After garnering appreciation for All The Best, Ajay Devgn and Bipasha Basu will yet again share screen space. And this time it is Priyadarshan, who is all set to go on the floors with his next venture Ram Leela.
“Ram Leela is based on epic Ramayana with new dimensions added by director Priyadarshan,” confirms the singer Ajay Jhingran of Billu, Hazaaron Khwaishein Aisi and Page 3 fame.
Jhingran has also sung two songs in the film whose music has been composed by Pritam Chakraborty. Irshad Kamil has penned the lyrics for the film.
Well, Ajay and Bips seem to have taken the lead as Rama and Sita. Wonder, who will step into the shoes of other characters. And what will be Priyadarshan’s approach to this modern Ram Leela.
And what Ajay Devgn wants, he gets, Mangat renames Priyan project and officially calls it that
Producer Kumar Mangat Pathak and Ajay Devgn had a title clash for their next, a Priyan film. On Friday night, after a heated discussion between the two, the film was finally christened Garam Hawa. 'Garam Hawa' was apparently Paresh Rawal's suggestion. Paresh says, "Amongst all the titles, Garam Hawa had the strongest impact."
Title tattle: Ajay Devgn, Paresh Rawal, Kumar Mangat and Akshaye Khanna
Action time Priyadarshan says, "Initially, I was a bit sceptical about calling it Garam Hawa. My film has lots of violence and action, and the title needed to carry a strong punch. None but GH suited it best!" Akshaye Khanna echoes the thought.
Kumar Mangat informs us that there were five titles in contention. "We had selected Ardh Satya, Nishaad, Man Maani, Garam Hawa and Isshaq. The film is an action-thriller with tongue-in-cheek humor. I felt people might connect to MS Sathyu's Garam Hawa and remember that film. I liked Man Maani and Isshaq as the film revolves around a love story upon which honour killing and other plots unfold."
Ajay Devgn argues, "How many of this generation would know about MS Sathyu's Garam Hawa and relate to it? Also the film is not a love story but around the honor killing in a village and the two guys, an army and CBI officer who come to investigate it, so Isshaq would give it a different connotation. It's an action-thriller.
Make an impact 'Man Maani' sounds too frivolous and would give the impression of being another emotional comedy. I thought with the right kind of action and visuals, Akshaye and I with guns would make a tremendous impact with the title of Garam Hawa. In fact, we could even have a song in the film based around it." Akshaye, Paresh and Priyan silently supported Ajay until Mangat reluctantly conceded defeat.
When Ajay Devgn signed Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? He didn't realise that he would become an Atithi (guest) in his own home at Juhu.
Constant traveller Says an exhausted Ajay who has been travelling since last year December, "I have been living out of a suitcase. I have travelled to Karjat (outskirts of Mumbai) Delhi, Madurai, Pollachi, Karaikudi and back."
The actor has been simultaneously shooting for Ekta Kapoor's gangster film, Once Upon A Time in Mumbai, Priyan's Garam Hawa in the South and also has been promoting his next release Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge? He laughs, "In ATKJ, the character I play is of a guy who gets irritated when an unwanted guest lands up at his home. But right now, I am feeling like a guest in my own home. All this hectic travelling is playing havoc with my gym schedule."
For the last few months now, the fitness-conscious actor has been carting his gym along to every shoot. He works out in the make-up shift. As they have been shooting in smaller cities, he doesn't have access to a good gym at every location. His fitness equipment is loaded onto a truck and it travels to wherever he shoots. In Karaikudi, he constructed a gym for the entire period of his stay."
After completing Garam Hawa, Devgn leaves for Delhi. In March, he's off to the US and UK to promote a series of shows for his next film Rajneeti. "Then, I start shooting for Golmaal 3 in April so it's back to Goa again," sighs the busy actor.
Ajay Devgn has been shooting for Milan Luthria's Once Upon A Time In Mumbai and the outdoor sets were very close to his farmhouse in Karjat. The actor bonded so well with the unit that every second day, he'd invite them all over for a party and the crew ended up partying hard while working harder. In fact, once the schedule in Karjat was over, on the last day, Ajay threw a rocking bash at the farmhouse.
Filmmaker Prakash Jha loves Ajay Devgn. He also feels that had it not been for Ajay, his Gangajal and Apaharan wouldn’t have made the impact they did.
Even as Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Manoj Bajpayee and Arjun Rampal say Rajneeti will be the turning point in their careers, Ajay is underplaying his own role in the film. Somehow he seems extra confident that with Prakash at the helm of affairs, he will quietly steal a march over the rest. Incidentally, Prakash must definitely think of Ajay as more than just an actor. According to people who have visited the filmmaker’s office, his personal table has only two photographs. One of his daughter-Disha, and the other of Ajay.
