Kajol has several bees on her bonnet right now. Besides the fact that she is a workingwoman, wife and mother, she also dreams of opening an orphanage for deprived children. This actor has given us some of the best hits of Bollywood such as DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAAYENGE and KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI. Her negative role in GUPT is unforgettable. Post-marriage, she came back with a vengeance in FANAA, opposite Superstar Aamir Khan. Poised for the national premiere of the Devgun's home production U, ME AUR HUM in which she is pitted against husband Ajay who also directed the film, Kajols holds forth on motherhood, her work in cinema and social activism. Our correspondent unplugs her in an intimate interview
What makes Kajol tick? Why, motherhood of course. I was born to be a mother because I consider motherhood my exclusive niche in life. Nysa is my top priority. I can give up everything and anything for her. Why, the other day, I cancelled a long overdue appointment with a journalist because I had to take Nysa to her friend's birthday party. The sheer joy she felt at the party made my day. I could not have gone with her had I stuck to my interview. Why Nysa alone? I am at the beck and call of my family at all times. It may be husband Ajay or my mother or sister. I think the family is and should be the first priority in any woman's life. They should have that dependence on you that you are there for them no matter who you are, where you are and how you are. I have the same sense of dependence on my mother till today.
Having worked with the best directors in Bollywood, what is your take on Ajay as a director? He once confessed to me that he dreamt of becoming a director when he was just eight years old. Thus, when he finally decided to direct, he prepared himself thoroughly for this new role. He got himself a bound script and edited the film in his head much before shooting was to begin. He was totally focused on what he had in mind, what he wanted in his cool and calm manner. He does lose his cool but does not let it show. He can control his anger well. His total honesty as an actor in front of the camera spills over when he is behind it. In fact, I would sometimes find his efficiency quite irritating. Everything on the sets would go perfectly according to his plan. And when I say this, I place him against some of the best directors I have worked with such as Aditya Chopra and Karan Johar. In my opinion, Ajay is the best director I have worked with and I am not saying this because he is my husband. He is totally involved in his work.
What is the secret of the Ajay-Kajol happy marriage? There is no secret at all. It has worked because both of us wanted it to work and we have tremendous love plus respect for one another. You need to work on a relationship and that is what we do in our own little ways every single day. The feeling of caring must be there in both the partners and this does not begin or end with those three words 'I love you.' It is true that I am possessive about him in the same way that I am possessive about Nysa. But we also realise that we need to give some space to each other to grow individually, as a married couple and as Nysa's parents. It is not that we do not have fights or arguments. But these are the things that add spice to a marriage, don't they?
How was the overall experience with your husband directing you on the sets? Nothing special. He was my husband at home and was the ruthlessly dominating boss on the sets and he told me to accept this change in the equation much before shooting began. After all, I have been an actress for too long to forget my professionalism on the sets and in front of the camera. Not that it did not disturb me at times, but I learnt to cope with it when I understood that he needed to cope with the changed equation as much as I did. He was so well organized that he left no scope at all for discussion, debate or argument.
You want to open an orphanage we hear? You have heard it right. I definitely want to open an orphanage in the near future. I do not have the time for it right now but the will is there. I want to have some more kids of my own because Nysa needs company closer to her age. Ajay and I have jointly decided to keep her away from the public glare and from the film industry because she is too small and should grow up like any normal child would. It is difficult but we are trying our best. We wish her to grow up with a sense of humour that vests her with the ability to laugh on herself.

'Are you nervous or excited?' This question has been frequently asked to the actor-turned -director Ajay Devgan in most of his interviews, who is making his directorial debut with U, Me Aur Hum. The film was screened especially for L.K. Advani (Sr. leader of BJP) at Films division in Delhi yesterday (April 6).
The Member of Parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad arranged a special screening of the film U Me Aur Hum for L.K Advani who incidentally has been a film critic before. After seeing the film, L.K. Advani was in awe of it and gave a standing ovation when the credits were rolled. He was touched by the movie. He saw the film with his wife. Among others who saw the special screening were Sushma Swaraj - another BJP pillar- and cast of the film which included Kajol, Karan Khanna, Sumeet Raghvan , Divya Dutta and needless to say Ajay Devgan.
Sushma Swaraj added that the film was indeed good but Kajol's performance was impeccable.

