With three hits behind him Ajay Devgn is having the time of his life and the actor is set to tickle the funny bone once again with 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, a film which he says will remind people of comic genius Hrishikesh Mukherjee's movies.
The actor, who has become a successful name in the genre of comedy, with hits like 'Golmaal', 'Golmaal Returns' and 'All The Best', plays the role of a reluctant host, trying his best to get rid of an uninvited guest in the film, which is an adaptation of noted satirist Sharad Joshi's short story 'Tum Kab Jaaoge Atithi'.
Konkona Sen plays Devgn's wife with Paresh Rawal being the uninvited guest.
"It is a Hrishikesh Mukherjee kind of a film. Remember his films when we used to get emotional and also smile as the scenes unfolded. That's the bracket that 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?' finds itself in. It has the kind of humour which is clean and quite rib tickling," Devgn said.
The 40-year-old actor said that the USP of the film is it's script and despite being low on budget, it is high on innovative presentation.
"The film is not very big budgeted and neither is it a multi starrer. However, what is of utmost importance here is that it has a solid script which makes it worth it. A good balance is maintained between what is presented on screen and how it looks. That has pretty much been taken care by (director) Ashwani Dhir," Devgn said.
Devgn is elated with the good response to the movie in a recent target screening done at Mumbai, where it saw a 76 per cent positive response.
"We were always confident about the film but such acceptance made us further assured that audiences are still rooting for clean comedies. We showed the film recently to a set of people belonging to both class and mass audience. It was amazing to see 76 per cent votes in movie's favour," the actor said.
Devgn, however does not want to slot 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaaoge' as a core multiplex film and instead insists that the subject and treatment is the kind that would reach out to all kind of audiences.
"The film targets masses as well, if that forms the criteria of the differentiation between the single screen and multiple audience," said Devgn.
Produced by Amita Pathak, daughter of Ajay Devgn's close associate and friend Kumar Mangat, the film releases on March 5.
After Sharman Joshi, it's Arshad Warsi who has dropped out of Golmaal 3. It is learnt that after the success of Ishqiya, the actor did not want be part of a multi-starrer and wants to do more solo hero projects where there is scope for performance.
Also, he feels that even if he agrees to be part of a multi-starrer, he should be paid well. He apparently asked for Rs 3 crore for the Golmaal sequel.
Unhappy Arshad, who was part of the first two installments was not happy with his character in the third. Apart from that, he was also unhappy with the difference in the fees offered to him and the other actors. Director Rohit Shetty is stressed about getting the cast together for the film. As of now, the only actors who have been confirmed are Ajay, Tusshar, Shreyas, Kunal Khemu (in stead of Sharman Joshi), Kareena and Mithun (instead of Paresh Rawal).
A source adds, "Arshad is now busy with his long delayed home production Kaun Bola. Besides that, he's only entertaining scripts that have him as a parallel lead. He doesn't want to play a sidekick or do multi-hero projects."
Hopeful Meanwhile Rohit is still hoping to meet Arshad one final time to convince him to bring his price down in the interest of the film. Also Rohit wants to try and keep the original team intact. With both Sharman and Arshad gone, the film won't have the same feel. However, Warsi seems adamant about sticking to his initial quote of 3 crore!
Producer Ashtavinayak's spokesperson confirms that Rohit and Arshad are trying to reach a negotiation. The cast leaves for Goa in April to begin the film's first schedule.

After directing two super hit films in the Golmaal series, Rohit Shetty's third installment in the franchise Golmaal 3 is being awaited eagerly. In fact, during the past few days, there has been a lot of speculation about various names being part of the cast of this much awaited film. Hence, we decided it was best to verify with the man himself on who actually forms the principal cast.