(Sampurn Wire): Think about comedy flicks and the first name that comes to your mind is Ajay Devgn. The talented actor who started his career with the super hit ‘Phool Aur Kaante’ was best known for his action movies for a long time. But, action is certainly not what he seems to be doing these days.
The two-time National Award winner has now become the King of comedy, with his recent hat trick of ‘Golmaal’, ‘Golmaal Returns’ and ‘All The Best’. The smashing success of these movies has resulted in theactor being flooded with offers of comic roles.
What’s more! The actor’s forthcoming release ‘Atithi Tum Kab Jaoge?’ co starring Paresh Rawal and Konkona Sen Sharma is also a laugh riot. The film, produced by Amita Pathak and Warner Bros (India), will make it to theatres across the world on March 5. The promos of the family entertainer have already got the audiences eager to watch the film.
Ashwni Dhir, the director of Atithi….says, “Ajay is a first-rate actor. You can give him just about anything to do; whether it is action, comedy or drama. He is a natural in front of the camera.”
Speaking about his latest comedy Atithi….Ajay says, “Our generation didn’t have the privilege of working with masters like Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Basu Chatterjee and even Gulzar saab, who made some really amazing social films with a comic twist. I agreed to Atithi… almost minutes after I heard the first draft of the script, because to me, this film fit into that genre of Hrishida’s films. Films like ‘Chupke Chupke’, ‘Bawarchi’, ‘Rajnigandha’, ‘Khubsoorat’, ‘Angoor’ and ‘Golmaal’ (Amol Palekar) made by stalwarts like Hrishida, Basuda and Gulzar saab tickled your funny bone, but they also had a soul.”
His eyes crinkle as he says, “Atithi … is from the school of film-making that made a huge impact through the ’70s and ’80s. Yet the film has a contemporary look. Believe me, every time I say I will run away from comedy, comedy chooses me. After Atithi… I’ll plunge headlong into ‘Golmaal-3’. Sometimes, I think actors don’t choose a role, a role chooses them. When you deliberately resist something, it has a way of following you.”
Ajay laughs and adds, “They say man proposes god disposes. For actors, it should be ‘an actor proposes, a filmmaker disposes’. Amitabh Bachchan was an angry young man and then did some delectable comedies. I was the action guy who went into comedy. Though I keep saying I want to get back to action flicks, I will trust my instincts and accept a good comedy if it comes my way.”
The versatile actor has a number of movies lined up for release this year including Prakash Jha’s ‘Rajneeti’, ‘Toonpur Ka Superhero’ along with wife Kajol, Milan Luthria’s ‘Once Upon A time In Mumbai’, Kumar Mangat’s ‘Garam Hawa’ and Rohit Shetty’s ‘Golmaal 3’.
Well, with Ajay wanting to shift back to action movies in the near future we surely hope he is enjoying his current status as the Bollywood’s King of Laughter.
Previously, Akshay Kumar And Ajay Devgan had developed a strong bond while doing films together but as time passed their friendship faded and they drifted far apart.
Now after their children have started going to the same school they often get to see each other and in the process they have developed previous feeling for each other.
According to sources report Akshay and Kajol shares good vibes with each other and in the process Ajay could not help standing out of their sight. Both the devoted parents bonded, a source stated, "Akshay and Kajol met during one of the events at their children's school (Akshay's son Aarav and Kajol's daughter Nysa go to the same school) and both the devoted parents bonded.”
Most of the time reserved Ajay smiled and nodded in response to the conversations between his wife Kajol and his friend Akshay according to a source report.
Well it is nice that Akshay's famous Dostana with Ajay has revived.

That noted director of hard hitting films like DAMUL, GANGAJAL and APHARAN, Prakash Jha, hails from Bihar is common knowledge and also the fact that he is respected politician and a social worker who has worked selflessly for the people of the state.
The wind of change that has overtaken Bihar is being felt even in the film industry as people are venturing out late at night to see movies. Films like WANTED, 3 IDIOTS and VEER have done stupendous business in Bihar and the territory which was once ignored by distributors and producers is now being taken seriously.
The film world is happy and the first signs of positive development is being seen in the capital Patna, courtesy Prakash Jha, who is putting up Bihar's first multiplex mall, the P& M Mall. This mall is coming up in the heart of Patna's Patliputra industrial estate and is expected to be ready by March. Plans are underway to premiere Prakash Jha's Ajay Devgan, Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif starrer, RAAJNEETI.
Well, we need more people like Prakash Jha to serve not only the film industry but also the common man who buys tickets and keeps the industry and everything related to it functioning well.