A source close to Ajay says, “Advaniji used to be a film critic and had expressed a keen interest to watch U, Me Aur Hum. Ajay was thrilled to know that Advaniji wanted to watch the film.
Ravi Shankar coordinated the whole thing and even had a Government of India card printed and everyone was formally invited.”
Party hearty
Talking about the people present during the screening the source says, “Mr and Mrs LK Advani, Ravi Shankar Prasad (brother of Anurradha Prasad of BAG Films), Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh, Kajol, Ajay, UMAH’s cast Karan Khanna, Sumeet Raghavan, Divya Dutta and Sunil and Krishika Lulla of Eros International were present along with 160 party people at Films Division where the screening was held.”
The source close to Ajay says, “Advaniji liked the film and conveyed his appreciation to Ajay Devgan. He said that U, Me Aur Hum is a very good film and he found it heartwarming.
The film got over at 11 pm, and got a standing ovation from the crowd. Sushma (Swaraj) lauded Kajol’s performance saying she was excellent in the film.”

You can take this man out of Bollywood, but definitely not Bollywood out of this man. We are talking about the 'Bollywood's very own Encyclopedia of Acting' Mr. Ajay Devgan. Having made his debut with the mega hit Phool Aur Kaante, this man has time and again proved that he can easily carry off any (read 'all') kind of roles and responsibilities that's given to him.
There are people who will do just about anything to be in the limelight and then, there are people for whom the limelight will do everything to be on them. While we do not wish to name who fall in the first category (because it's very obvious), but one thing's for sure that Ajay Devgan falls in the latter category.
Here's your chance to have a heart to heart chat with the man for whom his family and work precedes everything and who is all set to say You, Me Aur Hum to his on-screen (and off-screen too) girl Kajol. So, long on to celebrity chat on Bollywood Hungama on Wednesday, April 9, at 1530 hrs IST.

Love or calamity can strike any place, any time in the most unexpected manner. Movie scripts thrive on such drama and unpredictability.
And so, even a luxury cruise becomes the centre of high-scale action or momentous romance, depending on the nature of the genre.

U, Me Aur Hum
A cruise ship is among one of the many USP's of Ajay Devgan's directorial debut, U, Me Aur Hum, due for release on April 11.
Besides providing a super-enchanting setting, it also plays cupid in bringing the lead protagonists of this enterprise -- Devgan and wife Kajol -- together.
A series of playful encounters, meaningful conversations and salsa sessions later, the duo find themselves irresistibly drawn towards each other.
The relationship drama is rumoured to be inspired by Nick Cassavetes' The Notebook.

For those who thought that U ME AUR HUM had exhausted all its musical ammunition which each of the songs being aired on the music channels, there is a pleasant surprise in store. This comes in the form of the video of Vishal Bhardwaj's most popular tune for the track 'Dil Dhakda Hai'.
Readers may wonder that the song has already been beamed a few weeks ago so what's special about this? Well, earlier there were primarily montages from the film, which accompanied this Munna Dhiman song while the actual song visuals were kept under the wrap. However, from this week on, viewers get a chance to see the real song, which makes 'Dil Dhakda Hai' a good enough reason to give the film a dekko.
Not just is the song accompanied by some eye catchy picturisation, it also has the entire cast coming together on a single frame. So while Ajay Devgan takes a merry trip (pun intended) on the cruise, Kajol plays the teasing game while Sumeet Raghavan, Karan Khanna, Isha Sharvani and Divya Dutta join in the party!
A masterstroke indeed by the Devgans even as the film is just 3 days away from release!

