I love dancing. Its fluid, its graceful, its art in motion. And the best of it all is salsa. I think I have always wanted to learn the salsa. But it had taken a back seat with my career first and then Nysa taking precedence. So after Fanaa, I had some time to myself.. So alongwith a friend, I joined Sandeep Soparkar’s classes. It was so much fun. I felt like a child as I let the music flow through me and guide my motions.
A month after learning, ajay who I fondly call J told me that we will be shooting a salsa dance in U, Me aur Hum. My squeal of joy was reverberating in his ears for a long long time.
I rehearsed the dance steps with Ashley the choreographer. Not just in the rehearsal hall, but also on the ship. But I could not practice with J as our schedules were not permitting us. So we actually danced for the first time when we were giving the shot.
Now J is not known to be a grrreeat dancer. So when I started, I knew not to expect any miracles. But that man actually surprised me. He was superb. His steps were flawless and his posture “picture perfect”. I looked at him and exclaimed, “You have been practicing on the quiet.”
That’s J for you. I love that song and we are looking superb....
If reports from Pakistan and the makers of The Killer are to be believed, the film has seen a far better response than Bhatts own Awarapan and Gangster. This is not all as the film is also challenging Welcome, which is running at packed houses there. (...) Satish Anand, CEO of Eveready Pictures - Pakistan has been quoted as saying, "In the last one year, we have had a few releases from India and in the next one year we expect permission for the release at least 12 more films and that too simultaneously with India. Viewers here are already watching Indian films on cable all the time, but the excitement of going to the cinema and being able to watch the latest releases on big screen is definitely something completely different." (....) It was the release of Akbar Khan's Taj Mahal - An Eternal Love Story in 2006 and Emraan Hashmi's Awarapan in 2007 that had kick started the exhibition of Indian films in Pakistan. With Government of Pakistan allowing nation wide exhibition of Indian films, the door is wide open for many more Bollywood flicks to hit the Pakistani screens. Coming days would see Ajay Devgan's Sunday and Aamir Khan's Taare Zameen Par to see a release in Pakistan. Meanwhile there are also talks around Jodhaa Akbar to make its way into theaters there.
Ajay Devgan gets himself a Maruti Swift March 06, 2008 13:39 IST
Bollywood seems to have gone green.
After news that Akshay Kumar is driving a Reva -- a car that runs on electricity -- comes another bit of news that Ajay Devgan has gotten himself a Maruti Swift. Apparently, small cars like the Swift consume lesser petrol, prompting the environmentally conscious actor to change gears. Besides, in the heavy Mumbai traffic, all cars -- whether big or small -- run at a snail's pace. So a big car may suit a star but will do nothing to make him reach his destination faster. Interestingly, Ajay's father Veeru Devgan -- a veteran fight master in the Hindi film industry -- prefers a motorcycle to a car in order to avoid the Mumbai traffic.

(...) "I feel bad thinking about "Mister Fraud". Its a good movie but its still not getting released. Its not slapstick but rather a situational comedy. This is the first comedy which I enjoyed working on. I guess Ajay Devgan and Sanjay Dutt will help completing the film." (...)
Ajay Devgan and Kajol: Talent powerhouse sans style!
March 7, 2008 (Sawf News) - Kajol and Ajay Devgan attended a press event to promote their forthcoming film U Me Aur Hum and launch of Zee TV's news family show - Zee Rock n Roll - on Thursday evening, March 6 at JW Marriott in Mumbai.
Both Kajol and Ajay were dressed casually. They make a fine couple and we love them but their sense of styling is pedestrian, especially that of Devgan. Coming to think of it we would love to hear what Devgan thinks about fashion and style. We suspect his answer will have us in splits. Oh…well you can't have it all. They may not be style icons but they sure are a talent powerhouse and hopefully the designer associated with U Me Aur Hum has covered up for their styling inadequacies.
At the event Kajol wore a white empire waist, short kimono sleeve tunic and chocolate pants with platform heels. She left her asymmetrically cut hair open with a center parting. A four row pearl choker complemented her glowing complexion and she frequently lit up the ensemble with her high wattage smile.