Kajol will have three releases this year -- My Name Is Khan, the remake of Stepmom and husband Ajay Devgn's home production -- Toonpoor Ka Superhero. The actress -- who usually does one film every two years -- is feeling overworked and has decided to take a long break.
A long hiatus
Now that MNIK has released, Kajol has not decided to sign any new film. There has been talk of another film with Ajay, but there is nothing definite on that. Once Stepmom wraps up, Kajol will concentrate on the dubbing of Toonpoor Ka Superhero and then takes a long hiatus from movies.
A source close to the actress says, "After her comeback with Fanaa, she has only done films for friends and family. Her priority has been her daughter Nysa. Kajol hates travelling and doing outdoors for long because it means being away from her daughter."
Recently, Kajol was over heard telling a close friend, "I need a really long break now!" Buzz has been that Ajay wants to extend his family and that might be one of the reasons for her break. "If Karan wants her to do another film, she will blindly say yes. But that won't happen anytime soon."
Bipasha Basu recounts how director Priyadarshan would constantly ruffle her hair during the shooting of Garam Hawa. “My character is a complete break from my glamourous image and Priyan wanted me to look as simple as possible, which I did. But the only problem was my hair, which being silky always looks very neat even if I try to make it look untidy. So every time we started to shoot he would look at my hair, then quickly come over and ruffle it with his fingers trying to give an unkempt look. Everyone would have a good laugh,” smiles the actress. Basu plays Ajay Devgn’s love interest in the film which is about honour killing in Bihar. The film is being presently filmed in Tamil Nadu.

Vivek Agnihotri's ambitious plans for the Hindi remake of 12 ANGRY MEN are currently on hold. He has already announced FREEDOM, another epic tale which takes audiences through the socio-political state of India from the 70s to the current times, with Sanjay Dutt and Madhavan. However work on 12 ANGRY MEN, which has been in news since Vivek's last release DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL, would begin only at a later stage once FREEDOM is ready.
"Frankly speaking, there have been budget constraints over a period of time and one has to be cognizant of the economics before stepping into a project. In any case how many announcements did we actually hear in the entire 2009? Now the market has started opening up a little and it makes sense to make FREEDOM first. Yes, the adaptation of 12 ANGRY MEN is close to my heart too and that will happen in due course of time", says Vivek who made his debut as a film maker with CHOCOLATE.
12 ANGRY MEN is a Hollywood classic and its original story revolved around 12 jurors who had to decide whether an 18 year old boy was 'guilty' or 'not guilty' of murdering his father. For the Hindi remake of the film, there were also talks that actors like Amitabh Bachchan, Ajay Devgan, Victor Bannerjee and Om Puri were being approached for the film.
Continuing on FREEDOM, Vivek adds, "FREEDOM is meaningful cinema with a commercial appeal to it. It’s a political thriller that gives a blow by blow account of modern day India during last three decades. This is a story that I have been waiting to tell for years now. Though CHOCOLATE and DHAN DHANA DHAN GOAL happened in the interim, I was always keen to bring FREEDOM for Indian viewers. The beauty of the subject is that it stays on to be as topical as ever. Even if I had to make FREEDOM in 2020, it will still retain its charm because there would always be newer episodes to tell from the decade gone by."
After a string of successes from remakes of Mollywood films in other Indian languages, the demand for remake rights of Malayalam movies are increasing many folds.
Recently the remake rights of Siddique's 'Bodyguard', was sold for high prices for Tamil, Hindi and Telugu. Another Malayalam movie that has generated huge interest from other language producers is the Prithviraj starer ‘Puthiya Mukham’, which was one of the biggest hits of last year.
Bollywood super star Ajay Devgan who loved the storyline of the movie produced by Bathestha productions, has planned for an immediate remake of the movie in Hindi. The exact amount paid for the remake rights is kept a secret, but the sources close to the producers Anil Mathew and Murugan states that the movie has fetched a very good price.
Presently Bathestha team is busy shooting ‘Nallavan’ with Jayasuriya and debutante director Aji John at Ottappalam. The new movie which also features Saikumar, Siddhique and Mydhili is expected to be a path breaker like their previous endeavour ‘Puthiya Mukham’.
Mithun Chakraborty is set for a return to comedy after two decades. He will be replacing Paresh Rawal in ‘Golmaal 3’, directed by Rohit Shetty.
Mithun was last seen doing a comic role in ‘Agneepath’ (1990) as Krishnan Iyer MA. Rohit thought of him after Paresh backed out of the film while it was still in its scripting stage, citing date issues. He thinks that though Mithun does a fabulous job with comedy, it’s a surprise how no one else has used him for comedy again.
He narrated the script to Mithun who liked it and signed on the film. Rohit believes that it getting veteran actors to join a film is more of a cakewalk than getting newcomers. –Sampurn