When we got in touch with Rohit Shetty asking him about the final cast of Golmaal 3, the talented director replied in his trademark humorous style, "There is so much speculation going around about the cast, it seems like I am making a Mughal-e-Azam". Speaking about the cast, Rohit said, "Let me clear all misconceptions once and for all. Golmaal 3 stars Ajay Devgn, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Arshad Warsi, Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah in principal roles. Besides some of my favorite actors like Johnny Lever, Murli Sharma, Ashwini Kalsekar and Sanjay Mishra also form the supporting cast."
Speaking on some of the new members of the Golmaal family, Rohit says, "Yes we have Kunal Khemu, Mithun Chakraborty and Ratna Pathak Shah as new members of the cast. They are all new characters in the plot. Contrary to rumors, Mithun is not playing the character played by Paresh Rawal in the first part. It's a completely new character. Mithun and Ratna Pathak Shah's characters also end up getting married during the course of the film"
We also asked him about the buzz doing the rounds that Arshad was not a part of the film. "No...Arshad is very much a part of Golmaal 3. In fact, we just finalized things with him today morning."
Rohit begins filming Golmaal 3 with a 10 day schedule in Mumbai starting March 20 followed by a 50 day schedule at his favorite location Goa. Like his previous two films- All The Best and Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3 too will have a grand Diwali release on Nov 5 this year.
Besides Golmaal 3, Rohit is all set to direct his close buddy Ajay Devgn in an out and out action film. The film is apparently a remake of the 2009 Malayalam film Puthiya Mukham and is a solo hero film. In fact, the rights of the Malayalam film have already been acquired and in all probability Ajay Devgn himself along with Shree Ashtavinayak Cine Vision Ltd. will be producing this film. When we asked Rohit about this project, he did confirm the same but refused to reveal much at this stage.
It's an all-organic produce on Ajay's farm in Karjat. He also drives the family's bachchas to get gardening, instilling in them a love for the ecosystem
Ajay Devgn is running his own green project at his 28-acre property -- Devgan Farms -- in Karjat, on the outskirts of Mumbai. Not only does he grow everything organically -- from grains to fruits -- he is also instilling the same values in the children of the family.
Ajay confirms, "All the children in my family -- including my daughter Nysa and my nieces and nephews -- have to plant a sapling every year on their birthdays -- with their names. There's no particular tree or plant -- they can choose what they want to plant but they have to plant one -- it's compulsory. The children enjoy doing that. It's great to see a plant flourishing under your name."
Growing it all Devgan Farms grows an assortment of fruits and vegetables -- papaya, brinjal, lady finger, radish, rice, fresh tomatoes -- they have it all. Ajay adds, "The children love visiting the farm as there is no greenery, tress or open spaces in Mumbai. They carry the vegetables back home with them and try out various delicacies. It's a different kind of joy to pick fresh vegetables and cook them. We have open- air picnics too when we visit Karjat."
Though Ajay doesn't grow anything for commercial purposes, extra papayas, bananas and berries from his farm are sold at the Vashi local market on a regular basis. And vegetables from the farm are sent to his Juhu home. A qualified staff looks after the day-to-day supervision of the farm.
Keeping abreast Ajay says that he keeps himself abreast of whatever agricultural advancements that are happening in India and the world. "Though farming is not a business for me, I can understand what farmers are going through today. Global warming has lead to such difficult climactic conditions that even growing papayas in normal seasons has become virtually impossible. We will have to look for alternative means if we need to grow certain seasonal fruits and vegetables."
The actor concludes, "We use no artificial fertilisers. Everything is grown organically. Healthy food leads to healthy living."
Ratna Pathak Shah is latest addition to the cast. Plays Mithun's wife in Golmaal 3
Even before Golmaal 3 goes on the floors, it has been creating a buzz with regards to its casting -- who is in and who is out of the comic caper.
The latest addition to the multi-starrer is Ratna Pathak Shah who rarely steps out in Bollywood. Naseeruddin Shah's wife, seen mostly in his plays, has given her consent to be a part of the film's third outing.