Ajay wore a stylish white collar shirt and blue jeans, with a red leather cowboy style belt and tan leather shoes. He left the top buttons of his shirt open to show a lot of skin, a popular style amongst Bollywood hunks these days, though we cannot get over the 'Mumbai streets' origin of the style.
Zee Rock n Roll show is a family dance competition in which three generation of family will be able to participate. The show will stress family bonding across the generations and that may explain why Kajol's mother Tanuja tagged along with her and Devgan! U Me Aur Hum will release in theaters on April 11.
After delighting viewers with the popular music competition, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV, the makers of the show have come up with a new competition -- dance, which will have Bollywood stars Ajay Devgan, his wife Kajol and mother-in-law Tanuja as judges.
This is the first time that the trio is appearing in a reality show on television. Sharad Kelkar of Saat Phere will host the show, which goes on air from March 14 at 10 pm.
Titled Rock n Roll, the new show which will replace Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is a family dance competition in which three generations of a family can participate as a team.
Says Ajay, "If you look at most reality shows on television, it's the third generation that is most neglected. I'm glad that finally here's a show that will cater to everyone. That's what brings me here."
Echoing her husband's sentiments, Kajol says, "I feel very good being the jury member. Nowadays when we switch on the TV, we see only Saas bahus fighting on most shows. There is so much negativity, whereas this is one show which is positive. You will not see any fights."
As what would be the yardstick to judge the show, Ajay says, "It all depends on co-ordination, performance and entertainment."
Kajol quickly adds, "10 marks definitely for enthusiasm."
Asked if the judges have danced as a family, Ajay says, "Our daughter (Nysa) makes all of us dance almost everyday, sometimes when we don't want to!"
'I did not take Kajol for the film just because she is my wife' – Ajay Devgan March, 6
Ajay Devgan is happy with the way his maiden venture as a director- U, Me & Hum has shaped. We met him on the sets of Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Returns, where Ajay talked enthusiastically about his maiden venture as a director.
"U, Me & Hum is a complete family social. There is a lot of humor, drama etc in my film. I would rather call my film a romantic film which has a lot of drama and humor".
Ajay denies that his film is a take off from Notebook. "My film is completely different. Every script is different from one another. Every one tries to make some thing different. My film has its own standing in its own genre", he quips and insists that he did not zero in on his wife Kajol for his film just because she happens to be his wife. "I thought that Kajol was the best actress suited for the role. She fitted the bill perfectly to the T", he states.
Ajay insists that it was a conscious decision on his part to go in for talented actors instead of stars for his film. "I was clear of what I wanted, the day my script was ready. I wanted to cast Kajol, Karan, Sumeet Raghavan etc in my film. Isn't every director supposed to take a conscious decision to cast good actors so that he can mould them according to the way the script demands", exclaims Ajay.
Ajay confesses that he did experience a high as a director. "As a director, I find very hard pressed for time. Lot of work still needs to be done and the post production work is draining me off. All said and done, I do not think my life or for that matter my life style has changed in any way ever since I turned a director. I am the same family man even now, and long to spend more time with my daughter Nysa and wife Kajol", chirps Ajay.
Ajay concedes that it was not at all tough for him to act as well as direct himself in his maiden venture U, Me & Hum. "I had the entire vision of my film very clear in my mind right from Day One when I set out to launch my film and hence I found that it was quite easy for me to act as well as direct at the same time".
The major lesson that he says he had learnt after producing Raju Chacha was not to go mad and overspend. "The film did wel,l but it did not enable me to recover my cost of production. As far as U, Me & Hum is concerned, I saw to it that I did not go over board as a producer. Yet, at the same time I did not cut down on the costs either. I managed to strike a neat balance as a producer as far as U, Me & Hum is concerned".
Ajay does not want to divulge details about his role in Shree Asthtavinayak's film Golmaal Returns; because he thinks it is too early now. "All that I would say is that I play Kareena Kapoor's husband in the film. The film has a lot of situational humor embedded to it. Rohit Shetty who had directed Golmaal is directing this one too, though it is not a sequel. Golmaal Returns is part of the Golmaal series and does not necessarily have the same characters of Golmaal, except for one or two".
