say in filmi lingo, picture chipak gayee hain. I foresee a very good innings for ALL THE BEST in Week 2. This laughathon should ensure that Ajay Devgn, its producer, laughs all the way to the bank.
MAIN AURR MRS. KHANNA got completely sidelined in the process. The film would've fared better had it not clashed with BLUE and ALL THE BEST. The overall numbers are poor.
In the final tally, the race is between BLUE and ALL THE BEST. As on this date, both seem to be shining bright!
Katrina is the latest victim of this serial prankster! Ajay Devgn made his Rajneeti co-star Katrina gift Nana Patekar a cake box containing old underwear, a single chappal and a fake moustache.
Recently, on the sets of Prakash Jha's Rajneeti, Ajay took Arjun Rampal and Manoj Bajpayee into confidence and pulled a joke on his leading lady.
The trio told the actress that it was Nana Patekar's birthday and they said that since he was in a bad mood, Katrina ought to wish him and present him with a gift box. Poor Katrina wasn't aware that the cake box actually contained some funny items.
A source from the unit reveals, "This prank was Ajay's brain child and he took everyone on the sets in confidence. The trio walked up to Katrina and told her it was Nana's birthday and that they were throwing a party for him. They told her that she had to dress modestly in Indian attire, as Nana was very particular about how women dressed."
Kat hurriedly dressed up in a salwar-kameez and walked up to Nana with a box given by Ajay. "When Nana opened the box he was shocked to find old underwear, a single chappal and a fake moustache as a gift. Kat was horrified."
A source close to Kat adds, "She was embarrassed and turned beet red. Everyone including Ajay, Arjun and Manoj started laughing hysterically. Nana finally told her it was a prank and that she should be more careful with Ajay from now .
You would have thought, with two other big budget, multi-star films releasing tomorrow alongside his All the Best, Fun Begins..., producer-actor Ajay Devgn might be in an excitable state of nerves
Far from it! On Monday evening, when I met him at home over coffee, Ajay was uber cool. Also, sleepy. That’s because it was 8 pm and in the Devgn bungalow at JVPD, it’s lights out at 9. “My daughter Nysa won’t sleep without me,” said Ajay explaining the early nights. “But, yes, I saw the film again yesterday with family and friends who are absolutely honest in their criticism. And, from seven to 65, they were all laughing non-stop! My mother, who normally worries about my releases, was relaxed. And I’ve never seen my father laughing so much. So I’m quite confident the film will work.”
He’s busy dubbing for London Dreams with Salman Khan. And shooting with Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor for Rajniti. But it’s All the Best that Ajay is living right now. And happily for the producer in him, the book on this Devgn Films release is that it is a clean comedy that families can enjoy for Diwali, there are no double meaning dialogues at the cost of humour, the situations in the script are hilarious, the performances by Sanjay Dutt, Bipasha Basu, Fardeen Khan and, well, Ajay himself are funny and riotous. “The film takes ten minutes to sink in,” Ajay revealed, “but from then on until the climax, you’ll laugh. There is an emotional moment in between. It’s needed. You take a rest in between laughing!”
I understand the production of the film in Goa and Hyderabad was one big party. “We had a blast,” Ajay agreed, “this is a good team, and for 80 to 90 per cent of the film, all the characters are in every scene. Well, five are definitely there... and there are seven or eight characters. The climax has 20! All complement each other. When you are comfortable with your co-stars, when the entire cast understands that the film is the most important thing, then there is no stress. It’s team work. You can see that in All the Best. There’s great rapport between Sanju and me, Bips and I always get along well, Fardeen - I just got to know, but what a great guy he is, and Mugdha took just a day to get comfortable.”
Ajay is handsome in his praise for his director, Rohit Shetty, who apparently knows the pulse of comedies. “A comedy improvises,” said Ajay, “but how much works, when do you stop stretching it? Rohit has mastered the knack of entertaining audiences. He stopped well within the limit.” And he’s also generous in his acknowledgement of Sanjay Dutt’s performance: “His best - after Munnabhai, what timing, but Sanju was behaving like a producer... he was more worried about the film than me!” His own performance, Ajay is naturally reluctant to discuss. From action and intense roles that won him two National Awards, he’s now doing comedies. “I’m honest at what I do,” he shrugged, “and I guess that works.”
It was getting onto 9 pm and Ajay was stubbing out his last cigarette when the door burst open. Little Nysa bounded in, cutely dressed for bed, but with a reserve amount of energy and mischief left in her to fuss over her father. “How long,” she demanded. “Five minutes, sweetheart,” the big Bollywood producer-actor said unconvincingly. She picked up his phone meaningfully and began to fiddle with the keys. “Nysa... please, not my phone,” Ajay was pleading. “All the best,” I told him slipping out.
By Robin Bansal New Delhi, Oct 15 (IANS) You can laugh your way through his comedies, but director Rohit Shetty says it took a 19-day, mindboggling session for him and his team to crack the climax of his new film “All The Best - Fun Begins” that releases Friday.
“There is a common perception that scripting a comedy is the easiest thing to do, but it is the most difficult thing,” Shetty, who was here to promote the film, told IANS in an interview.
“We had to write close to 15 drafts for the ‘All The Best’ climax and it took us around 19 days to write it and figure out what the end should be because it is very dialogue-oriented.”
Produced by Ajay Devgn, the cast includes him along with Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse.
“The climax is very unpredictable…but in the sense that it is not something new or something different or never seen. At the same time, it doesn’t even end the way audiences would be thinking…it takes a turn and that is the best part of the film.”
“The whole strategy behind comedies is very easy. If I am laughing in the scripting room with my team that means the audiences are also going to laugh. It’s a very simple theory, but it’s very difficult to implement,” he explained.
Comedies also seem to have taken the 35-year-old by storm, as he has decided to stick to the genre. He has already made successful lighthearted entertainers like “Golmaal”, “Sunday” and “Golmaal Returns”.
“I am not shifting my genre (comedy) at least for the coming five years because people want me to do films like that and they are paying me for it; so why should I change? I don’t want to disappoint my audiences by doing something else,” he said.
“All The Best” is releasing with two other big budget movies, “Blue” and “Main Aurr Mrs Khanna”, but Shetty is unperturbed by the competition.
“We will be affecting each other’s business in the first week for sure, but content will matter and the film that is good will run till the second week. Nobody is thinking about that. The real weekend will start Oct 19 onwards,” he said.
Shetty is otherwise confident of his film.
“I have a gut feeling that this one will work for sure. I don’t know how big it will be or what business it will do, but what I really know is once the audiences come out of the theatre, they’ll definitely have a smile on their faces,” he said.
Rumours are also rife about a sequel to “All The Best”.
Shetty said: “It’s too early to say. We are just waiting to see how it goes and how the audience takes to it. And how they react after watching the film. For that matter I also keep on visiting the internet and reading what they want.”
And what about the third instalment in the “Golmaal” franchise?
“We have cracked the story, but we need to write the screenplay, the situations and the dialogues. It’s a long procedure that will take around six months. We’ll start filming may be by mid-next year,” he said.