Just a few months back, Aamir's directorial debut TAARE ZAMEEN PAR was well regarded and acclaimed with tears rolling down senior BJP leader L K Advani. Essentially actor-director Aamir Khan had arranged a special screening of his movie at Prasar Bharati's Film Division auditorium accompanied by a few other politicians. Aamir had arranged this special screening after he came to know Advani was keen to watch the movie.
Now this time Advani had desired to watch Ajay's directorial debut U, ME AUR HUM. Member of Parliament Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad arranged a special screening in New Delhi for the Honourable leader of Opposition. Present at the screening were director and actor Ajay Devgan, Mr and Mrs Advani, Kajol, Ravi Shankar Prasad and Sushma Swaraj as well along with the rest of the starcast Karan Khanna, Sumeet Raghvan and Divya Dutta.
Well, L K Advani liked the film and has conveyed his appreciation to Ajay Devgan. He found the movie heart wrenching and gave a standing ovation to Ajay's efforts. After Aamir it seems now Ajay is all set and ready to carry the trend (baton of director) ahead.
While Advani has given thumps up for the movie, we wish Ajay all the luck for his hardwork (U ME AUR HUM) which will hit the theaters this Friday.

The petty hurdles of marriage give them an insight to what marriage is - a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner. And Ajay and Pia are used to dancing together. So, they battle all odds, and dance, and sometimes they fall. But every time they fall, they fall in love. And that's what a successful marriage requires.