Says director Rohit Shetty, "She has a terrific sense of comedy. Those who have seen her in Sarabhai v/s Sarabhai on TV will remember her role as the high- society mother-in-law. I met her and after hearing the script, she agreed on the spot."
Ratna will play Mithun Chakraborty's wife in G3. "She plays a pivotal role and though it is a comedy, she is part of the suspense track," informs Rohit.
The cast of G3 includes Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor, Tusshar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade and Kunal Khemu. "There is also my gang which include Johnny Lever, Ashwini Kalsekar, Sanjay Mishra among others who are always part of my films," adds Rohit.
As reported No Golmaal for Arshad, the actor has asked for a fee hike to be part of G3. "That issue is between the producers (Ashtavinayak) and Arshad Warsi to sort out. Arshad heard the script and called and told me he loved it. I don't need to go around convincing anyone. If he does not do it, we will then have to find another actor. It is a multi-starrer and yet another sequel, so changes in cast are bound to happen."
Rohit has already scoured locations in Goa for G3. "I begin a start-to-finish schedule from March to May followed by a bit of shoot in Mumbai. The film will release in time for Diwali."

It's been ages since we saw Ajay Devgan do some dish-dash-doom-boom! He's been busy making the audiences laugh with flicks like 'Golmaal' and 'All The Best', but the actor has got his adrenaline rushing and has decided to engage in some action film and return to the action hero image he once enjoyed!
It is heard that the movie is a remake of a popular South film 'Puthiya Mukham' being produced by Ajay's home banner. Ajay is known to have bought the rights of the 'Puthiya...' from Anil Mathew and Murugan, and has made this film a priority. If sources are to be believed, Ajay has put on hold movies like 'Golmaal 3' and the sequel to 'All The Best', as he once again teams up with director Roit Shetty who will direct the Hindi version of 'Puthiya...'
With the success of South Indian remakes these days - Ghajini, Wanted - hopes are high on this one, too!
The prolific Priyadarshan's reputation after his television appearance calling the conflict between the Shiv Sena and Shah Rukh Khan a publicity stunt, has put him in the 'block' list of many important cellphones in Mumbai.
Predictably Priyan pleads innocence. “I was quoted out of context. I'd never speak like that about Shah Rukh Khan and Karan Johar. They've both been very nice to me. If I've hurt either of them I apologize to them publicly, and would like to add that in any conflict between filmmakers and politicians I'd naturally and inevitably support my own fraternity.”
Priyadarshan wanted to call his new film with Ajay Devgan, Bipasha Basu and Akshay Khanna Ishaq. In fact he had all but finalized the title when to his horror Priyan found out that a film entitled Ishqiya is already out.
“Vishal Bhardwaj beat me to it!” laughs Priyan. “He took the title Ishqiya. And once that was out there was no point in calling my film Ishaq. So we've named it Garam Hawa after M S Sathyu's classic.”
Priyan hopes to live up to the title of Sathyu's film. “I'm not such a bad filmmaker, you know. If I'm the director of De Dana Dan I also made Kancheevaram.”
Shooting for Priyan’s Garam Hawa, Bipasha fit perfectly into her role of sari-clad Gita and the backdrop of Karaikudi, where the shoot was held.
Onlookers who thought they’d see their oft-imagined girl in hot pants or minimal sports wear outdoing men on the streets of this dusty south Indian town, were surprised to see Bipasha in a sari. They held their gaze all the same as the actress took time off to chat with TOI.
Garam Hawa... Is an issue-centric film. It’s very real and many people had doubts about a glam girl fitting into the role of this Bihari girl Gita. But I think it’s a great opportunity for me to do something this different.
Working with Ajay Devgn... I’ve done many films with him and he’s a fun person to work with. Not many people may know that Ajay is a prankster on the sets. Also, he makes acting seem effortless and that rubs off on his co-actors. He’s an actor who can switch on and switch off. I am a lot like that too and so, we get along well.