Ajay has no regrets that Sunday with Rohit Shetty as the director had flopped, though he had put in his best foot forward as an actor, because according to him there is no way you can guarantee success or failure of a film before it is released. "We never frankly thought that his Golmaal would turn out to be so funny and be a big hit at the box office. While Sunday had a restrained comedy, Golmaal Returns is an out and out over the top comedy. We had a ball working on the sets".
Ajay admits that he is very choosy as far as his films are concerned. "As an actor, I go by the script first and the director and the producer afterwards. Besides a good script and a good director, you need a sound producer to see through the completion of your film. I like good work because I enjoy doing good work. Though it may sound very clichéd, I feel that as an actor, it is good to do different roles because it keeps you going as an actor instead of letting you stagnate in your path".
Ajay says that he is quite amused by the rumors that Rajji and he have fallen out after the dismal fate of Halla Bol at the box office. "I do not judge a filmmaker by the performance of his last film at the box office. I am committed to Rajji for his Ashoka as well as Ramayan"
Besides Golmaal Returns, Ajay has a couple of releases like One Two Three, U, Me & Hum and Kirit Khurana's Toonpur Ka Super Hero with him and Kajol as live characters along with animated cartoon characters.
Ajay Devgan and his beau, Kajol performed a mind-blowing Salsa for the number, 'Jee Le' in their forthcoming film, U, Me Aur Hum.
But what remains under wraps till now, is that Kajol was indisposed during the shoot, but still managed to go thro' the intricacy of the dance steps and managed it to the 'T'.
Says a unit member, "We shot the song 'Jee le' on the cruise liner. Ashley Lobo has done the choreography. Once while performing the number in the evening, Kajol had to leap down from the upper deck and during the leap, she badly sprained her ankle, thanks to her five-inch heels! But despite that, she took some painkillers and shot the very next day for the same shot with full bravado!"
The source also adds, "Kajol is such is a professional and listened to the director before dancing for this number. Plus Ajay too was very calm and composed and encouraged Kajol to give her best"
Ajay says, "I wanted a salsa for the song because that was the requirement of the script. It was an expensive shoot - more than 100 dancers and we had a crowd of about 600 people on the cruise. First we decided what the requirement of the script was and then Vishal made the salsa number. It was highly brave and professional of her to finish he shoot despite her bad leg injury."
Great going Kajol, hope to see an awesome on screen chemistry between U and Ajay in this song!!
In a hectic state of affairs, last evening the scintillating Kajol and hubby Ajay Devgan were seen running around from one place to another to promote their much awaited film- U ME AUR HUM.
At the launch of the latest edition of Hello magazine, Ajay Devgan was missing from the scene and it was wife Kajol who had to tackle the volleying questions from the media. As expected the media kept on taking Kajol’s views on Sahrukh’s latest item number for Rakesh Roshan’s Krazzy4.
“Definitely Shahrukh is good at whatever he does and it’s his presence that makes him look good with any actress he is paired with. I agree that people call me and Shahrukh an ideal couple but Ajay and I are a normal and realistic couple”, argues Kajol on being paired with Shahrukh.
“Today cinema offers great variety and thus I’m sure that people can watch both Krazzy4 a comedy and our film which is a romantic flick.” She further states that her involvement in the production of U ME AUR HUM wasn’t much but since Ajay played director, she was involved to a certain extent.
Looks like U ME AUR HUM has a lot to look out for.
It was a huge set in Filmistan. Malls, restaurants and fancy salons were made to order to give a very Goan feel to the ambience. Expensive cars and hi-tech mean machines were parked alongside the bricked pavement. Credit of the magnanimity of it all ought to be given to art director Naren Raodekar.
And then appeared the cowgirls – Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Arora – and the cowboys – Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade. While Bebo wore a mini-skirt, white shirt, hat and boots, Amu was more covered.
The song that was being shot was titled Tha Karke , and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. The music of this film has been composed by Pritam. Director Rohit Shetty informed us, "We are shooting here till March 5. Then we go to South Africa in April to shoot one more song. The film will see a July-August release.
Actor Ajay Devgan was most tense because he had to dance and dancing is just not his cup of tea. But the rest of the cast seemed to be enjoying themselves on the foot tapping number. "This is a dream sequence, it's an imaginary, fantasy song" Amrita informs us.
Bebo on the other hand was looking hot in her micro-mini skirt. Ask her if she is still on her strict diet and she says, "No, I've been eating everything. But I do workout still."