That long name need not pose problems of memory because Aditya Singh Rajput is better known by his nickname Addy in Bollywood and among Mumbai's modelling fraternity.
This boy with the funky and weirdo hairdo who made his present strongly felt as Urmila Matondkar's forever confused brother in Jahnu Barua's Maine Gandhi Ko Nahin Mara, is now doing an important role in Ajay Devgan's directorial debut film U, Me Aur Hum.
At 22, Addy has no regrets about having stepped into modelling four-and-a-half years ago when he was a little over 17. The money from the endorsements gives him the chance to pick and choose. TWF correspondent Shoma A. Chatterji talks to this promising actor. ... What role are you playing in U Me Aur Hum? It is a small but a very special cameo with the MP3 model Hazel cast opposite me in the film. I am not supposed to talk about the story or my character till the film is released. Let us just say that if you miss the beginning and the end of the film you will have missed me completely. Suffice to say that the film is in flashback and I am part of the present but now please do not go on to add two and two to make five! U Me Aur Hum is a film with many layers and the title is metaphorical. I consider it a great honour to have been able to work with my favourite actors Ajay-Sir and Kajol Ma'am at the beginning of my career. Dharmendra Sharma, the editor of the film, recommended my name to co-producer Kumar Mangat for another film. I was not chosen for that film but I was thrilled when I got a call for this role in U, Me Aur Hum within two days and I did not even have to audition for the role.
What can you say about Ajay Devgun the director? He is a chilled out guy but completely down to earth. I have never felt like a newcomer from the day I met him through Sharma. We had a blast during the shoot and the team was, to repeat a cliché, like family. I am a natural and a versatile actor. He was totally engrossed in the film when he was directing and nothing but nothing would take him away from his work.
Let's hear about this famous prank you played on your co-actor Hazel during the shoot of U, Me Aur Hum? In the film, I am playing a mischievous young boy trying to woo Hazel who is an Anglo-Indian. I made her believe that later on in the film, she had to switch over to a traditional Indian mode of dressing with sari, bindi and the rest of the stuff. I also told her that she would have to speak in shuddh Hindi and behave like an Indian girl. She believed me and began rehearsing with her friends back home to get the perfect stuff. I also told Ajay Sir about it, fearing that he would scold me. But he did not. I also sent ahead and began to teach her shuddh Hindi and cultural stuff. When she learnt it was all rubbish, she was angry but we all had a hearty laugh over it. Actually, it was in keeping with the character I play I in the film, that of a mischievous prankster. ...
Mumbai (PTI): BJP leader L K Advani was moved by the film 'U Me aur Hum' when he watched it at a special screening three days ago, bollywood actor Ajay Devgan who marks his debut as a director with the film, said on Tuesday.
"There was a seven-minute standing ovation after the screening (in Delhi). Initially, I was wary of his opinion because I believe I have made an entertaining commercial film and was not sure what a person of his seniority in age would feel about it," Devgan told PTI here.
In fact, after the screening, Devgan said Advani told him that during the course of the first half of the film, he too wondered why he was being shown the movie.
"The first half was lighter, entertaining and the momentum picks up in the second half. As the story progressed, he said he was touched by the subject and the message I wanted to convey," the actor said.
Devgan said his idea of filmmaking was blending sensibility into commerical cinema.
"It is easy to make a niche film or a stupid commercial movie," he added.
BJP spokesman Ravishankar Prasad, who is a close family friend, wanted to see the film and he invited the BJP leader for the screening, Devgan said.
Devgan said he was not very nervous about the release of his first directorial venture, but happy that his labour of love is finally releasing.
"What makes me happier is that the film's advance bookings are very good in Delhi and Punjab."
Asked about his expectations from the film, Devgan said, "likes and dislikes are up to individual tastes. But, I can confidently say that audience will not call it a bad film."
Replying to questions, Devgan said directing and acting at the same time is not a difficult task if one is clear about what he wants to visualise on the screen.
"Only more hard work and concentration is required."
On the use of 'helicam' in the film, he said it is for the first time that this technique was used in an Indian film.
"Helicam was used because it was important to the story. I believe film making is all about story telling. Technique only enhances story telling," the actor said.
Devgan said wife Kajol was always a good actress and now she understands cinema better. "Kajol's character in `U Me aur Hum' is the most difficult she has essayed so far. Apart from playing the lead in the film, she has also handled production and finances," the proud husband said.
Devgan said he became an actor because his father (noted action director Veeru Devgan) wished so. "Otherwise, I always had a passion to be behind the camera. Filmaking came easily to me. I used to edit films with my father and made video films before assisting Shekhar Kapur."
Devgan described 'U Me aur Hum' as an intense romantic story. "What makes a relationship click is when the two partners think as 'we' and 'us'. It is not about making your partner change according to your likes and dislikes but accept him or her just the way he or she is," he explained.
Asked whether the reel love story depicted resembles real life love story with Kajol, the actor said, "the script has nothing to do with our real lives."
"We never proposed to each other. We met, became friends and over time realised that we wanted to spend the rest of our lives with each other."
Were there any typical tantrums when you and Ajay worked together in U Me aur Hum? There were no typical tantrums because we have done movies together as well, before, I mean we are both professionals, even we have tantrums but we are too professional to show in films.
What were your contributions to the script of U Me aur Hum? I don't think that you can say that I have helped him with the script, because I don't think I have made anything much, but Ajay kept telling us, we were all used as sounding boards, so if sounding boards are hit in the script, then maybe yes…….
What is your secret to a successful marriage? My love for him is much stronger than it was at first, and hopefully it shall continue, as far as keeping the sparks going, you have to work on it each and every day and every day you think of something new and you don't make compromise or work on it in different ways, everyday bring something new what you can do.
What was your reaction when you heard that you had bagged the lead role in U Me aur Hum? What would have been your reaction if you weren't the leading lady in the film? I was very happy to be the lead actress in the film, as far not being the lead actress is concerned, I am not really concerned, it was a good role, I don't have any issues if our production would have some other heroine doing the role.
Is the story of U Me aur Hum autobiographical? The entire story is fictional and no part of it is based on our real life at all.
...
What attracted you to U, Me Aur Hum? Initially it was my director but afterwards it was the script, I was completely bold over, I loved the script, I think, I know if I have been offered the script anywhere else, I definitely would have done it hands down.
Can you tell us about the character you play and the story? Yes, it is a love story. Its about 2 people and its about making things work out for you and its about the problem never being bigger than the man as they said in the film and I am sure it is going to be a good film
Who will the film appeal to? The film will appeal to anybody who has ever felt love, doesn't have any particular age bracket in mind or even for that matter, any particular kind of audience, it will just appeal to anybody who can feel love can watch the film
What was Ajay like as a director? He was a superb director, he was a one of the unique directors who actually knows what he wants, but most importantly he knew not only what he wanted from me, whether it was a technician, whether it was an actor or even the light man, everybody. Ajay knew exactly what he wanted from everybody and that made life easier and pleasant for everybody
Do you have a favourite song in the film? Well, am not suppose to like just one song since I am also the producer of the film but, my favourite song from the film is "U Me Aur Hum"the unplugged version which is sung by Vishal Bhardwaj.
How does Ajay compare to other leading men you have worked with? Well I married him didn't I well that should something about my opinion of him, but I think most of the people, I have worked with, touch wood have been really really good to me, I have got along with all the heroes I have worked with, so I have got along with them very well and they all have been very professional, very sweet very sweet to me, I must say that.
As an actor he seems intense, is he? Yes he is, its not acting
How much time did you daughter spend on the set and was she aware of what was going on? She was aware of it as much as a four year old can be aware of it, but I don't she spent a lot of time on the set as we tried to keep her away from the set as much as we could.
...
Can yourself following in Ajay¹s footsteps and directing? Never, I would never direct a film, sorry, I hate to say the word but never, but I really really don't think so.
You have an amazing record at the box office, does that ever put pressure on you? Never, I don't take that kind of pressure on my head, I never have or I will ever.
...
What is your idea of happiness? My idea of happiness is …….My motto for my life seems to be that no news is good news, I really like it when my life is peaceful and content and like nothing happening.
Ajay Devgan and Kajol have started shooting for animation flick, Toon pur Ka Super hero.
The Mahurat for the movie to be directed by Kireet Khurana was held on Tuesday. The story consists of real life characters entering a cartoon world and getting caught in a war of the toons.
The movie is produced by Kumar Mangat of Kaal fame. The Muharat clap was given by director Karan Johar. This ended speculation of a cold war between Ajay Devhgan- Kumar Mangat and Karan Johar.
Kireet Khurana, who has over 300 ad films to his credit, makes his directorial debut with Toonpur ka Super Hero.
This movie harks back to a Hollywood blockbuster, “Who Framed Roger Rabbit.’. But Devgan insists that this story is different.
Children are the primary audience. Kajol is inspired by the Children’s cartoon channels on T.V., which she has started enjoying since the birth of her daughter Nysa.
Toonpur Ka Super hero will have voice-overs for cartoon characters by major Hindi actors. Negotiations are still underway for this.