Fitness video... This is an entrepreneurial venture of mine, but no, films won’t take a backseat. I’ve been at it for the last six years and thought it was about time I did something about it. I’ve been making small videos for my friends and when I found that they helped them, I decided to go ahead in a big way and reach out to housewives who can’t make it to the gym, students who can’t afford to go to one, and generally people with varied schedules. And no, John’s not making a video of his own. And, even if he wants to make one, he’ll have to make it under my banner (laughs).
John’s fairness cream... I’m the one who’s dark skinned! John’s fair. But I have no problems with him endorsing fairness creams. Fact is he’s actually endorsing a product that leaves you acne and blemish-free and that’s not too bad a thing.
SRK’s butt... SRK too has a cute butt, but John’s is cuter.
Love Tamil Nadu... I love the food here, especially Chettinadu cuisine. I’ve never been to this part of the South before and I plan to visit Madurai this time around. I heard there’s a great yoga centre there and I plan to visit this place.
Language problems... Is what keeps me from doing Tamil films. I did one, Sachien, and I found the language very difficult. It’d be a very difficult job for me.
Teams up with close friend Rohit Shetty to re-make superhit Malayali action film. Malayalam movies are currently hot with Bollywood when it comes to remakes and the latest to join this bandwagon is Ajay Devgn. The actor - producer has bought the rights of Mollywood action film 'Puthiya Mukham' for an undisclosed amount, to remake it in Hindi.
Puthiya Mukham' starred Kerala superstar Prithviraj and was one of the biggest hits of last year. The Hindi remake will be produced by Ajay Devgn and directed by Rohit Shetty, marking the return of Ajay as well as Rohit to action films after a spate of successful comedy flicks. Rohit Shetty says, "I have seen Puthiya Mukham three times. Ajay and I have been wanting to do a hardcore action film for the last three years. At last, we are doing it!"
Rohit's last action film was 'Zameen' which was a big hit. The talented director is the son of Mr Shetty, famous stunt master of the 80's and has also worked under Ajay Devgn's father, Veeru Devgan. The film is scheduled to go on floors by year end or early next year, as Ajay already has his hands full with a diverse set of films releasing this year including like Ashwni Dhir's 'Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?', Prakash Jha's 'Rajniti', Kireet Khurana's 'Toonpur Ka Superhero', Priyadarshan's 'Garam Hawa', Bunty Lutharia's 'Once Upon a Time' and Rohit Shetty's Golmaal 3; that begins shooting this April.
Prakash Jhas Rajneeti, starring Ajay Devgn, Katrina Kaif, Ranbir Kapoor and Naseeruddin Shah is ready to release on June 4. The thriller is inspired by the Mahabharata and is set in the milieu of contemporary politics. The film has been in the news for the steamy scenes between Ranbir and American actress Sarah Thompson.
After a string of successes from remakes of Malayalam films in other Indian languages, the demand for remake rights of Mollywood movies are increasing many folds.
One can look forward to yet another southern script on our Hindi shores; and this time it will be presented by Ajay Devgan…!
The actor-producer said to have been quite gung-ho over a Malayalam action flick Puthiya Mukham – one of the biggest hits of last year, starring Malayalam superstar Prithviraj. Ajay loved the storyline of the movie so much that he planned for an immediate remake of it in Hindi and even bought the rights to produce it.
The Hindi version will be directed by Rohit Shetty, who churned out comedies with Ajay earlier. Said Rohit, “I have seen Puthiya Mukham three times. Ajay and I have been wanting to do a hardcore action film for the last three years. At last, we are doing it.”
The director had previously given an action film ‘Zameen’ (2003), which also had Ajay along with Abhishek Bachchan and Bipasha Basu.
As a matter of fact, recently the remake rights of another Malayalam film, ‘Bodyguard’, was sold for high prices for Hindi, Tamil and Telugu.