The happiest of the lot however, was Shreyas Talpade who seems to have got along with the 'gang' pretty well. "It's a fun atmosphere. I'm lucky to have bagged this entertainer."
It was one hot day at Filmcity, and we returned to write this piece tha karke.
Ramesh Sippy recently received a bravery award for sitting through Ram Gopal Verma’s remake of his beloved Sholay, however, it looks as though Ramesh Sippy is in for yet another jolt. If sources have to be believed, Ram Gopal Varma (RGV) is all set to make a second installment to his box office bomber -- Ram Gopal Verma Ki Aag.
RGV’s previous attempt of remaking Sholay bombed at the box office, even though it had some of the Bollywood biggies starring in it. But that does not seem to have stopped the filmmaker from attempting to remake Sholay for the second time. Although he was unavailable for comments a source close to the Director said, "We keep discussing ideas, but this does not mean that everything is implemented."
Remaking a movie when one runs out of ideas is not a crime, but remaking one’s own remakes can be termed as a brain drain syndrome. RGV may not be too concerned about the fate of his film making career, but the movie goers probably feel otherwise about sitting through another bad remake of one of their all time favourite movies.
... Q.: You are playing the character of a hair stylist in Rohit Shetty's Golmaal Returns. Please tell us about that. A.: Yeah, that's true. I am playing a hair stylist in Golmaal Returns. And for that reason I am trying with a different hair style. This character has a very uncanny habit of seeing a person's hair when talking to him. I have been observing the hair stylist Aalim, he exactly does the same thing. He changes his hair style every two days. I am still dumb in the film, but the story of the film is quite different from Golmaal. ... Q.: Please tell us about your forthcoming films. A.: This film, we are talking about, will be released in March. In June you will see C Kompany produced by our house. Golmaal Returns will be in theatres by August this year and I hope another film Run Bhola Run will be released by the end of the year.

Ajay Devgan, Kajol and Tanuja get talking about why it’s truly a woman’s world - and always has been to Shubha Shetty-Saha
Well if Ranbir Kapoor can boast of a family that has more or less dominated Bollywood for four generations now, there’s only one other family of actors that can match them step for step. What started out with the advent of Rattan Bai into Hindi films was a legacy carried forward by her daughter Shobhana Samarth, her daughters Nutan and Tanuja and now holding the flame is Kajol.
And they’ve been more than just women actors - they’ve all been stong women with distinct identities of their own, women who’ve laid down their own terms to live their life and gone ahead and done just that. While Kajol’s grandma Shobhana Samarth defied all conventional rules, mum Tanuja followed suit. It comes as no suprise then that the spirited Kajol carved her own path, even at the risk of being called rebellious.
Luckily she found a husband like Ajay Devgan, who’s has enough strength and resilience of his own to match up to all that woman power in his life. “They are all strong individuals - including my own mother - and I truly respect all of them. My life would be absolutely incomplete if even one of them were not present in it,” says Ajay.
But Kajol isn’t at all carried away the praise and readily credits the Devgans with their due. “Yes, I do come from a family of strong women, but I think even Ajay’s family has women - my mother-in-law and sisters-in-law - who are strong in their own right,” says Kajol. “I think every woman is strong, some show it in a passive way and others aggressively. I am sure in the presence of all these women, my daughter Nysa is going to grow up into a beautiful and strong individual as well.”
Ajay’s mom-in-law Tanuja, who had everyone in the industry in her hey days buzzing about her avante garde sensibilities, has some very mature advice to offer. “Strength is a very relative term. Women are emotionally strong and you never know how any woman will react to a given situation.” Ask Kajol if there have been times when she felt her mother was right and she was wrong and she laughs, “All the time! Since the time I conceived to date. I wish I had my mum’s patience - I sometimes run out of it when I am dealing with Nysa.”
And now, Ajay gets a chance to work with both his wife and mother-in-law - they’ll be the judges for a new dance-based reality show ‘Rock and Roll Family’ on Zee TV. Ask him which woman in his family he is most impressed by and Ajay grins. “I don’t want to rub any of them the wrong way!” To which Kajol adds knowingly: “He’s a smart man. After all, he has to come home!”