Auszug:
Bollywood's golden couple Ajay Devgan and Kajol gave a rare and heartfelt joint interview to BBC Asian Network last week. Later this week Ajay makes his directorial debut with U, ME AUR HUM, which releases in the UK this Friday 11th April, Kajol appears in it. Speaking on Asian Network's Gagan Grewal show Kajol and Ajay spoke freely about their relationship, why Indian films don't get nominated for Oscars and their forthcoming film.
...
They revealed how the title for their forthcoming film U, ME AUR HUM was actually chosen. Kajol said, 'We couldn't find the right way to title our film.'
Ajay said, 'Its a film's about two people- so it's about you and me, and it's about how we have become a 'we', so we thought about 'you, me and we' and finally that's how U, ME AUR HUM came about. So it was in the middle of conversation that the title popped up...It's an honest, entertaining commercial film, made from the heart. I hope, what everyone will love is the film in its entirety.'
'If at the end of the film a husband holds his wife's hand, or a boyfriend goes and calls his girlfriend, then I'll know Ajay has made a good film' says Kajol. 'I wish Ajay all the love, all the success'.
...
On the key to a successful marriage; 'There's nothing to learn, I think with each person the secret is separate but behind each successful marriage you need to try, not just once a year, but day by day to stay with your partner'.
On whether she misses doing lots of acting Kajol replied, 'Not at all, not at all. Because my life (touch wood) has been pretty complete. I've had a daughter, I plan to have some more children and I have a huge family, so my heart is big...I have Ajay in my life, most important'.
Ajay was equally gushing when talking about Kajol, he said, 'I just want to thank her for just being with me. I think she's made my life with just being with me and just being a part of my life. Thank you so much'
We asked on whether directing his wife was awkward, 'Absolutely not. If you have an actress like Kajol, it's a director's delight, he can make the actor perform or push the scene as much as he wants because he knows there's someone that's going to deliver it'.
Ajay has always been known as a man of few words, to which he replied, 'That's how I am, I am just an introvert person. And I really don't want to force myself to change, I just make an effort.'
Regarding his acting career and doing his own stunts Ajay said, 'I don't think it's a particular genre which I like- I like doing different things, so that I don't get bored of one genre- after two comedies I'll do something else, and after that, then something else... because my father was an action director so I've been trained in stunts- so I could do most of the stunts myself. Since childhood I've been moving around or training with his people so it comes very easily, or maybe it's in the blood!'