Shooting on the sets of Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, the crew from the film report to us that they are having an absolute blast. The film is being shot in Nitin Desai’s Karjat studio and the star cast includes the likes of Emraan Hashmi, Kangana Ranaut and Prachi Desai.
“It’s like a picnic here. Every day after shooting either we spent the night partying at Ajay’s farmhouse, which is also in Karjat or in NDS itself," said our source, "And It’s Ajay himself who hosts the party. While shooting he is very serious but when the director Milan Luthria says pack up, suddenly his mood changes and he starts enjoying the company of Emraan, Randeep and Kangana.”
He adds that “It's not only the star cast who enjoys the party. It’s the whole unit from camera man to spot boy who are invited for the party. Ajay is a very humble and kind man he never differentiates between people. He wants everyone to enjoy after the tough shoot.”
Ajay is known for his naughty nature in Bollywood, “Every day starts with masti and pranks. When the director calls to ask him: 'Where are you?' He might say: 'I am not coming today'. The director worries as everyone else is present on the shoot and it may cost the producer a lot if a day's shoot is cancelled." But actually Ajay is lurking in his make up room or somewhere else. And then suddenly he bursts out. It's always fun with him, the source said.
Once Upon A Time is based on two famous underworld dons Haji Mastan (Ajay Devgn) and Dawood (Emraan Hashmi). It trails the life of Mastan, who introduced Dawood to the world of crime. It then shows how he passed on power and retired. He loved the actress Madhubala, but she never reciprocated his feeling and after her death in 1969, Mastan was devastated. He later married starlet Sona (Kangana Ranaut), a Madhubala lookalike who he later launched in films.
Ajay Devgn who has been working continuously for three months is dead tired. “I can kill someone; I’m so exhausted,” says AJ who has finished three films — Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai and Garam Hawa in various locations across the country.
Of course, thanks to his hectic schedule the actor couldn’t see his wife’s latest film My Name is Khan.
“Kajol is very upset with me,” says Ajay. “She has been fighting with me because I haven’t been able to catch a screening of MNIK. However, I was in Karaikudi in Tamil Nadu so I missed it.”
Back in Mumbai, Kajol is going to organise a special show only for her pati. Of course Kajol’s best buddy Karan Johar may also join the couple for a while during the private screening.

For the past 10 years, Ajay Devgn and Kajol have always been together on their wedding anniversary, which falls on February 24. But Ajay almost missed it this year when his co-passengers on a Madurai-Chennai-Mumbai flight had a heated exchange with the airline.
Apparently, Ajay, Priyadarshan, Kumar Mangat and crew members of Garam Hawa had boarded the 1.40pm flight so they will reach Mumbai by 3 pm and Ajay and Kajol could spend some time quality time together. However, a snag in the aircraft's air conditioning system led to a dispute between the airline and the stars' co-passengers. The dispute held up the flight for hours. With every passing minute, Ajay was even more worried that he would not be able to reach home in time. Finally, matters got sorted out and the flight reached Mumbai at 8 pm. Ajay and Kajol managed to have a quiet dinner at home.
Meanwhile, shooting of Garam Hawa has been shifted to Mumbai from Madurai so that it doesn't get disrupted while Ajay gets involved with the promotions of his upcoming film Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn is one doting father who takes time out to look after his six-year-old daughter Nysa.
Even while shooting for his new movie Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?, the 40-year-old actor was busy babysitting Nysa on the sets of the movie as her mother, actress Kajol was away shooting in Australia.
Nysa was present on the sets daily and would spend most of her time engrossed in her video games while her actor father was busy shooting, according to sources.
Whenever Ajay would be free he would also join his only child in her games and would make sure she was comfortable and enjoyed herself on the sets.
It seems Nysa is one lucky girl with daddy dearest mastering the art of multitasking just for her.
Ajay married Kajol in the year 1999 after several years of courtship and they became proud parents of the baby girl in 2003.
